For an indoor home bar, Liquor.com recommends the double-walled Crafthouse by Fortessa; for a UK-tested retention result, Testix reports that the Viners Double Walled Ice Bucket 1.5L retained 88% of its ice after three hours at 21°C. These are recommendations and test results from those publishers, not hands-on testing by Bettesworth Construction.
How to choose an ice bucket
Start with the job, then compare insulation, capacity, bottle fit, handling, and the features that make serving easier. A bucket for loose cocktail ice does not need the same shape as one meant to surround a wine bottle, and an outdoor gathering may call for more volume and portability than a compact home bar.
- For longer service: prioritize double-wall insulation. A basic uninsulated bucket can work for brief service if you can replenish the ice.
- For bottle chilling: check that the bucket is wide and deep enough to surround the bottle with cooling cubes.
- For outdoor use: consider portability, a stable or non-slip base, and a lid that helps protect the contents.
- For easier serving: look for a scoop or tongs, a drain grate or meltwater reservoir, and a design that is straightforward to clean.
Liquor.com’s guide says capacity should at minimum hold enough ice for a refill, or be large enough to surround a wine bottle with cooling cubes. SeongHa Lee, a Las Vegas bartender quoted by Liquor.com, called the Crafthouse by Fortessa oval bucket “the best for indoor use.” That is his recommendation, not a universal ranking.
Eight ice buckets and what each is suited to
The available sources give detailed product evidence for five models, plus a separate UK comparison result for Viners and a designer option from Christofle. They do not provide enough model-specific information to responsibly identify or compare eight tested products; the selections below reflect the documented use cases rather than an invented eight-item ranking.

Crafthouse by Fortessa Stainless Steel Ice Bucket: best documented home-bar fit
Liquor.com’s guide, updated April 17, 2024, names this its best overall. It describes a double-walled stainless-steel body, a built-in drain board, an included scoop, and a lid that clips onto the bucket when open. The listed capacity is 2 quarts and the dimensions are 12.5 × 5.5 × 8.25 inches. Liquor.com says the oval shape can fit a six-pack or two bottles side by side. The guide also notes an unwieldy handle and high cost, so its useful footprint comes with handling and price trade-offs.
Polder Chill Station: portable outdoor service
Liquor.com describes the Polder Chill Station as portable and durable, with double-wall insulation, a non-slip base, a stainless-steel bottle sleeve, and a see-through lid. Its listed capacity is 3.3 quarts. The removable lids and plastic scoop may be misplaced, according to the guide.

Winco 4-Quart Wine Bucket: simple bottle chilling

YETI Tank 45: large outdoor gatherings
Liquor.com identifies the Tank 45 as a large outdoor option. The guide describes rotomolded construction and pressure-injected polyurethane foam insulation, and quotes bartender SeongHa Lee on its capacity and outdoor performance. That assessment is Lee’s opinion as reported by Liquor.com; the source does not provide a measured ice-retention result for this model.
Viners Double Walled Ice Bucket 1.5L: reported UK retention result
UK publisher Testix reports that this model retained 88% of its ice after three hours in its test at 21°C and remained condensation-free in that comparison. Testix separately describes the bucket as keeping ice solid for over five hours at a summer garden party at 23°C; that is a distinct condition and result, not an extension of the three-hour test. The 88% figure is Testix’s 2026 result, not a Bettesworth Construction test.

One more model? What the available comparisons establish
Liquor.com presents a guide titled “The 8 Best Ice Buckets,” and Testix says it compared eight models in the UK. The product-specific evidence available here does not identify all eight models or provide comparable specifications for them. Rather than fill the list with unsupported names or claims, use the documented options above to match a bucket to the intended job.

What the reported testing tells you—and what it does not
Testix says it assessed eight ice buckets in kitchen and garden settings. Its reported method used one litre of ice in each bucket for three hours at 21°C, weighed the ice remaining, and checked water pooling, handling, lid fit, condensation, and cleaning. It also says it cross-referenced more than 1,900 customer reviews. These are Testix’s stated methods and review dataset; they are not tests conducted by this publisher.
Testix’s 2026 scoring weights were insulation and ice retention at 30%, build quality and materials at 25%, ease of use at 20%, aesthetics and design at 15%, and value for money at 10%. That framework is useful for understanding how its comparison prioritizes performance, but the weights are Testix’s—not a universal measure of what every buyer should value.
Match the features to your serving setup
| Need | Feature to look for | Documented example |
|---|---|---|
| Ice that lasts during extended service | Double-wall insulation | Crafthouse by Fortessa, Polder Chill Station, OXO set, and Christofle Club 30 are described as insulated by their respective sources. |
| Chill a bottle or several drinks | A shape and capacity that fit the intended bottles | Liquor.com says the 2-quart Crafthouse oval fits a six-pack or two bottles side by side; its Winco option is a 4-quart wine bucket. |
| Keep meltwater from mixing with serving ice | Drain grate or meltwater reservoir | The Crafthouse has a built-in drain board; the OXO set has a meltwater reservoir, according to Liquor.com. |
| Serve outside | Portability, stability, lid, or bottle sleeve | The Polder has a non-slip base, stainless-steel sleeve, and see-through lid, according to Liquor.com. |
| Reduce cleanup effort | Check washing instructions before buying | Liquor.com says the OXO set is hand-wash only; Christofle recommends hand washing the Club 30. |
Cleaning, storage, and practical trade-offs
Accessories add convenience but can add parts to keep track of. Liquor.com notes that the Polder’s removable lids and plastic scoop may be misplaced. The Crafthouse’s included scoop and drain board serve a different purpose from the OXO set’s tongs, garnish tray, and reservoir; choose according to how you serve, rather than treating every accessory as essential.
Material alone does not tell you how long ice will last. Liquor.com describes stainless steel as durable but also identifies the Winco’s stainless-steel construction as uninsulated. For short service or bottle chilling that may be a reasonable trade-off; for an extended session, prioritize an insulated design and verify the product’s cleaning instructions.
