The best apple picker tool depends on your tree’s height and whether you need a complete pole-and-basket kit or an attachment for a pole you already own. For a ready-to-use telescoping picker, the DocaPole DP12FruitPicker01 is a straightforward choice; the EZ Smart system offers more reach and a folding, adjustable head. If you want a supplied 12-foot pole, consider the Corona FP 2312. For an existing compatible pole, Lee Valley’s soft-bag attachment is the option here.

How to choose an apple picker pole with basket
Match reach to the highest fruit
Measure the highest apples you intend to pick, then allow room to stand and maneuver the head. A pole’s length and a maker’s stated working reach are different measures, so compare both rather than treating pole length as the height it can harvest. DocaPole states up to 18-to-20-foot reach for its 5-to-12-foot telescoping system, while EZ Smart states 1-to-21-foot reach for its 16-foot system. Corona lists a 12-foot pole without a separate working-reach figure. DocaPole EZ Smart Corona
Prioritize cushioning for ripe fruit
Apples can bruise when they strike a hard basket or one another. Foam cushions, padded inserts, and soft bags are the most direct product features for reducing impact. The DocaPole, EZ Smart, and Corona baskets have cushioning; Lee Valley uses a soft cotton bag. These features can help, but they do not guarantee bruise-free fruit: pick gently and avoid dropping apples into a full basket. DocaPole EZ Smart Corona Lee Valley
Check pole compatibility before buying an attachment
A picker head only works with a pole it can mount to securely. EZ Smart specifies standard 3/4-inch Acme threading. Lee Valley’s HK300 pressure-fits a pole 24 to 30 mm in diameter, and a threaded pole may need an adapter. If you do not already have a compatible pole, compare the total setup—not just the attachment—against a complete kit. EZ Smart Lee Valley

Using a fruit picker for high branches
- Check the pole connection and basket before lifting the tool. Confirm that an attachment is fitted to a compatible pole.
- Position the basket around one apple at a time, using the pole and picker head to reach the fruit without climbing.
- Work the apple gently into the basket rather than pulling hard on the branch or letting fruit fall from height.
- Lower the pole under control and remove the apples carefully so they do not strike the basket or each other.
A pole-mounted picker is designed to let you harvest from the ground, but it is not a substitute for safe access planning around unstable ground, overhead wires, or branches beyond your control.
