China Construction Bank’s official 2025 half-year disclosure reports RMB1,832,350 million in risk-weighted assets (RWA) for individual residential mortgages under its advanced internal ratings-based approach. The official materials reviewed do not verify a 257% increase: they do not identify the comparison period, starting figure or calculation behind that claim. The bank’s separately reported 8.3% year-over-year rise is for total bank RWA, not mortgages.

What CCB reports for mortgage RWAs

China Construction Bank’s 2025 Half-Year Pillar III Report gives the individual residential mortgage subtotal under the A-IRB approach as RMB1,832,350 million of RWA at June 30, 2025. The table’s unit is millions of RMB. The same subtotal lists RMB6,158,388 million in exposure at default. Those are different measures: exposure at default is not mortgage RWA, loan originations, or mortgage revenue. CCB 2025 Half-Year Pillar III Report.

RWA is a regulatory capital measure. It reflects exposures after the applicable risk-weighting treatment; it is not the face value of the mortgage book. CCB’s report presents mortgage exposure within a Pillar III credit-risk table alongside exposure at default, RWA and risk weight.

Can the reported 257% increase be verified?

Not from the official disclosures reviewed. The 2025 half-year report establishes a mortgage RWA figure at June 30, 2025, but does not supply the comparison period, baseline or calculation needed to substantiate a 257% increase in that category. The percentage could refer to a different period, narrower category or another measure, but the available disclosure does not establish which.

CCB does report total bank RWA of RMB23,483,601 million at June 30, 2025, versus RMB21,690,492 million at June 30, 2024—an increase of approximately 8.3%. That comparison is for total bank RWA, not mortgage RWA, and cannot be used as evidence for the 257% claim. CCB 2025 Half-Year Pillar III Report.

Why the reporting method matters

CCB’s 2024 Capital Management Pillar III Annual Report says the bank’s approved retail advanced internal ratings-based approach covers individual residential mortgage exposures. It also reports that RWA covered by the internal ratings-based approach accounted for 70.05% of total RWA. CCB Capital Management Pillar III Annual Report 2024.

For a meaningful change calculation, compare the same mortgage category across the same reporting dates and confirm that the unit, currency, regulatory treatment and scope are consistent. A change in RWA is not automatically a change of the same size in the loan balance: RWA is shaped by both exposures and the method used to calculate their regulatory risk treatment.

What this says—and does not say—about CCB stock

The mortgage RWA subtotal alone does not establish deteriorating mortgage credit quality or predict CCB’s share-price performance. Interpreting a listed bank requires looking at comparable disclosures for capital ratios, asset quality, mortgage exposure, earnings and valuation; the RWA figure is one regulatory measure, not a standalone stock signal.
