A cement-truck driver told investigators he was looking for a wallet that had fallen onto the floorboard before realizing his truck had crossed the center line, according to an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) crash-report account relayed by FOX10/WALA on Oct. 6, 2026. The Sept. 2 crash on Kushla McLeod Road in Mobile County killed 21-year-old Jeriah C. Roberts, the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro.
What FOX10/WALA says the crash report describes
FOX10/WALA reported that the cement-truck driver told investigators he became distracted while looking for a wallet that had fallen onto the floorboard. When he looked up, he saw that the truck had crossed the center line. The account is attributed to ALEA’s crash report; the underlying report itself was not available in the outlet’s coverage. Read FOX10/WALA’s Oct. 6 report.
According to that report, the truck was traveling westbound on Kushla McLeod Road. The Camaro driver also swerved right and left the roadway. The cement truck overturned onto the car and came to rest in a ditch. The Camaro caught fire while Roberts was still inside, and ALEA said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
When and where the collision happened
The crash occurred Sept. 2, 2026, on Kushla McLeod Road near U.S. 45 in Mobile County. Earlier FOX10/WALA coverage identified the vehicles as a 2023 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2023 Mack concrete mixer. It named Roberts, 21, of Eight Mile, as the Camaro driver and Garrick D. Johnson, 55, of Prichard, as the truck driver. Roberts died at the scene; Johnson was injured and taken to a Mobile hospital. The Oct. 6 report says Bay Concrete owned the mixer. FOX10/WALA’s earlier report includes the initial crash details.

What is—and is not—established about fault and the case
The distraction account is FOX10/WALA’s paraphrase of what ALEA’s crash report says. It should not be confused with an independently reviewed copy of that report or a court’s determination of fault. The coverage cited here does not establish that a court has ruled on responsibility for the collision.
FOX10/WALA reported on Sept. 4 that Roberts’ parents had retained Greene & Phillips to investigate and pursue a wrongful-death lawsuit, and that no suit had been filed as of that report. A Sept. 7 story later referred to a wrongful-death lawsuit and quoted attorney David Greene describing the father’s account. These reports do not establish the case’s current court status as of Oct. 7, 2026.
