Flocking already gives a Christmas tree a snowy look, so let that texture guide the decorations. For a woodland feel, pair red berries and burlap with animal ornaments; for winter sparkle, try silver, crystal, and glitter; for a cooler, more colorful scheme, combine frosty blue and silver with a restrained touch of gold. These 27 combinations offer different ways to build on the white branches with color, texture, ribbon, picks, and thoughtful ornament placement.
A heavily flocked tree has branches covered with artificial snow, while a frosted tree has a lighter dusting. The distinction can affect how much of the tree’s own greenery remains visible; Balsam Hill discusses both looks in its guide to flocking a Christmas tree. The ideas below are styling combinations, not a ranking or a set of required rules.

Woodland and natural looks
1. Enchanted woodland
Mix bird, squirrel, or owl ornaments with burlap ribbon and red berry picks. Classic ball ornaments fill the gaps and give the more distinctive pieces room to stand out.
2. Rustic berry and burlap
Let burlap ribbon and red berries carry the theme, then add familiar ornaments in a restrained palette. The contrast of rough ribbon and bright red against flocked branches keeps the look festive without relying on many colors.

3. Classic balls and finials
Combine round ornaments with elongated finials to vary the shapes across the tree. A few berry picks can connect the traditional ornaments to a woodland-inspired palette.
4. Snowy woodland floor
Carry the tree’s wintry look down to its base with a white tree skirt. Woodland ornaments and natural accents make the scene feel connected rather than as if the tree and base were decorated separately.
5. Burlap and metallic contrast
Pair burlap ribbon with silver or gray ornaments. The natural-looking ribbon softens the shine, while the metallic pieces catch the light against the pale branches.
6. Red berry focal points
Distribute red berry picks among classic ornaments so the red appears in several places instead of forming one dense cluster. The small repeated accents give the pale tree a clear focal color.

Combine wood-bead garland and burlap with a selection of metallic ornaments. Keeping the shiny pieces selective lets natural materials remain part of the look rather than disappear beneath the sparkle.
8. Lit winter woodland
Use woodland ornaments and natural accents with light strings for an evening glow. The decorating guidance from Balsam Hill includes lights among the details that can support a flocked-tree display; it does not specify a required color temperature or light count.
9. Simple snowy finish
Keep the arrangement spare: a white skirt, snowy picks, coordinated ornaments, and neutral ribbon. This approach leaves more of the flocking visible than a tree covered from top to bottom with decorations.
Silver, crystal, and icy palettes
10. Silver frost
Use silver and gray ornaments as the main colors, then bring in crystal-like and glittering details for varied reflections. The combination follows the metallic winter palette described in Balsam Hill’s flocked-tree guidance.

11. Crystal canopy
Build a reflective look with silver and gray accents and ornaments that resemble crystal or carry glitter. Vary the sizes and shapes so the sparkle is distributed across the branches rather than concentrated in one spot.
12. Silver-and-neutral layers
Soften silver accents with neutral ribbon. The neutral strip of color breaks up the reflective ornaments while staying close to the tree’s snowy palette.
13. Blue, silver, and crystal
Start with frosty blue and silver, then add crystal-like or glitter details for extra reflection. Keeping the palette to these cool tones makes the different finishes—not a large number of colors—the source of variety.
14. Silver-and-white snow scene
Pair silver ornaments with pale snowy picks to make the branches and decorations read as one wintry scene. Leave some flocked areas open so the picks do not simply blend into a fully covered tree.

Make frosty blue and silver the dominant colors and use gold sparingly as a warm accent. Balsam Hill’s frosted-tree decorating guide suggests this blue-and-gold direction with neutral ribbon and snowy details.
16. Snowy branch bouquet
Arrange snowy picks and ivory branches among pale ornaments to create a soft, layered silhouette. This look works best when the added branches vary in height and direction instead of forming an even ring.
17. Neutral ribbon and icy ornaments
Balance blue and gold ornaments with neutral ribbon. The ribbon provides a quieter element between the colored decorations and the flocking, without competing with either.
18. Gold-accented snow
Keep the overall effect cool with silver and frosty blue, then repeat a few small gold details around the tree. Their limited use makes the warmer color an accent rather than a second dominant palette.

Ribbon, texture, and placement ideas
19. Velvet and sheer shimmer
Layer velvet ribbon with a narrower, sparkly sheer ribbon. Their contrasting textures add interest even when both ribbons follow the same path through the branches. Balsam Hill explains ribbon layering and placement options in its guide to decorating a tree with ribbon.
20. Ribbon waterfall
Use wired ribbon in loose cascades, tucking sections into the branches so it appears to flow through the tree rather than sit flat across the surface. Wired ribbon can be shaped as you work, as described in the Balsam Hill ribbon guide.
21. Diagonal ribbon spiral
Wrap wired ribbon around the tree in a gentle diagonal spiral, tucking it into branches at intervals to hold its path. Leave enough space between turns for ornaments and flocking to remain visible.
22. Layered ribbon widths
Place a wider velvet ribbon alongside a narrower sparkly sheer one. The difference in width makes the layering visible, while the contrast between soft and reflective textures keeps the pairing from looking like a single broad strip.
23. Soft pink winter accents
Add soft pink ornaments to a flocked tree and pair them with layered ribbon. The pale branches give the pink a light backdrop; use it as an accent if you want the tree to retain a snowy feel.
24. Flocked texture showcase
Fluff the branches so their shape and coating are visible, then avoid covering every section with ornaments and ribbon. A flocked tree’s texture is part of the decoration, not merely a backdrop.
25. Ornaments tucked inward
Place larger ornaments deeper among the branches to create a sense of depth. Balsam Hill recommends this inward placement in its frosted-tree guide.
26. Outer-branch sparkle
Reserve smaller ornaments for the outer branches, where their details are easier to see. Paired with larger ornaments placed farther in, they create layers across the tree instead of a single surface of decorations.

Thread wood-bead garland through the branches and add selected metallic ornaments. The beads add a natural texture, while a few reflective pieces connect the look to the tree’s snowy finish. Maison de Pax also features wood-bead garland with metallic accents in its flocked-tree decorating ideas.
Quick Recap
How to make the arrangement feel balanced
- Choose a direction first. Decide whether the tree should feel woodland, metallic, icy, or softly neutral before mixing ornaments and ribbon.
- Vary texture and placement. Combine contrasting finishes—such as burlap and metallic ornaments or velvet and sheer ribbon—and use both inner and outer branches.
- Leave some branches visible. Open spaces let the flocking contribute to the design, particularly if the tree has a heavy coating.
- Coordinate the base and supporting details. A skirt, berry or snowy picks, and lights can reinforce the chosen look without needing to match every ornament exactly.
