The fatal assault took place at Amoy Gardens in Kowloon Bay on September 19, 2023, after a dispute over smoking while the men waited for a lift.
Who was sentenced, and who was killed?
The South China Morning Post identified Tam Yun-chiu as a 52-year-old construction worker and Ho Lok-man as a 48-year-old bus driver. The newspaper reported that a High Court jury found Tam guilty of murdering Ho and that he received a life sentence.
What happened at Amoy Gardens?
The report placed the incident on the podium floor of Amoy Gardens, a private housing estate in Kowloon Bay, on September 19, 2023. It said the dispute began while Tam and Ho were waiting for a lift, after Ho reprimanded Tam for smoking.
According to the report, security-camera footage showed Tam following Ho after they left the lift, pushing him against a railing, and repeatedly kicking his head after he fell. The jury also heard that Tam repeatedly punched Ho in the face and knocked him to the ground. The newspaper did not reproduce the footage or provide a transcript of the evidence.

What is known about the case’s legal status?
The South China Morning Post’s October 6, 2026 report is the available account of the jury’s verdict and life sentence. It does not provide the court’s judgment or sentencing remarks, or report whether an appeal has been filed. It also does not state the cause of death or give further personal background on either man.
