Autodesk named Diana Colella executive vice president of its architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) business on October 6, 2026, succeeding Amy Bunszel. The company says Colella will advance its Forma strategy and connect Forma more closely with desktop tools such as Revit and Civil 3D, with project data and context intended to make AI more useful in everyday AEC work. The announcement describes Autodesk’s goals, not measured customer results.

What Autodesk announced

Colella is taking over leadership of Autodesk’s AEC business from Amy Bunszel. Autodesk says Bunszel will remain with the company through November 2, 2026, to support the transition. The change was announced by Autodesk on October 6, 2026, in its leadership announcement.

Colella will also continue overseeing Autodesk’s Media & Entertainment business while the company searches for a new leader for that division. Autodesk says the incoming leader will report directly to Colella.

What her AEC remit means for Forma, Revit and Civil 3D

Autodesk says Colella’s priorities include advancing the Autodesk Forma strategy and continuing to evolve desktop products such as Revit and Civil 3D, while connecting those products more closely to Forma workflows. The strategic emphasis is on bringing project data and context together across the work rather than treating AI as a separate feature in isolation.

Autodesk says that joined-up context is intended to make AI more useful in customers’ daily work, reduce friction, support better-informed decisions and increase teams’ capacity to design and build. These are the company’s intended benefits; the October 6 announcement does not report quantified customer improvements or measured performance results.

How the appointment fits Autodesk’s AI plans

On September 15, 2026, Autodesk said it had previewed agentic AI across Autodesk Forma for AEC, Fusion for design and manufacturing, and Flow for Media & Entertainment at Autodesk University 2026. It also said Autodesk Assistant was generally available across many products, including Forma. That announcement provides context for Colella’s assignment, but it does not establish that every AI capability is deployed in every product or customer workflow. See Autodesk’s September AI announcement.

Colella’s experience at Autodesk

Autodesk describes Colella as having nearly three decades of leadership experience at the company across finance, strategy, sales, operations, product management and industry leadership. She joined Autodesk through its acquisition of Discreet Logic, led the AutoCAD business and helped launch One AutoCAD.

Most recently, she led the AI transformation of Autodesk’s Media & Entertainment business, advanced the Flow platform strategy and expanded Autodesk’s role across the production lifecycle. Her experience in another Autodesk industry business makes the appointment notable, but it does not by itself demonstrate how the AEC strategy will perform.

What construction and design teams can—and cannot—take from the news

For firms using Autodesk products, the clearest signal is strategic: Autodesk intends to connect Forma more closely with established desktop workflows and use shared project data and context to support AI. Whether that translates into practical improvements will depend on how those integrations are delivered and adopted.

The announcement does not specify a delivery schedule, list particular new Revit or Civil 3D integrations, or provide customer outcome data. Colella described her own priority as listening to customers and translating work across Forma and AI into meaningful improvements to how projects are designed, built and operated. That is a stated goal, not a report of results already achieved.
