Chron described a multilevel parking structure and a cooking school that would also function as a community room. These are reported elements of the proposal; the available information does not establish whether the final construction scope has changed since the zoning approval.
How the project reached this point
The site has been under discussion for years. The Shelby Report said Central Market unveiled preliminary drawings for a standalone store in November 2024, after a mixed-use high-rise concept was put on hold in 2023 amid a softer commercial real-estate market. The reported April 2026 zoning approval and October 2026 filing schedule mark successive planning milestones, but neither confirms that construction has begun. In April, H-E-B/Central Market managing director of public affairs Mabrie Jackson told Chron: “For years, Uptown residents have expressed their desire for a Central Market designed to serve their growing neighborhood.
