La explicación técnica presentada por los peritos del Ministerio Público es que el techo de la discoteca Jet Set colapsó por una sobrecarga acumulada: el peso añadido habría excedido la capacidad de las vigas, que sufrieron fatiga y fueron cediendo. Esa conclusión pericial no es, por sí misma, una sentencia sobre culpabilidad.
Qué causó el colapso, según los peritos
El techo del local, situado en la avenida Independencia de Santo Domingo, se desplomó a las 12:44 a. m. del 8 de abril de 2025. El informe preliminar remitido a la Procuraduría, reseñado por Diario Libre el 16 de junio de 2025, señaló que las cargas sobrepasaron la capacidad de los elementos estructurales encargados de mantener seguro el techo.
En septiembre de 2026, el procurador adjunto Wilson Camacho dijo que los tres peritos presentados por el Ministerio Público —Leonardo Reyes Madera, Máximo Corominas y Eduardo Fierro— coincidieron en que el peso añadido provocó fatiga progresiva en las vigas, que cedieron antes del derrumbe. Central de Noticias atribuyó a Camacho esta síntesis: “que se colocó peso de más, que no calcularon el peso que estaban colocando sobre el techo y que eso generó una fatiga en las vigas, que hizo que las vigas fueran cediendo y colapsaran”. Se trata de lo expuesto por la parte acusadora en el proceso, no de una determinación judicial definitiva.
Qué cargas identificó el informe
El informe preliminar enumeró materiales y equipos incorporados sobre el techo. La carga descrita no correspondía a un único elemento, sino a la suma de varias capas y añadidos:

La nota de Central de Noticias del 11 de septiembre de 2026 indicó que el director de Onesvie, Leonardo de Jesús Reyes Madera, atribuyó al testimonio pericial una comparación de cerca de cinco veces el peso original: unas 160 libras frente a más de 650 libras. La nota no explica la metodología ni la base de medición, por lo que esa cifra debe entenderse como un dato del testimonio resumido por la fuente, no como una medición independiente aquí verificada.
¿Fue un terremoto, una explosión o el clima?
Según el relato de Central de Noticias sobre lo expuesto por Camacho en septiembre de 2026, los peritos de la acusación descartaron un terremoto, una explosión, vientos fuertes, lluvias fuertes y el incendio ocurrido en 2023 como causas del colapso.

El informe preliminar reseñado por Diario Libre también descartaba un sismo o un evento climático anormal. En cuanto a explosivos e incendio, ese informe decía que estaban descartados “por el momento”, a la espera de un informe final del Cuerpo de Bomberos. Esa formulación preliminar es anterior al testimonio pericial posterior y no debe confundirse con una sentencia.
Cómo se investigó el derrumbe
El Gobierno anunció un equipo de expertos nacionales e internacionales coordinado por la Oficina Nacional de Evaluación Sísmica y Vulnerabilidad de Infraestructura y Edificaciones (Onesvie). También comunicó que los escombros y equipos quedaron bajo custodia para su análisis forense. La separación entre la evaluación técnica y la investigación del Ministerio Público fue señalada por la Presidencia en abril de 2025.

Según el informe preliminar reseñado por Diario Libre, la recomendación para la estructura restante fue: “No reparación, solo demolición y reconstrucción”. Es una recomendación atribuida a ese informe técnico, no una instrucción general para otros edificios.
Qué se sabe del proceso judicial
El Ministerio Público presentó acusación contra Antonio Espaillat López y Maribel Espaillat Veras el 6 de abril de 2026. Según el comunicado reseñado por Central de Noticias, la fiscalía alegó que se sobrecargó el techo con equipos de climatización y tinacos sin estudios técnicos que garantizaran la resistencia de la estructura, y que se ignoraron advertencias internas sobre deterioro. Son alegaciones de la acusación; no equivalen a hechos declarados probados por sentencia.

Central de Noticias informó en septiembre de 2026 que el tribunal seguía escuchando a los peritos y que el expediente técnico presentado al tribunal tenía 156 páginas y 84 testigos. Las fuentes citadas no reportaban una sentencia final a esa fecha.

Las cifras disponibles no son idénticas y deben conservar su fuente y fecha. Central de Noticias reprodujo el 6 de abril de 2026 la cifra del Ministerio Público de 236 fallecidos y más de 100 heridos. En una nota del 11 de septiembre de 2026, la misma publicación citó a Camacho hablando de más de 180 heridos. No corresponde combinar ambas cifras como si fueran un único recuento actualizado.
