Which Route 208 construction project is affecting Fair Lawn?
The work is the replacement of the CR 507 (Maple Avenue) bridge over Route 208, affecting Fair Lawn and Glen Rock. It is not the separate Route 4/208 interchange project, which NJDOT lists as completed. NJDOT’s Route 4/208 interchange project page describes that distinct project.
The bridge work includes replacing the deck and superstructure, reconstructing bridge approaches, improving vertical clearance, and upgrading sidewalks, curb ramps, drainage, and roadside protection. The September 2026 traffic notice also mentions lighting, signage, and fencing improvements. NJDOT’s award listing names Joseph M. Sanzari, Inc. as contractor and records an award of $10,385,375 dated August 29, 2025. The later advisory describes the project as $10.4 million and federally funded. How long is the traffic pattern expected to last?
The September 2026 advisory said the described Route 208 lane pattern was expected to stay in place through the end of 2026. After overnight work, Route 208 traffic was to be restored with lanes shifted to the right, using the shoulder and/or acceleration and deceleration lanes as travel lanes. The advisory also noted stop signs at the ramp from northbound Maple Avenue to northbound Route 208 and at the Elm Avenue ramp to southbound Route 208. These details describe the dated advisory; check current conditions before traveling.

When is the whole bridge project expected to finish?
The same September 2026 advisory estimated overall construction completion in fall 2028 and cautioned that timing could change because of weather or other factors. That is later than NJDOT’s October 2024 public information notice, which had anticipated completion in summer 2027. Are there detours, and what route should drivers use?
The 2024 NJDOT notice described staged construction: traffic was to be maintained during Stage 1, with southbound Maple Avenue detoured during Stage 2. Its proposed passenger-vehicle route used Route 208, De Boer Drive, Harristown Road, and Elm Avenue; the proposed truck route used Route 208, Goffle Road, and Elm Avenue. These were plans in the 2024 notice, not confirmation that either detour is active now. Follow posted signs and consult live traffic information rather than relying on the old route plan.

Where can you check current traffic and delays?
Use NJDOT’s 511NJ traffic information service for current conditions and closures. The project advisory describes scheduled work and expected traffic arrangements, but it does not establish a typical delay in minutes, so there is no reliable number of added travel minutes to quote.
