If your High Tech Pet Power Pet door will not open, first test the manual button, then check the collar’s test light and identify whether range trouble affects one sensor or both. Those simple observations help you match the symptom to the manufacturer’s troubleshooting guidance without guessing at a replacement part.
Start with three checks before replacing parts
- Test the manual button. Note whether the door opens from its manual control. If it works but a collar does not trigger the door, follow the collar-and-sensor guidance below. If neither manual control nor collars work, the manual lists the main circuit board as a possible replacement and the problem is a repair escalation.
- Check the collar test light. Press the collar’s battery test button. The High Tech Pet instructions say its red LED illuminates when the battery is OK. If it does not illuminate, confirm the collar model and battery before replacing anything.
- Observe the exact symptom. For poor range, determine whether one sensor or both are affected. For movement issues, distinguish slow upward travel from sticking at the top or repeatedly moving up and down; the manual lists different possible remedies for each.

Check the collar battery by model
MS-5 collar
For an MS-5, the manual specifies the B3V1A battery as the only compatible battery. Do not substitute a different battery based on appearance or a general collar-battery recommendation. If a correctly identified MS-5 collar has a dead test light or still will not trigger the door after the battery issue is addressed, the manual also lists collar replacement as a possibility.

MS-4 collar
The manual provides a separate battery replacement procedure for the MS-4; it does not extend the MS-5-only B3V1A compatibility statement to the MS-4. Check the instructions for the exact collar model rather than applying the MS-5 battery specification to both.
High Tech Pet’s operating instructions state that an MS-4 or MS-5 transmitter collar operates for 3 to 5 months on a replaceable battery. The manual copy’s year is not stated, and this is a manufacturer figure, not a guaranteed lifespan for an individual collar or pattern of use. A red test light is the manual’s check that the battery is OK.

When to seek repair help
If the manual’s first listed check does not resolve the symptom—or the symptom points to a harness, sensor cable, motor assembly, or circuit board—use the exact model and observed behavior when contacting High Tech Pet or a repair provider. The troubleshooting table identifies possible replacement components but does not provide a non-invasive test to confirm which one has failed. Do not buy a board or motor solely because a symptom resembles one row; verify part compatibility for your door revision first.
