What IKEA Kreativ does—and what it does not
IKEA describes Kreativ as “a free virtual room designer that lets you see IKEA furniture and décor in your own space before you buy.” It lets you try catalog items in a room image or a digital room, making it useful for visualizing furnishings and exploring ideas.
Choose a photo, a 3D room, or a starter room
- Photo-based design: Take or upload a photo, then use the tool to remove existing furniture and try IKEA catalog products in the room.
- Build a 3D room: In the app, room scanning requires a LiDAR-enabled device. In the web room builder, you can enter room dimensions manually instead.
- Start with a pre-built room: IKEA’s US getting-started guidance lists more than 50 pre-built rooms to explore.
You can access Kreativ through the IKEA app or IKEA.com, according to IKEA’s US guidance. It is for visualization, not a substitute for verified measurements or construction validation. IKEA says it does not support full kitchen design and directs customers to its dedicated kitchen planner. How IKEA’s kitchen planner works
IKEA US lists separate online planners for its SEKTION, ENHET, and KNOXHULT kitchen systems. IKEA says the kitchen planner works on a desktop or laptop without a software download; its planning directory warns that it is not compatible with mobile devices. Start with the planner for the system you are considering.
Get a kitchen plan started
- Open the relevant Kitchen planner from IKEA’s US kitchen-planner page on a desktop or laptop.
- Choose how to begin. IKEA says you can start from scratch or use design suggestions. The setup asks for initial kitchen preferences and a room shape.
- Add measurements and products. Use your room dimensions and place the items you want to plan.
- Sign in to save the design. IKEA recommends signing in with an IKEA Family profile so you can find the plan later. IKEA also says saved kitchen designs are linked to your email address; sign in and reopen the Kitchen planner to view one.
A planner can help you work through a layout and product choices, but the published guidance does not establish that a self-service plan is a construction or installation validation.
What to measure before planning a kitchen
IKEA recommends measuring before using the kitchen planner or attending a planning appointment. Record the room’s height, width, and depth, then note the positions and dimensions of fixed features that could affect the layout.

IKEA describes kitchen appointments as 90 minutes.
