Garden City Community College says it will receive $3.75 million over 30 years—$125,000 annually—under a conditional education-funding agreement tied to the proposed Home Range Clean Power Project. The college says the money will support scholarships, faculty, equipment and training, and naming rights for its Electrical Shop. The agreement is with Sherlock Solar LLC, part of Triple Oak Power’s project.

How much funding did GCCC announce?

In an October 6, 2026 announcement, Garden City Community College (GCCC) described a $3.75 million commitment over the project’s 30-year life, paid at $125,000 per year. Those terms come from the college’s release; it does not describe the full funding stream as unconditional or already paid. GCCC’s announcement

What will the funding support?

Scholarships

GCCC says $25,000 per year will go to scholarships, with preference for students from Finney and Kearny Counties. The release does not specify the number of scholarships or individual award amounts.

Faculty, equipment and training

The partnership also includes support for a faculty position and investment in equipment and training for the college’s construction and electrical technology programs.

Electrical Shop naming rights

The agreement includes naming rights for the Electrical Shop in the Security State Bank Construction Trades Center. GCCC describes the center as 11,350 square feet of instructional and hands-on training space, with shop areas, classrooms, faculty offices, and tool and material storage. Is the funding guaranteed if the solar project does not proceed?

No. GCCC says the support depends on the proposed Home Range Clean Power Project proceeding. The announcement identifies Sherlock Solar LLC as the agreement counterparty and describes it as part of Triple Oak Power’s larger project. It characterizes Home Range as a proposed energy and data center project in Finney and Kearny counties. Sherlock Solar received a Special Use Permit in June 2026, and construction was expected to begin in 2027, according to the October 2026 release. The permit and expected start date do not mean construction has begun or that the 30-year funding is unconditional. GCCC’s announcement

How does the partnership connect to GCCC’s programs?

The Construction Technology and Electrical Technology programs offer stackable, industry-aligned credentials, according to GCCC’s June 2026 description of the Construction Trades Center. The Kansas Board of Regents’ May 2025 committee materials said the electrical program was planned for 15–20 students per year and prepared students for the OSHA 10 exam and Journeyman Electrician exam; the latter requires on-the-job training experience. Those are program-plan details from 2025, not guaranteed current enrollment or outcomes, so prospective students should confirm current requirements with GCCC. GCCC’s Electrical Technology page separately describes Empirical Foods’ “Fully Connected Program,” which sponsors up to 10 students per year. That is a separate program, not part of the Triple Oak Power agreement. GCCC Electrical Technology
