To connect two powered subwoofers, first check how many suitable subwoofer outputs your receiver has. With one output, use an RCA Y-splitter to feed both subs. With two, connect one sub to each output and check your receiver’s manual for how it handles levels, distance, delay and calibration. Then run the receiver’s setup and room-calibration procedure.
Choose the connection that matches your receiver

Audioholics recommends a Y-splitter when a processor has only one subwoofer output: Audioholics’ subwoofer setup guide. Denon’s AVR-X3600H manual says, “Two subwoofers can be connected to this unit,” and documents separate level and distance settings for Subwoofer 1 and 2: Denon AVR-X3600H owner’s manual.
Connect and configure the subs
If the receiver has one output
- Turn off the receiver and both subwoofers before connecting cables.
- Connect the receiver’s subwoofer output to an RCA Y-splitter.
- Connect one cable from each splitter leg to a powered subwoofer’s line or LFE input, following the equipment manuals.
- Turn the equipment back on and run the receiver’s speaker setup and room-calibration process.
If the receiver has two outputs
- With the equipment off, connect each receiver subwoofer output to one powered subwoofer’s line or LFE input.
- Use the receiver’s setup menu and manual to determine whether the outputs have separate level and distance controls or a dual-sub calibration routine.
- Run the specified calibration with the supplied or required microphone in the positions instructed by the receiver manual.
Capabilities vary by model. Denon’s AVR-X7200WA manual describes Audyssey Sub EQ HT compensating for differences in level and delay between two subwoofers before applying MultEQ XT32 to the pair: Denon AVR-X7200WA owner’s manual. Treat this as a feature of that documented model, not a guarantee about every receiver with two jacks.
Set bass management without stacking crossovers
When the receiver manages bass, avoid leaving an unintended second low-pass crossover active on each subwoofer. Audioholics recommends disabling the subwoofer’s internal low-pass filter, or setting it to its highest frequency, when the processor handles the crossover: Audioholics’ subwoofer setup guide.

The same guide suggests setting speakers to Small and using an 80 Hz crossover as a starting point, not a universal rule: Audioholics’ crossover recommendations. Follow your receiver and speaker manuals, then adjust crossover and levels as needed for your system and room.
Calibrate placement, level and timing
Run the receiver’s room correction after wiring, using the prescribed microphone and positions. Evaluate the result at the seats that matter; placement and timing affect how the two subs combine. If the receiver provides separate subwoofer distance or delay settings, use its calibration procedure rather than assuming the subs should be set to opposite phase.

SVS explains that AVR distance settings commonly handle time alignment in digital bass-management systems, while a subwoofer’s phase control may help when two subs are in different positions: SVS guidance on subwoofer phase and alignment. Placement is room-dependent. For the AVR-X3800H, Denon lists symmetric front-left/right and front/rear-center arrangements as supported two-sub layouts; these are options for that model, not a guarantee of best performance in every room: Denon AVR-X3800H owner’s manual. If calibration or listening reveals uneven bass, try different practical positions and repeat the receiver’s calibration.

If your subwoofers are different models
Two different subs can be connected using the same wiring options, but their combined result cannot be predicted from the hookup alone. Placement, each sub’s response and level, and the receiver’s calibration all matter. Use the equipment manuals and evaluate the calibrated result in your room rather than assuming the pair will integrate identically or deliver a particular increase in output or bass extension.
