Verdict: The Blink Mini 2 is still a capable, inexpensive wired camera for a fixed indoor view or a small, sheltered outdoor area. Its 1080p video, 143-degree view, spotlight and useful person detection make it easy to live with, especially in an Alexa household. The bargain is less convincing once you add the outdoor power adapter, cloud subscription or local-storage hub—and Blink’s current catalog now promotes the newer Mini 2K+.
Buy the Mini 2 in 2026 only when discounted, when you specifically want a tiny plug-in camera, and when Blink’s ecosystem suits you.
What the Blink Mini 2 is
The Mini 2 is a compact Wi-Fi camera powered continuously through USB-C and controlled in the Blink Home Monitor app. It is designed for a manually aimed, fixed view: there is no battery, remote pan-and-tilt or motorized tracking. It works indoors with the supplied indoor power setup. For outdoor installation, the camera body is weather-resistant, but you need Blink’s Weather Resistant Power Adapter to seal the USB-C connection. Blink’s support hub and specifications are at Blink’s Mini 2 support page and technical specifications.
The camera is compatible with Alexa. The reviewed coverage found no official Apple HomeKit or Google Home support, so it is a weaker fit for households committed to those platforms.

What changed from the original Mini?
- A 143-degree diagonal field of view, compared with 110 degrees on the original Mini (PCWorld).
- A weatherized camera design and an optional outdoor power adapter.
- A built-in LED spotlight and color night viewing when there is enough illumination.
- Person detection and improved low-light performance.
- The same basic 1080p class of video, privacy zones and activity zones.
These are meaningful usability upgrades, not a guarantee of dramatically sharper footage. WIRED found the image crisp and improved, while TechRadar reported grain, motion pixelation and merely adequate audio (WIRED; TechRadar).
Outdoor use: what “works outdoors” really means
The Mini 2 is reported as IP65-rated, meaning protection from dust and water jets. That rating applies to the camera when installed correctly; it does not make the standard indoor cable an outdoor installation solution. The Weather Resistant Power Adapter seals the power connection and is reported at approximately 13 feet, versus approximately 6.5 feet for the standard cable (WIRED).
You still need a nearby AC outlet, a safe cable route and a strong Wi-Fi signal. Mount the camera under shelter where practical, keep the outlet and connection protected, and remember that a fixed 143-degree view cannot follow a person or cover a large property. The camera is suitable for a porch, doorway or short side path—not as a wire-free replacement for a wide-area outdoor system. Blink’s outdoor-adapter requirement is also described by Tom’s Guide.
Video, night vision and audio
Daylight footage
The Mini 2 records up to 1080p and up to 30 frames per second according to WIRED, with a 143-degree diagonal view. At close range, daylight footage can show a person’s clothing and large text. That is enough for room, pet, nursery, entryway and short-range porch monitoring.

Night and motion
Infrared night vision handles dark scenes, while the spotlight can add color and close-range detail. In practice, the camera is better for seeing that something happened than for reliably identifying a distant face or license plate. Motion can look soft or pixelated, and reviewers differed on how impressive the overall image was. Distance, lighting, movement, Wi-Fi and the selected quality setting all matter; “1080p” alone does not promise forensic detail.
Two-way audio
Two-way audio is usable for a brief conversation, but it is not a standout feature. Outdoor wind and weather can make it less intelligible.
Person detection and motion alerts
Person detection is one of the Mini 2’s most useful additions. Reviewers found it can reduce alerts caused by ordinary motion, although results were not perfect: some events began before recording, and higher sensitivity sometimes classified cats as people (WIRED).
It identifies a person-shaped event; it does not recognize a named individual. It also does not provide every object category offered by competing cameras, such as package, animal or vehicle alerts. Tune sensitivity and activity zones for the scene. Trees, shadows, reflections, pets and a busy street can still create false notifications.

Price, subscriptions and the real ownership cost
The following are historical U.S. prices reported in reviews, not guaranteed October 2026 prices. Check the live listing before buying. Blink’s current catalog now emphasizes newer products, including the Mini 2K+ (Blink products and plans).
| Use case | What you need |
|---|---|
| Indoor live viewing | Mini 2 with indoor power supply |
| Indoor cloud recording and person detection | Camera plus historical Blink Basic pricing of $3 monthly or $30 annually for one camera |
| Outdoor installation | Camera plus Weather Resistant Power Adapter; the adapter was historically about $9.99 separately, with a camera bundle reported around $49.98 |
| Outdoor cloud recording | Camera, outdoor adapter and Blink Basic |
| Local recording | Camera, Sync Module 2 and a compatible USB drive |
| Several Blink cameras | Hardware plus historical Blink Plus pricing of $10 monthly or $100 annually for unlimited cameras |
Reviewers reported a historical $39.99 camera price with the indoor supply and a 30-day subscription trial (WIRED; PCWorld). Treat those figures as dated reference points rather than current offers.
What works without a subscription?
You can view live video, receive motion notifications and use local storage with a separately purchased Sync Module 2 and compatible USB drive. Reviewers reported live views of up to five minutes at a time and manual backup rather than the full cloud workflow. Person detection, cloud recording, motion-triggered recording, live-view recording, sharing, rapid access and video history—including the 60-day history described for U.S. plans—are subscription features in the reviewed coverage (WIRED).
Local storage avoids a recurring cloud fee but is not a completely frictionless premium experience: it adds a hub and USB-drive management, while some detection and convenience features remain limited.

Setup and positioning
- Install the Blink Home Monitor app and sign in or create a Blink account.
- Power the camera and scan the QR code on its back.
- Allow the app to access the local Wi-Fi network and follow its connection prompts.
- Position the camera manually, keeping the intended subject within the fixed view.
- Set motion sensitivity, activity zones, privacy zones, video quality, clip length and retrigger delay.
The normal setup is quick, although reviewers encountered an occasional phone-to-camera Wi-Fi glitch and app issues. Use Blink’s official setup guide. Test Wi-Fi at the final mounting point; WIRED cited approximately 3 Mbps as a location guideline, not a universal guarantee.
Privacy and smart-home limitations
The app can disable feeds and define privacy zones, and the app supports a biometric lock according to reviewed coverage. There is no physical privacy shutter. Unplugging the camera is the clearest hard cutoff (TechRadar). Alexa integration is a practical advantage; the absence of official HomeKit and Google Home support is a significant drawback for other ecosystems.
Mini 2 versus newer Blink products
Blink’s current catalog lists several newer directions (official catalog):
| Model | What it addresses | Catalog price signal |
|---|---|---|
| Mini 2K+ | Newer compact plug-in camera with 2K positioning | From $49.99, as listed by Blink |
| Mini Pan-Tilt | Remote movement and whole-room indoor coverage | From $39.99, as listed by Blink |
| Outdoor 2K+ | Wire-free outdoor installation and higher-resolution video | From $99.99, as listed by Blink |
| Wired Floodlight and Outdoor 4 Floodlight cameras | Purpose-built outdoor lighting and broader coverage options | Catalog pricing varies |
The Mini 2 is therefore most defensible as discounted older stock. Confirm that a third-party listing includes the expected power supply, is new and has appropriate warranty coverage.
