For a full-size cordless DEWALT circular saw, the two 60V MAX candidates to compare are the conventional DCS578B and the rear-handle, worm-drive-style DCS577B. The DCS578B offers slightly greater published cutting depth and bevel range; the DCS577B gives you a different saw layout. These are specification-based distinctions, not proof that one cuts faster, lasts longer, or feels better. Choose by the stock and bevels you need, the handle-and-blade arrangement you prefer, and whether you need a bare tool or a battery kit.
Which DEWALT cordless circular saw is best for woodworking?
For most buyers choosing between these two full-size 60V saws, the DCS578B is the straightforward specification-led pick: it has a 7-1/4-inch blade, a listed 2-9/16-inch cut depth at 90 degrees, and up to 57 degrees of bevel. The DCS577B is the alternative if you specifically want a worm-drive-style, rear-handle saw with a left-oriented blade. Its listed cut depth and bevel capacity are slightly lower.
DEWALT’s product pages provide specifications, not independent head-to-head results. They do not establish comparative runtime, cutting speed, durability, or ergonomics, so treat the numbers below as published capacities rather than a performance ranking.

What the published specifications mean for your cuts
Blade size and cut depth
Both models use a 7-1/4-inch blade, a common full-size circular-saw format. DEWALT lists the DCS578B at 2-9/16 inches deep at 90 degrees and the DCS577B at 2-7/16 inches. Check the required depth against the actual thickness and cut angle of your material; the 90-degree figure does not describe capacity at a bevel. For repeated cuts or stock near a saw’s limit, confirm the required cut against the manual and a setup that supports the workpiece safely.
Bevel capacity
The DCS578B is specified for up to 57 degrees of bevel, compared with 53 degrees for the DCS577B. If your work includes angled cuts, compare the saw’s maximum range with the angles you actually need. A maximum bevel figure alone does not tell you how easily a particular saw sets or holds an angle.
Rank #2
- OUR MOST POWERFUL 20V MAX* CIRCULAR SAW - Cut through tough applications with up to 1,700 MWO.
- UP TO 368 CUTS PER CHARGE** - Make fast cuts with a powerful brushless motor that delivers up to 5,500 RPM (no-load).
- HIGH VERSATILITY - Take on a wide range of materials with a maximum depth of cut of 2-9/16 in. at a 90° and a maximum depth of cut of 2 in. at a 45°.
- ELECTRIC BRAKE Avoid wide, imprecise cuts with an automatic electric brake designed to stop the blade from coasting after the trigger switch is released.
Brake and visibility
DEWALT lists an electric brake and integrated LED on the DCS578B page. The cited DCS577B specifications do not establish a matching feature set, so do not assume the two models have identical equipment. Check the exact product listing and manual for the configuration you are considering.
Should you get a 20V or 60V DEWALT circular saw?
The DCS578 is specified for FLEXVOLT 20V/60V MAX batteries. DEWALT says FLEXVOLT batteries are compatible with tools in its 60V MAX and 20V MAX systems. That makes battery ownership a practical part of the decision: verify the battery platform printed for the saw, then confirm compatibility for the specific battery and tool rather than assuming every DEWALT battery fits every saw. See DEWALT’s FLEXVOLT platform information and the DCS578B specifications.
Rank #3
- DEWALT 7 1/4 circular saw has up to 47% more power vs the DCS575**
- Uses a 7-1/4-inch cordless circular saw blade and features a maximum cut depth of 2-9/16-inch at a 90 degree bevel.
- The compact circular saw has the maximum bevel capacity of 57 degree with bevel stops at 22.5 degree and 45 degree
- Electric brake stops the blade after the trigger is released
- Integrated LED for increased visibility and cut accuracy
The DCS573B is a 20V MAX 7-1/4-inch FLEXVOLT Advantage model, but DEWALT labels it discontinued. Consider it a historical or used-market option only, and check availability and condition before making it part of a buying decision: DEWALT DCS573B product page.
Choose between the conventional and rear-handle layout
The DCS578B is the conventional-layout option in this comparison. The DCS577B has a rear handle and left-oriented blade in a worm-drive-style form. Those descriptions identify the saw layouts; they do not establish which one will be more comfortable, balanced, or controllable for a particular person. If possible, handle the saws in person and consider which arrangement suits your stance, cut direction, and typical work setup.

Choose the right DCS578 package
The DCS578B is sold as a bare tool: its product page says the battery and charger are sold separately. DEWALT also lists two kits with different battery quantities. Compare the exact suffix and included items before ordering; a saw model name alone does not tell you whether a battery or charger is in the box.
| Package | Battery and charger | Other stated contents |
|---|---|---|
| DCS578B | Bare tool; battery and charger sold separately | Not stated on the cited product page |
| DCS578X1 | One FLEXVOLT 9Ah battery and charger | Contractor bag |
| DCS578X2 | Two FLEXVOLT 9Ah batteries and charger | Contractor bag |
Kit contents are listed on DEWALT’s DCS578X1 page and DCS578X2 page. The number of batteries is a package difference, not evidence of a particular runtime. Current price and stock are not established here; check the seller’s live listing for both.

How to make the final choice
- Confirm the cut. Match blade size, 90-degree cut depth, and bevel range to the material and angles in your work.
- Check your batteries. Identify the saw’s specified battery platform and verify that your existing battery is compatible.
- Choose the layout. Decide whether the conventional DCS578B or the DCS577B’s rear-handle, left-blade arrangement better fits your work habits; specifications do not settle personal handling preference.
- Verify the box contents. Check the full model number and confirm whether batteries, charger, and bag are included.
- Use the current manual. Follow the model-specific instructions for setup, guarding, workpiece support, and safe operation.
