Brazil’s official trade figures do not confirm an 11% September 2026 decline in lumber exports. The available official data show that Brazil’s total exports increased year over year, while a separate raw-wood category also recorded higher export value and volume. Raw wood is not lumber, so those figures cannot substantiate the lumber claim.
Is the 11% lumber-export decline confirmed?
No. The figures available from Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) do not establish an 11% contraction in September lumber exports. The −11.3% figure appearing in a broad trade-category table is labeled “BC,” not lumber; it cannot be attributed to lumber without a product definition and supporting series. MDIC consolidated trade statistics were updated on 6 October 2026 and list September 2026 as the latest available month.
The claim also lacks key context: it does not specify whether the change concerns export value or physical volume, whether it compares September with the same month of 2025 or with August 2026, or which product code defines lumber. Without those details, the 11% figure should not be presented as an established lumber result.
What do the September 2026 figures show?
Brazil’s total exports
Brazil exported US$34.42 billion in goods in September 2026, 12.9% more than in September 2025. For January through September 2026, exports totaled US$284.65 billion, up 10.4% year over year, according to MDIC’s monthly trade-balance totals. These economy-wide figures provide context but do not identify lumber’s performance.

Raw wood, a separate category
MDIC reported September 2026 raw-wood exports worth US$10.0 million, with 66.4 thousand tonnes shipped and an average price of US$150.9 per tonne. Compared with September 2025, raw-wood export value increased 1.6% and volume rose 30.0%, while the average unit price fell 21.9%, according to the MDIC raw-wood figures. These are raw-wood results, not lumber results.
Why raw wood cannot answer the lumber question
Raw wood and lumber are distinct product categories in trade reporting. A change in one category does not establish a change in the other. Brazil’s Forest Service says its forest-product foreign-trade statistics are derived from Comex Stat and organized using an SFB classification based on NCM product codes. Its published coverage, updated 23 February 2026, runs through December 2025, so it does not verify a September 2026 lumber result. See the Forest Service explanation of its forest-product trade data.
