Bouygues Construction officially opened Scale One on 6 October 2026 in Chilly-Mazarin, south of Paris. The 2,500 m² facility is designed to let construction-sector participants test materials, equipment, methods and technologies in realistic, full-scale site conditions before potential use on projects.
What Scale One is and who can use it
Scale One is a testing and collaboration facility at Bouygues Construction Matériel’s technical centre in Chilly-Mazarin, which the company describes as about 30 minutes from Paris. That is Bouygues Construction’s approximate distance description, not a guaranteed travel time.
Bouygues says the platform is open to construction-industry stakeholders. Its experimentation page describes use by internal teams and external partners, including manufacturers, architects and start-ups. Support can include innovation consulting, prototyping assistance, ergonomic evaluation and access to testing infrastructure.
The project was announced in May 2024 after it was selected through the French government and Île-de-France Region’s “Grands Lieux d’Innovation Filières France 2030” call for projects. The initial announcement anticipated an opening in early 2025; the company’s later inauguration announcement records the official opening on 6 October 2026.

What the facility contains
The spaces are intended to support different kinds of construction trials rather than reproduce every project or site condition.
- Two simulated site zones: one for new-build work and one for renovation.
- FabLab: for rapid prototyping of construction-site accessories.
- Concrete 3D-printing facility: for trials involving concrete additive manufacturing.
- Robotics training area: for practical work with construction robotics.
- Flexible reception and coworking area: for collaboration and working sessions.
Bouygues Construction says full-scale trials can support earlier reliability assessment, feedback from site managers and workers, and the collection of trial data. These are stated capabilities and goals; the company’s announcements do not report independent evaluations or quantified facility-wide results.

Examples Bouygues says are being trialled
The inauguration announcement lists the following examples as undergoing trials at Scale One. The intended benefits below describe their stated purpose, not independently confirmed results.
- Akhantas: an AI-based solution intended to improve waste management.
- Concrete 3D printer: intended to optimise the amount of concrete needed for structures. The inauguration announcement does not name its supplier.
- Construction with voids: a method intended to reduce the amount of material used.
- B-Slicer: a structural-works procedure for EPR nuclear power plants that uses prefabricated concrete walls to facilitate assembly.
- Roby2: a drilling robot intended to reduce workers’ physical strain and musculoskeletal-disorder risk while improving work quality.
- STACK by Woodoo: an augmented-wood structural solution developed with Bouygues Construction. The inauguration release attributes to Bouygues Construction and Woodoo the claims that it rivals reinforced concrete and steel in mechanical strength and has a lower carbon footprint. A later Bouygues update says Woodoo has priority access to Scale One while an ATEx technical evaluation is underway.
- Saint-Gobain building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) cladding: solar modules integrated into a building’s outer skin to generate electricity. Bouygues later described cooperation with Saint-Gobain connected to Scale One.
The announcements identify these as trials, not as commercially deployed systems. They do not establish measured material savings, emissions reductions, safety improvements or other performance outcomes.

What Bouygues says the platform is meant to achieve
Bouygues Construction presents Scale One as a way to move construction innovations from development toward potential field use by trying them in realistic conditions and gathering feedback earlier. At the inauguration, CEO Pierre-Éric Saint-André said the company’s ambition is to reduce the time between an idea and its effective implementation in the field. That is a statement of purpose, not evidence that the facility has already shortened development timelines.
Partnerships described by Bouygues include cooperation with Saint-Gobain to test solutions in real conditions and with École nationale des ponts et chaussées to develop structural systems intended to reduce material consumption.

What is—and is not—established so far
The inauguration establishes that Scale One opened and provides a description of its area, spaces, services and examples of work under trial. The company’s published material does not give a total construction or operating budget, a funding breakdown, independent trial evaluations or quantified results for the platform. Claims about intended benefits should therefore be read as aims or trial purposes, not proven outcomes.
