A Samsung washerโs 5C error means it is not draining properly; some models display the same drainage alert as 5E. Check the drain hose first, then clean the debris filter if your model has an accessible one. If the washer still will not drain, stop and contact Samsung Support or a qualified appliance technician rather than replacing parts based on the code alone.
What does the 5C code mean?
Samsung describes 5C and 5E as drainage errors: water is not draining as it should. Typical causes to check include a kinked or blocked drain hose, a clogged debris filter, freezing, or incorrect hose installation. The code by itself does not identify a failed pump or electrical component.
Access panels, filter locations, and installation details differ among models and regions. Check your washerโs manual before removing parts; Samsungโs UK 5C/5E troubleshooting guidance and Saudi Arabia troubleshooting guide both advise that procedures can vary.
1. Inspect the drain hose and its connection
Look behind the washer for a folded, kinked, crushed, blocked, or frozen drain hose. Confirm that it is securely connected and routed as required for your installation. Do not pull a heavy or built-in washer out of place if you cannot move it safely.

- โโใDIY INSTALLATIONใโถDisconnect the power before installing this part. The installation needs to use Phillips head screw driver and channel locks. You can find the repair video on YouTube and follow it to install DC31-00054D Drain Pump, as there were plenty of do it yourself videos on there that helped guide you on the repair. Remove the plastic cover of the pump filter, then remove the 2 screws at the back. Remove the hose from the drain pump assembly and pull it out from the bottom of the washer (be careful not to cut the wire). Easy to install ,just remember which connector plugs in to which terminal
If the hose connects to a spigot
Check that the installation blanking cap was removed from the spigot, and that the drain hose and clamp are secure and not kinked. A cap left in place can obstruct drainage.
If the hose drains into a standpipe
Samsung UK specifies that the drain hose should be at least 60 cm above the floor and inserted no more than 150 mm into the standpipe. Secure the hose and keep it unkinked. These measurements are Samsung UK guidance, not universal dimensions for every installation; follow your model manual if its instructions differ.

2. Clean the debris filter if your model has an accessible one
Many front-load Samsung washers have a debris-filter access door, but not every model has the same access or procedure. Consult your manual before opening the panel. Prepare towels and a shallow dish: residual water can spill from the emergency drain hose and filter area.
- Locate the debris-filter access door and place towels and a shallow dish beneath it.
- Open the door, pull out the emergency drain hose, remove its cap, and drain the remaining water into the dish. Re-cap and secure the hose when the water has stopped flowing.
- Turn the drain filter counterclockwise and remove it. Clear debris, rinse the filter with warm water, and wipe the filter recess.
- Refit the filter and turn it clockwise until it is securely locked. Close the access door.
Samsung UK advises cleaning front-loader debris filters five or six times a year to help prevent clogging; this is manufacturer maintenance guidance, not a guarantee that a filter is the cause of a particular error.

3. Clear the drain hose only if the checks above do not resolve the problem
If you are comfortable disconnecting the hose and your manual permits it, first switch the washer off at the mains and unplug it. Remove laundry, disconnect the drain hose, and check for a blockage. A screwdriver or wrench may be needed to loosen a hose clamp, but this depends on the installation. Reconnect the hose securely before testing the washer. If the machine is difficult to access or you are unsure how to detach the hose, leave this step to a technician.

After reassembling anything you opened, run a suitable drain or rinse-and-spin cycle according to your manual. If the washer drains normally and the code clears, the obstruction or installation issue may have been resolved. If the 5C/5E error remains or water still will not drain after the hose and accessible filter checks, contact Samsung Repair or Support, or arrange service with a qualified appliance technician. The code alone is not enough to diagnose which internal part, if any, needs repair.

Pulled off the plastic cover for the PX3516-01 drain pump filter and then the 2 screws behind that. Removed the hoses on the drain pump assembly and pulled it out the bottom of the washer, being careful to not cut the wires (taped the sharp edges of the washer metal).
