For a heated outer layer, Milwaukee’s M12 Heated TOUGHSHELL Jacket is the clearest fit: Milwaukee describes it as wind- and water-resistant, with heat in the chest, back, and pockets. Choose the M12 Heated AXIS Vest for freer arm movement under a separate shell, or the M12 Heated Hoodie for a soft, hooded layer when a protective work-shell exterior is not the priority. These recommendations compare manufacturer-stated features, not results from a hands-on side-by-side test.
Quick comparison
| Garment | Best suited to | Heating zones | Listed runtime | Construction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M12 Heated TOUGHSHELL Jacket | A heated outer layer with stated wind and water resistance | Chest, back, and pockets (three zones) | Up to 12 hours on low, 6 on medium, and 3 on high | Stretch polyester exterior with DWR finish; described by Milwaukee as wind- and water-resistant |
| M12 Heated AXIS Vest | Arm mobility and layering beneath another outer shell | Chest and back (two zones) | Up to 8 hours on low, 4 on medium, and 2 on high | Lightweight ripstop; not described as the same kind of protective jacket shell |
| M12 Heated Hoodie | A soft, hooded layer for casual wear or less exposed conditions | Chest and back (two zones) | Up to 8 hours on low, 4 on medium, and 2 on high | Fleece and warm jersey lining; a hoodie layer, not a replacement for a weather shell |
Runtime figures are Milwaukee’s published specifications for the listed products, not independently verified results. They do not establish how long a garment will run in a particular jobsite setting. Sources: Milwaukee Tool’s heated gear category and product listings for the jacket, vest, and hoodie.
Which Milwaukee heated garment fits your work?
Choose the TOUGHSHELL Jacket for a heated outer layer
The TOUGHSHELL is the strongest match when you want the garment itself to serve as a work-facing outer layer. Milwaukee describes its stretch-polyester exterior as wind- and water-resistant and lists a DWR finish. Its three heating zones cover the chest, back, and pockets, unlike the cited vest and hoodie listings, which specify chest and back heat.
Milwaukee lists the jacket at up to 12 hours on low, 6 on medium, and 3 on high. Those are company-stated runtimes, not a measure of warmth or a promise of a particular shift’s runtime.

Choose the AXIS Vest for arm freedom and layering
The vest keeps the arms uncovered, which may suit work that calls for more arm movement or layering beneath a separate coat. Milwaukee describes it as lightweight and made with ripstop fabric. Its listed heating zones are the chest and back; it is not presented as the same kind of wind- and water-resistant shell as the TOUGHSHELL jacket.
The category listing gives the vest up to 8 hours on low, 4 on medium, and 2 on high. The specific M300B-20M example is marked as a battery kit: no; other kit and color variants exist, so check the exact listing.

- Heat Core Body Areas: Durable carbon fiber heating zones distribute and maintain heat to chest and back
- Rugged Construction: Durable cotton exterior and waffle-weave polyester lining withstand tough outdoor conditions and keep heat close to body
- Adjustable Heat: One touch heat control provides the right heat for any weather
- A range of proprietary material solutions drastically outperform traditional work wear with materials made to be stronger, lighter, and more flexible than what exists today; Washer and dryer safe
Choose the Hoodie for a soft, hooded layer
The M12 Heated Hoodie is the option for a full-zip, hooded garment with fleece and warm jersey lining. Milwaukee lists chest and back heating, a three-panel hood, and a full zip to the chin. It may fit casual wear or less exposed conditions, but its hoodie construction is not a substitute for a weather shell.
Milwaukee lists up to 8 hours on low, 4 on medium, and 2 on high. Verify the exact hoodie model and kit configuration before purchase.

What runtime and heat zones tell you—and what they do not
Zone count identifies where Milwaukee says the heating elements are placed; it does not rank overall comfort. Likewise, the listed runtime is a manufacturer specification, not an independent field result. The cited product material does not establish a controlled head-to-head warmth test, thermal rating, or independently measured runtime in real-world conditions.
All three cited garment types use Milwaukee’s M12 platform, and Milwaukee’s category listing references its Heated Gear Power Source with App Control. A garment may be sold alone or in a battery kit. Check the contents for the precise SKU you are considering rather than assuming a battery or power source is included.
