Find current station construction notices, confirm parking and accessible routes, and check elevator and platform instructions before your trip.

Use the transit agency’s latest construction notice for the specific station, then check its map and update date. Confirm parking, the vehicle entrance, pick-up and drop-off, and a continuous accessible route all the way to the platform you need. Construction arrangements can change by project phase, so verify again before travelling and follow current on-site signs.

Start with the current station construction notice

Find the official notice for your station on the transit agency’s website. Read the update date and identify the project phase it covers; an old map, a general station page, or what you saw on a previous visit may describe a different arrangement. Use the notice’s map to follow the route from your arrival point to the station entrance and onward to your platform.

At the site, follow posted signs and staff instructions. If they differ from an online map, ask agency staff or use the contact channel in the current notice to clarify the route before proceeding.

Check parking and the arrival point separately

A notice saying parking is available does not necessarily mean the usual lot or accessible spaces are open. Look for the specific lot and vehicle entrance to use, any spaces that have moved or closed, and the location of accessible parking. Check whether pick-up and drop-off has moved, too, and how that area connects to the station.

  • UV OVERCOAT. Each sign has a clear UV resistant overcoat for enhanced durability, and chemical, weather and graffiti resistance.
  • PACK CONTENTS. One 18 x 12 inch blue, black and white reflective aluminum sign.
  • Which parking areas remain open, and which are closed or relocated?
  • Where are accessible spaces, and is a continuous accessible path shown from them?
  • Which vehicle entrance should you use?
  • Has the pick-up/drop-off area changed, and can you reach the station entrance accessibly from there?

Trace an accessible route all the way to your platform

Check more than the entrance. Trace the route from your parking space, drop-off point, sidewalk, or connecting transit to the station entrance and the platform for your trip. Note whether the path uses a temporary walkway, tunnel, ramp, or elevator, and confirm that each link in the route is available.

Check elevator status close to your travel time and verify which platform it serves. A route can reach the station but still fail to reach the platform you need if construction changes platform access. If the notice does not clearly establish a continuous route or the elevator’s status, contact the agency using the details in the notice before travelling.

All signs come with pre-punched and pre-cleared mounting holes for easy installation. Signs mount to U-channel posts, square or round galvanized posts, wooden posts and chain link fences.

Look for temporary platform and boarding instructions

Construction may close part of a platform, move a boarding area, or change which train doors open. Check the notice for temporary platform locations, boarding areas, door instructions, and any alternative service arrangements. Follow the current notice and signs rather than carrying over instructions from an earlier project phase.

What station examples show about changing arrangements

GO Transit’s Long Branch notice describes a temporary north-side pedestrian route connecting to the north platform and tunnel, shifted parking with a designated walkway, and a partially closed platform. It also gives train-coach boarding advice for that configuration. Those details illustrate why the route and boarding instructions need to be checked against the current version of the Long Branch notice; they are not general instructions for other stations.

GO Transit’s Oakville notice lists inaccessible parking spaces, alternate parking, a specified garage entrance, and a temporary platform reached via pedestrian tunnels. The page was updated August 7, 2026; active construction details may change after that date. Check the Oakville notice for its current directions rather than assuming the listed arrangement remains in effect.

How construction standards relate to accessible access

For GO facilities, Metrolinx’s March 2025 Temporary Construction and Customer Experience Requirements say that when station access is affected, vehicular and bicycle parking, pick-up/drop-off, and the bus loop are to be maintained using temporary infrastructure unless otherwise approved. The requirements also call for an accessible route under the Metrolinx Universal Design Standard. They allow removal of accessible services only in extreme conditions, at Metrolinx’s discretion and in consultation, and call for an alternative-service sub-plan in that case. These are Metrolinx requirements for GO facilities, not a guarantee that every agency or project uses the same arrangements.

In the United States, the Federal Transit Administration’s 2016 Project and Construction Management Guidelines summarize accessibility rules for alterations: the path of travel to an altered or added portion is to be made accessible to the maximum extent feasible. The guidance also discusses documentation for certain claimed exceptions. It is US guidance and does not establish Canadian law or replace current requirements in another jurisdiction.
