Bangalore Mirror reported on Oct. 7, 2026, that water had receded by Tuesday, Oct. 6, but movement improved only marginally. The continuing queue points to more than a temporary flood: roadworks, poor drainage, damaged roadside sections and heavy vehicle movement were also reported as factors.
Why is there traffic at Chandapura junction?
The reported bottleneck is the Old Chandapura Railway Bridge stretch, on the NH-44 connection between Chandapura, Bommasandra and Attibele. Bangalore Mirror’s Oct. 7 report attributed the disruption to several conditions acting together: heavy rain caused waterlogging, while widening and underpass-related work occupied road space. The report also cited poor drainage, heavy vehicles and highway edges dug up without proper restoration. Bangalore Mirror’s report says several pedestrians reportedly fell while attempting to cross the flooded stretch on Monday night; it does not give a verified count.
By Oct. 6, the water had receded, yet congestion remained over long stretches and traffic improved only marginally. That chronology matters: flooding aggravated the jam, but the report does not identify rainwater as the sole cause of the continuing delay.
How the contributing conditions interact
- Rain and waterlogging: Flooded sections impede vehicle movement and make crossing difficult for pedestrians.
- Construction: Widening and underpass-related work reduces the space available to traffic when lanes or edges are occupied.
- Drainage and road edges: Poor drainage leaves water on the highway, while dug-up or unrestored roadside sections further constrain movement.
- Traffic load: Heavy vehicles add to the pressure on a restricted stretch that serves through traffic between Bengaluru and Hosur.
How bad is the traffic from Chandapura to Bommasandra and Attibele?
The Oct. 7 report describes congestion over long stretches but does not provide an independently measured Oct. 6–7 journey time, queue length or live traffic count. It quotes Rajajinagar MLA S Suresh Kumar describing his own return journey: “While returning to Bengaluru, we were stuck near Chandapura on Hosur Road for nearly 50 minutes without moving even an inch. We were told that there was a traffic jam extending for around 2 km ahead of us.” Those figures are his account of one trip and what he was told, not a measured estimate for all journeys or for the current queue.

Anekal MLA B Shivanna called for the contractor and engineer to carry out the work systematically, saying the highway’s importance appeared to have been overlooked. The report describes the stretch as linking the Golden Quadrilateral with the North–South Corridor and carrying significant Bengaluru–Hosur traffic; it does not provide a current official traffic volume for the junction. What is happening near the Old Chandapura Railway Bridge?
NHAI project records show that construction in this area sits within a broader programme of grade-separator and service-road works along NH-44. The agency’s list of projects awarded as of March 1, 2025, includes a four-lane vehicular overpass at Old Chandapura, at chainage 25+180, as part of a package running from Silk Board Junction to the Karnataka–Tamil Nadu border. It names Dhariwal Buildtech Limited as the EPC contractor for that award. The award record establishes the planned project scope, not whether the overpass or other works were complete by October 2026. NHAI project award list

An earlier NHAI request for proposals, dated Nov. 11, 2021, lists railway underbridge RUB-470, a box culvert, service road and bus bays at Old Chandapura among remedial works for accident-prone locations between Silk Board Junction and Attibele. That document records a proposed package; it does not establish that every component was built or that it is identical to the work now affecting traffic. NHAI request for proposals
Earlier reports describe plans, not verified October traffic arrangements
In March 2026, The Times of India reported that NHAI planned three-lane service-road diversions during grade-separator construction at four NH-44 junctions. At the time, work was underway at Chandapura, Guddahatti Gate and Guestline Circle, while work had yet to start at Veerasandra. The report said the corridor carried over 1.2 lakh passenger car units daily and that nearly 7 km of service roads were to be developed by widening existing two-lane roads. These are figures and status details published in March, not a fresh October count or confirmation that those diversions remain in place. The Times of India’s March 2026 report

The same report said an NHAI official expected traffic to use widened service roads during excavation and said geotechnical experts would supervise work, with retaining walls intended to prevent soil collapse. A February 2026 report by The New Indian Express separately described plans to widen and resurface the left-side service road and divert Hosur-bound traffic within five days. The reviewed accounts do not establish whether those plans were completed or remain active. The Times of India; The New Indian Express
How should the earlier soil-collapse incident be described?
Reports in February 2026 used different headline wording for an incident during construction near Chandapura. The Times of India initially described a roughly 100-metre road-section collapse and reported an NHAI official’s account that excavation, heavy traffic, trucks and vibration had loosened soil. - Ready for the Sun & Cold Weather - The road cones stay bright and dependable through sun exposure and low temperatures, maintaining performance across seasons for long-term use on campuses or properties.
- Stackable, 28-Inch Tall Cones - The traffic safety cones create clear boundaries fast; they're stackable construction cones that nest together for compact storage - easy to transport and store.
The New Indian Express later reported NHAI’s clarification: the event was a localised soil collapse during excavation about 7.7 metres deep for retaining-wall construction, which reduced carriageway width; NHAI said it was not a road cave-in. The distinction should be attributed to the authority, rather than presented as an independently established description. The Express also reported advice on temporary supports, staged work, barricading, signage and lighting. The New Indian Express’s account

The available reporting establishes a continuing bottleneck after the water receded, but it does not supply live lane-by-lane conditions, current queue duration, water depth, rainfall totals, or an October construction-completion percentage. Because project plans and diversions cited in earlier reports are historical, they should not be treated as confirmation of today’s route arrangement. For a trip, check a current navigation or traffic service before setting out; allow extra time if travelling through the bridge stretch, and use marked pedestrian crossings rather than attempting to cross flooded or active work areas.
