Cher’s best-documented signature home is a lavish Italian Renaissance-inspired estate in Malibu, but accounts of her property history also include a Manhattan penthouse, a Venice Beach home and a Beverly Hills bungalow. The record is a history of reported homes and transactions—not a complete inventory of what she owns or where she lives today.

What homes has Cher owned?

Published accounts describe several homes associated with Cher across different decades. The details below distinguish reported purchases and sales from listings, and keep each property’s figures tied to the outlet that reported them.

Property Reported details Documented outcome or context
Manhattan Silk Building penthouse Architectural Digest describes a 4,500-square-foot penthouse acquired in the 1980s. AD says Cher sold it to Russell Simmons in 1990 for $1.6 million. Architectural Digest
Malibu estate AD describes an Italian Renaissance-inspired home; its account gives 16,000 square feet, six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Realtor.com later describes a 13,200-square-foot, seven-bedroom house on nearly two acres, custom built in 1999. Realtor.com reports listings in 2022 and 2023, followed by delisting in August 2024; it does not report a completed sale. Realtor.com
Venice Beach home The Los Angeles Times described a contemporary three-bedroom home with two and a half bathrooms. The Times reported a March 2013 listing for slightly less than $1.9 million and a public-record purchase price of $1,542,500 about three years earlier. Los Angeles Times
Beverly Hills bungalow AD describes an English Tudor-style bungalow with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. AD reports a $2.145 million purchase and a 2018 sale for about $2.07 million. Architectural Digest

Why the Malibu mansion is the centerpiece

Design and reported dimensions

Architectural Digest’s 2022 retrospective describes the Malibu estate as Italian Renaissance-inspired, with Venice-informed design, marble details, limestone fireplaces, ocean views and an infinity pool. It says Cher shaped the home with designer Ron Wilson and reports an acquisition price of $2.95 million. AD gives the house as 16,000 square feet, with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Those figures are not consistent across later coverage. Realtor.com’s July 22, 2026 account describes a 13,200-square-foot, seven-bedroom house on nearly two acres, custom built in 1999. The reports may reflect different accounts or changes to the property; the available reporting does not reconcile the discrepancy.

Listing history is not a sale record

Realtor.com reports that the Malibu home was listed for $85 million in 2022, reduced to $75 million in May 2023, and delisted in August 2024. The outlet says records continued to associate the property with the purchasing trust. These are reported asking prices and record details, not evidence of a completed sale or proof of current occupancy.

In comments quoted by Realtor.com from Architectural Digest, Cher said, “This house has been one of the greatest passions of my life.” In the same reported listing context, she added, “I have enjoyed every moment of its creation and evolution, but now it’s time to pass this magic on to others.”

An earlier Malibu listing

A separate Los Angeles Times report from August 2001 described a Malibu house Cher had just finished building and had quietly put on the market for $25 million. The Times said she had bought the land seven or eight years earlier. That earlier account should be treated as its own property report rather than automatically combined with later descriptions of the estate.

Other chapters in Cher’s property history

Manhattan: Silk Building penthouse

Architectural Digest says Cher acquired a penthouse in Manhattan’s Silk Building in the 1980s, becoming the building’s first residential owner. Its retrospective describes the 4,500-square-foot unit as retaining personal design choices and reports that she sold it to Russell Simmons in 1990 for $1.6 million.

Venice Beach: a contemporary home

In March 2013, the Los Angeles Times reported that Cher had listed a Venice home for slightly less than $1.9 million. The paper described three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, high ceilings, sliding glass walls, two fireplaces, an outdoor shower, and a roof deck with a barbecue, sink and refrigerator. It reported that public records showed a purchase price of $1,542,500 about three years earlier. The listing is historical; it does not establish present ownership.

Beverly Hills: an English Tudor-style bungalow

Architectural Digest’s retrospective describes a four-bedroom, three-bathroom bungalow with a wraparound porch, koi pond, waterfall and meditation area. It reports a purchase for $2.145 million and a sale in 2018 for about $2.07 million.

What is known about Cher’s homes in Hawaii and “in town”?

In a December 2010 Vanity Fair interview, Cher said she had “an apartment in town—for absolutely no reason—and a house in Hawaii.” The interview establishes what she said at that time, but does not identify the properties or show whether she still owns or occupies them.

Where does Cher live now?

The cited accounts do not establish a complete current property inventory or confirm Cher’s present residence. Realtor.com’s 2026 report discusses records associated with the Malibu property’s purchasing trust after its delisting, but that is not enough to establish who lives there. Older interviews and listing reports likewise cannot answer where she lives today.
