Easthampton’s new all-wheels skatepark is under construction at Millside Park, with completion expected in spring 2027. The city’s project deadline is June 30, 2027, but winter weather could affect when crews can pour concrete. No specific public opening date has been announced.
Where is the skatepark, and what is its status?
The project is at Millside Park in Easthampton, Massachusetts. The city said construction could begin as early as September 15, 2026; a report published October 6 confirmed work was underway. The approximately 6,000-square-foot facility is planned as a free public space for wheeled sports. When is it expected to be finished?
Spring 2027 is the current expected completion period, while June 30, 2027 is the stated project deadline. These are targets, not a confirmed public opening day. Easthampton Skatepark Initiative member Jeff Burke said the severity of winter weather will affect when concrete work can proceed. The city’s September 14, 2026 announcement set out the deadline; the October report from The Reminder updated the status to construction underway and reported the spring target.
Who is the park designed for?
The “all-wheels” plan encompasses skateboarding, BMX, scooters, rollerblading and other wheeled sports—not skateboards alone. The initiative describes the park as a free opportunity for youth and residents of all ages. Its stated focus includes ages 10–17, but that is a target audience, not a reported age restriction. Proposed Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations have been noted, but specific features and specifications have not been published.

“We want BMXers there. Someone riding a scooter or rollerblades should be using these parks as well,” Burke told The Reminder, describing the aim of bringing different user groups into one park. The Easthampton Skatepark Initiative outlines the project’s mission.
How is the project funded?
The project is reported to have a total cost of $750,000. Its funding is described as a $425,000 state PARC grant, $250,000 in City Community Preservation Act funds, and an initiative fundraising component originally listed at $75,000.

By October 2026, the initiative had raised nearly $88,000, according to The Reminder. The city said additional donations could support contingency, maintenance, or lighting if the amount raised was significant; the available project updates do not establish how funds above the original $75,000 component will be allocated. The city project page reported the grant and CPA funding in its 2025 update.

Easthampton previously had the David W. MacDonald Memorial Skatepark, which the initiative says opened in 1997 and was removed in 2004. A skatepark appeared in Millside Park plans in 2005, but the park was completed in 2008 without one. Residents renewed the effort in 2019, and the Parks and Recreation Commission approved Millside Park as the location in 2024.

Mayor Salem Derby, a former skater, said moving the project forward fulfills a promise to Easthampton’s skateboarding community and to the family of David MacDonald. The initiative’s project history recounts the earlier park and renewed campaign.
