Black faucet finishes also featured in a separate NKBA report summary, while design roundups showcased a wider mix of colors and styles. These are findings and forecasts reported for 2024—not proof that every homeowner chose them or that they describe preferences in 2026.
What “popular” means in the 2024 bathroom trend reports
The figures below come from different sources and populations, so they are not a single ranked list. A Today USA News Paper article reports findings from a U.S. Houzz homeowner study; Vintage Tub & Bath summarizes the NKBA’s 2024 Bath Trends Report; and a design-build firm’s roundup presents styles as editorial inspiration. The accessible summaries do not provide all original methodology details.
Function and accessibility gained attention
Today USA News Paper’s account of the Houzz study says 27% of homeowners cited making the bathroom more accommodating as a renovation motivation in 2024, up from 23% in 2023. The same coverage says nearly two-thirds of homeowners addressed special needs through renovations, including grab bars, nonslip flooring, curbless showers, and additional lighting. These are reported homeowner choices and motivations, not a claim that every renovation included accessibility work.
For a project, decide first whether you need a cosmetic refresh or a layout and access change. Grab bars, slip-resistant surfaces, and curbless entries should be planned around the people using the room and the existing structure, rather than added solely to imitate a trend.

Tile remained a leading shower choice
According to the Houzz findings as reported by Today USA News Paper, 87% of homeowners chose tile for shower flooring and 83% for shower walls. Rectangular tile was the preferred shower-wall shape for 82% of respondents. For shower floors, the leading shapes were rectangular (28%), hexagonal (23%), and square (22%). These percentages describe choices in the reported study; they should not be read as figures for all bathrooms or markets.
Tile offers many layout and finish options, but the source does not compare products or test maintenance. Grout and smaller-format layouts can require more cleaning attention, so discuss surface care, slip resistance, and installation details with a qualified installer before choosing a pattern.

Wet rooms and shower layouts appeared in remodels
The Today USA News Paper summary reports that 13% of remodeled bathrooms included a wet room. Respondents’ stated reasons included space use (66%), universal design (39%), aesthetics (33%), and easier cleaning (29%). These are reported reasons, not a guarantee that a wet room will be easier to maintain in every home.
Among homeowners updating tubs in wet rooms, flat-bottom freestanding tubs (36%) and alcove tubs (35%) were nearly even. The report also gives low-curb showers at 45% and alcove showers at 44%. These separate options suggest there was no single layout dominating every remodel.

A wet-room conversion or shower relocation is a larger construction decision than changing finishes. Room dimensions, waterproofing, drainage, existing plumbing, and the project budget determine what is practical; the trend coverage does not establish current prices or product-level installation suitability.
Neutrals led reported surface colors, with bolder palettes in design coverage
The Houzz coverage reports white as the leading countertop color (50%) and off-white second (20%), with white and off-white also described as leading choices for shower and other bathroom walls. Gray led vanity color selection by just one percentage point. Mitchell Parker, Houzz senior editor, is quoted in the Today USA News Paper article as saying, “White is the most popular color for most bathroom features, followed by off-white.” The quotation is reproduced there, rather than cited here from the original Houzz publication.

Separately, design roundups for 2024 highlighted green, muted blue, earthy tones, copper accents, and darker palettes. Those are editorial directions and inspiration, not survey rankings. A restrained approach is to keep permanent surfaces neutral and bring stronger color into paint, accessories, or other easier-to-change elements; a more expressive palette can work when it suits the room and the rest of the home.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Black faucets were prominent, but other finishes remained options
Vintage Tub & Bath’s summary of the NKBA’s 2024 Bath Trends Report says 51% of respondents preferred black bathroom faucet finishes, while 45% preferred nickel or pewter. These figures come from a different report and population than the Houzz statistics, so they do not establish a combined finish ranking.

A separate retailer roundup discusses matte black, brushed nickel, polished chrome, brushed gold, and oil-rubbed bronze as finish possibilities; that qualitative list is not a survey result. When selecting a finish, consider existing fixtures and hardware as well as the look you want. Confirm that the faucet suits your sink and plumbing setup, and ask about the care recommended for its specific finish; the sources do not provide comparative product testing.
Style roundups offered variety, not a national ranking
One design-build firm’s editorial roundup covered farmhouse, cottagecore, seascape, minimalist, botanical, glam, sauna-inspired, French country, rustic, blue-toned, copper-accented, and noir bathrooms. This is evidence of the range of styles receiving attention in design coverage, not proof that these styles were the most widely adopted by homeowners.
Use style labels as a starting point, then narrow choices by the room’s proportions, existing finishes, and the scope of work. A surface refresh can change the mood without committing to a major remodel; a new layout or wet room calls for construction planning first.
Quick Recap
How to apply the 2024 trends to a bathroom project
- Set the project scope. Decide whether you are updating surfaces and fixtures or changing the shower, tub, layout, or accessibility of the room.
- Prioritize the people using the bathroom. Consider access, lighting, grab bars, and slip-resistant flooring where they meet a real need.
- Choose surfaces and finishes together. Compare tile shape and palette with the vanity, faucet finish, and hardware already in place.
- Check feasibility before committing. Ask a qualified contractor or installer about dimensions, plumbing, drainage, waterproofing, maintenance, and costs for the specific project. The 2024 trend reports do not supply current prices or confirm installation suitability for individual products.
