Before troubleshooting a Heat & Glo fireplace, find its rating plate and record the model and serial number. Then use the owner’s manual for that exact model: ignition systems, controls and reset procedures vary across the product line. Match the symptom below to the manufacturer’s care and operation resources and manual lookup rather than trying a procedure from another fireplace.
Identify your fireplace before trying a fix
Heat & Glo’s care page explains where to locate the rating plate. Record the model and serial number, then note the fuel type, ignition system, control type and what the fireplace does when you try to operate it. Search the manufacturer’s manuals by model name or number and confirm that the manual matches your appliance before following any instructions.
Controls may include a remote, wall switch, app or manual control, and not every model uses the same system. A reset or pairing sequence that applies to one unit may not apply to another.
If the fireplace will not respond to its control
First establish which control your model uses and follow the matching operation instructions in its manual. For a remote-control problem, use Heat & Glo’s Remote Control Help and the model-specific pairing or reset instructions. For a lockout, use the manual’s lockout reset procedure only if that feature is specified for your fireplace.

Heat & Glo also provides guidance for battery backup and IntelliFire controls. These are system-specific resources, not universal steps for every fireplace. If the control still does not operate the unit after you have followed the correct instructions, stop troubleshooting and contact an authorized dealer.
If the pilot will not light
Use the manual’s pilot-lighting instructions for your model. Heat & Glo labels this support topic “Pilot won’t light.” If the pilot does not light, or you are unsure how to follow the manual, do not remove panels or attempt internal repair. Arrange service through an authorized dealer.

If you hear or see sparking but the pilot does not light
A spark without ignition is different from no spark, but either symptom can require model-specific diagnosis. Do not attempt wiring, gas-pressure, valve or electrical checks: an indexed Cerona owner manual identifies its troubleshooting section as work for qualified service technicians and directs owners to arrange dealer service. That manual is an example, not instructions for every Heat & Glo model. Contact an authorized dealer for diagnosis.
If you notice an odor or suspect a gas problem
Stop appliance troubleshooting and follow the safety guidance in Heat & Glo’s odor guidance, which explains precautions and when to contact the dealer or gas utility. If you suspect a gas problem, contact the gas utility or dealer as appropriate; do not continue trying to light or reset the fireplace.

Glass cleaning and routine care
For glass cleaning and ordinary care, follow the use-and-care instructions for your exact model. Heat & Glo’s care and operation resources cover glass cleaning as well as basic operation. Do not substitute general fireplace-cleaning instructions for the manufacturer’s directions for your appliance.

Contact an authorized local Heat & Glo dealer if the model-specific operation or control instructions do not resolve the issue, if the manual calls for qualified service, or if you need diagnosis, parts or warranty help. The manufacturer’s service resources can help locate support. Heat & Glo says on its owner-resources page: “We do not ship parts directly to consumers.” Parts should be identified for the exact model and diagnosis, not guessed from a general symptom.
