The best stackable washer and dryer set depends on your laundry-room space, available hookups, and whether you want two separate appliances or a single integrated tower. For separate machines, confirm that the exact washer and dryer models are approved to stack and use their specified kit; a tower is a different, one-piece configuration. The examples below are U.S.-market models listed by their manufacturers, not independently tested winners.
Stackable washer and dryer sets to consider
These examples show the main configurations available. Washer and dryer capacity are listed separately because the two drums do not necessarily match. Confirm current specifications, included accessories, availability, and installation requirements before purchase.
| Configuration | Washer capacity | Dryer capacity and type | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Bespoke separate pair | 5.3 cu. ft. | 7.5 cu. ft., gas | Samsung describes the pair as stackable and lists stacking kit SKK-9MCD in the product details. Confirm the exact washer, dryer, kit, and bundle contents with the seller. Samsung product listing |
| LG WashTower WKHC252HWA | 5.0 cu. ft. | 7.8 cu. ft., ventless heat-pump | This is one integrated vertical unit, not two separately stacked appliances. Its specification sheet identifies the washer as Most Efficient ENERGY STAR and the dryer as ENERGY STAR certified; verify current certification for this exact model. | Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Hub | 4.6 cu. ft. | 7.6 cu. ft.; gas and electric configurations listed | Check the specific configuration, fuel hookup, dimensions, and installation instructions. Samsung Laundry Hub category |

Separate stackable pair or laundry tower?
Choose separate machines when replacement flexibility matters
A separate front-load washer and dryer are two appliances joined vertically with a model-compatible stacking kit. That arrangement may suit a room with a narrow footprint while preserving the option to replace one appliance independently later. It also means you need to check compatibility for the precise washer-and-dryer combination, obtain the required hardware, and plan installation and service access for two machines.

Choose a tower when you want an integrated layout
A laundry tower is built as one vertical appliance configuration. The washer and dryer capacities, dryer type, hookups, and controls depend on the specific model. Do not assume that a tower has the same installation, replacement, or service implications as a pair of independent machines; consult its product specifications and installation guide.
Can any washer and dryer be stacked?
No. Compatibility is model-specific. LG says not all washer and dryer models can be stacked and directs customers to check compatibility. For applicable LG separate-appliance arrangements, an optional stacking kit is required. Treat that as LG-specific guidance and verify the selected brands’ own model compatibility and manuals before buying. LG stacking guidance

How much room do you need?
Measure the installation space and the route appliances must travel through, then compare those measurements with the exact model dimensions and installation instructions. Whirlpool’s general guide says many front-load units are about 27 inches wide and 39 inches high each, and suggests planning around 29 inches wide and 80 inches high for a stacked pair. These are planning estimates, not a fit guarantee; model sizes vary. Whirlpool washer and dryer sizing guide
- Width, height, and depth: Check the product’s dimensions and the installation guide, not just a category average.
- Clearance and doors: Account for required rear and side clearance, door swing, hoses, and any vent duct. Confirm you can open doors and reach the controls comfortably.
- Delivery route: Measure doorways, stairs, turns, and other pinch points on the path into the laundry area.
- Floor and service access: Confirm the floor can support the installed appliances and that a technician can access the equipment for service.
Whirlpool’s estimates are useful for early planning only; the actual model’s dimensions and manufacturer clearances determine whether a particular space works.

Match the dryer to your hookups and venting
Do not choose by capacity alone. The examples include a gas dryer in Samsung’s separate pair, gas or electric versions of Samsung’s Laundry Hub, an electric Whirlpool tower, and LG’s ventless heat-pump tower. Identify the fuel and electrical service available in your home, and whether the installation needs an exhaust vent, before settling on a model. Have the product’s installation requirements checked against the room’s existing connections; a configuration that does not match your hookups may require additional work or may not be suitable.
What to check before ordering
- Record exact model numbers. Make sure the washer and dryer are the intended matching models, not just products from the same brand or product family.
- Verify stacking hardware. For a separate pair, confirm the manufacturer-approved kit for those exact models and whether it is included or must be bought separately.
- Compare both capacities. Choose a washer and dryer that suit your laundry needs, while recognizing that their stated capacities may differ.
- Confirm installation conditions. Check dimensions, clearances, hookups, venting, floor support, door swing, and access for installation and service.
- Read the model-specific installation guide. Use the appliance makers’ instructions for stacking and clearances rather than relying on general sizing rules.
- Check installed cost. Compare the full purchase and installation requirements, including any required kit or hookup work. Current prices and promotions change, so verify them with the retailer.
Safe installation matters
Stacked appliances are heavy, and installation details vary by model. LG’s stacking guidance calls for two or more people for its stacking procedure; LG’s installation information also recommends contacting a technician for stacked installation and cautions against relying on an unsuitable drywall fixing point. These are LG-specific instructions, not universal directions for every appliance. Follow the selected models’ manuals and use a qualified installer when required. Which option fits your project?
- For a compact room with separate appliances: Start with a verified front-load pair and its compatible kit, then confirm the stacked dimensions and required clearances.
- For a single integrated vertical unit: Compare towers by washer capacity, dryer capacity, fuel, venting, and dimensions; do not treat one model’s features as typical of all towers.
- For a home without a suitable exhaust vent: Consider a ventless model such as the listed LG heat-pump tower only if its other requirements and dimensions also work for the room.
- For an existing gas hookup: A gas dryer may be an option, but verify the exact model’s requirements and whether the particular pair or tower is compatible with the installation.
Manufacturer pages establish each product’s stated specifications and features; they do not establish which brand is most reliable or best-performing overall. Make the decision around verified fit, compatible components, available hookups, and the installation plan.
