Edinburgh-headquartered Thomson Gray has been named a finalist in three categories across two 2026 UK award programmes: one at the UK Building Awards and two at the SME National Business Awards.
Which awards has Thomson Gray been shortlisted for?
The consultancy’s three finalist places are spread across two national programmes. The category titles distinguish recognition for consultancy work from awards focused on business size and apprenticeship employment.
| Award programme | Finalist category | What the category covers |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 UK Building Awards | Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year (fewer than 100 staff) | Construction consultancy or surveying; the staff threshold is part of the category name, not a verified Thomson Gray headcount. Building finalist list |
| SME National Business Awards 2026 | Business of the Year (More than 50 Employees) | Business award category; the employee threshold is part of the category name, not a verified Thomson Gray headcount. SME National Business Awards finalist list |
| SME National Business Awards 2026 | Apprentice Employer of the Year | Recognition for apprenticeship employment. SME National Business Awards finalist list |
What does the Scottish shortlist claim mean?
Project Scotland reported that Thomson Gray was the only Scottish-headquartered consultancy among finalists in the UK Building Awards’ Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year category. It also described the firm as the only Scottish company represented on the SME National Business Awards shortlist. Those claims apply to the specific category and shortlist, respectively; they do not establish that Thomson Gray was the only Scottish finalist across all award categories. How Thomson Gray described the nominations
Managing director Stuart Gray said the three shortlists were “a fantastic endorsement of the work being done right across Thomson Gray.” He said the nominations recognised “two sides of the business that go hand in hand: the quality of the work we deliver for our clients and the time we invest in our people.” Project Scotland’s report linked the apprenticeship nomination to the company’s stated focus on developing people and supporting long-term careers in the industry. This is the company’s framing of the recognition, not independently measured evidence of performance. Project Scotland

Shortlisted does not mean a winner
The company announced the three nominations on 11 September 2026, and Project Scotland reported them on 6 October. That report said the award winners would be announced at London ceremonies the following month. It establishes finalist status, not a subsequent award result.
