Probably, if it is built close to its review-stage height—but its exact U.S. ranking is not yet established. Federal environmental-review materials describe a proposed tower of up to 92 stories and approximately 1,575 feet. Later project information gives different story and height figures, and the latest permit announcement does not state a height. The project is proposed, not a completed skyscraper.
How tall is 175 Park Avenue proposed to be?
175 Park Avenue, also known as Project Commodore, is a proposed mixed-use tower beside Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan, on the site of the Hyatt Grand Central New York. The federal environmental-review description gives a proposal of up to 92 stories and approximately 1,575 feet. That is a review-stage description, not a final as-built measurement. The U.S. Permitting Dashboard project page and the Federal Transit Administration project materials describe that version.
Other published figures differ. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the architect, lists 1,545 feet and 83 stories on its project page. RXR’s 2026 announcement of updated permits describes a 95-story tower of approximately 3 million square feet, but gives no height. The developer announcement therefore does not establish a final height that can be matched to the 95-story count.

These figures should not be blended into a single definitive specification. Story counts alone do not determine a tower’s height, and the sources describe different project materials or versions.

Would it be one of the tallest buildings in the United States?
If completed at approximately 1,575 feet, 175 Park Avenue would be among the tallest buildings in the country. That is a conditional assessment based on the height in the federal review description—not a confirmed future rank. A precise ordinal such as second, third, or fourth would require a final height and a dated comparison using a consistent measurement standard and a defined set of completed U.S. buildings. The reviewed project sources do not establish those facts.
For any skyscraper comparison, the measurement convention matters: architectural top, roof height, and other measures can produce different results. Completion status and comparison date matter too. A proposed tower should not be described as though it already holds a rank among completed buildings.

What is planned for the site?
The proposal is a mixed-use office and hotel development with retail, publicly accessible outdoor space, and transit-related improvements. Federal environmental-review materials describe approximately 2.9 million gross square feet overall: about 2.2 million square feet of office space, 258,000 square feet of hotel space including about 200 rooms, 21,000 square feet of publicly accessible outdoor terrace, 25,000 square feet of MTA circulation space, and 3,000 square feet of retail. The Permitting Dashboard’s figures are tied to that review description.
SOM separately lists 2.2 million square feet of gross area on its project page. Because the sources use different project descriptions and accounting contexts, that figure should not be treated as directly interchangeable with the federal review’s approximately 2.9 million gross square feet.

What is the project’s current status?
The project has advanced through several review and permitting milestones, but those milestones do not mean construction is underway. The Permitting Dashboard marked environmental review and permitting complete on January 9, 2026. A separate federal Section 106 record says consultation concluded on January 8, 2026, with a finding of no adverse effect. These dates describe environmental and historic-preservation review outcomes, not financing, completion of every construction authorization, or a construction start.

A reliable ranking will require the final project height, the measurement convention used, and confirmation of the tower’s completed status. Those details can then be compared with other completed U.S. buildings as of the same date. Until then, the defensible description is that 175 Park Avenue could rank among the tallest if built near the review-stage height—not that it has a settled national position.
