What Homeowners Should Do About the Recalled Woolite Delicates Detergent

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Woolite recall homeowners need to check is narrow, but it deserves a careful response. The recalled product is Woolite Delicates Detergent, 50 fl oz, in a white bottle with a light pink label and cap. The affected SKU is 62338-72724, and the affected lot codes are S24364, S24365, and S24366. The lot code is printed at the top of the back of the bottle. The product was sold exclusively on Amazon.com in January 2025 for about $14 to $17.

The recall was announced on March 20, 2025 by the CPSC and Reckitt. About 16,200 bottles were included because the detergent may contain Pseudomonas species bacteria, including Pseudomonas oleovorans. No incidents or injuries were reported in the recall notice, but the remedy is still clear: stop using the recalled detergent and contact Reckitt for a refund.

From a home-care standpoint, the recall is also a useful reminder: laundry rooms are small utility spaces with water, heat, electrical devices, chemical storage, floor seams, cabinets, hoses, and drains all packed together. On our job sites, the expensive problems rarely start with one bottle of detergent. They start when a spill sits in particleboard, a washer hose is hidden behind stacked appliances, a floor pan was never installed, or a utility cabinet blocks the shutoff valves.

Check These Three Things First

  • SKU: 62338-72724.
  • Lot codes: S24364, S24365, or S24366, printed near the top of the back of the bottle.
  • Purchase window: Amazon.com purchase in January 2025.

If all three match, stop using the detergent. If the bottle is leaking, do not squeeze it, shake it, pour it into another container, or rinse it down a drain.

Which Woolite Product Was Recalled?

The recall applies to a specific batch of Woolite Delicates Detergent, 50 fl oz. It does not apply to every Woolite product, every bottle size, or every retailer. That distinction matters because many recall mistakes start with overcorrecting in one direction or underreacting in the other.

Use this checklist before you handle the bottle more than necessary:

  • Product name: Woolite Delicates Detergent.
  • Bottle size: 50 fl oz.
  • Appearance: white bottle, light pink label, light pink cap.
  • SKU: 62338-72724.
  • Lot codes: S24364, S24365, S24366.
  • Sold through: Amazon.com only.
  • Sale timing: January 2025.
  • Recall date: March 20, 2025.
  • Approximate units affected: 16,200 bottles.

If the label is damaged or the lot code is hard to read, do not try to scrape or wash the bottle to inspect it. Put on disposable gloves, place the bottle in a clear bag or on a washable tray, and photograph the bottle from several angles. Reckitt’s recall remedy directs consumers to mark the bottle with their name and the word “Recalled,” photograph the UPC and lot code, and email [email protected] for refund instructions.

Why Bacteria in Laundry Detergent Is a Real Concern

The recall hazard is possible contamination with Pseudomonas species bacteria. Pseudomonas organisms are commonly found in soil and water. In a healthy household, exposure may not lead to illness, but that does not make the product acceptable to use. The higher-risk group includes people with weakened immune systems and people with external medical devices. Bacteria can enter the body through the eyes or broken skin.

For most homeowners, the right mindset is controlled handling, not panic. The detergent is not something to aerosolize, splash, pour, or spread around a laundry area. Treat it like a questionable cleaning product: contain it, document it, keep it away from vulnerable household members, and follow the recall process.

Extra Precautions for Immunocompromised Households

If someone in the home has a weakened immune system, open wounds, an external medical device, or a recent surgery, use a no-contact approach. Have another adult handle the bottle. Wear disposable gloves. Bag the container before moving it through the house. Avoid handling it near towels, bedding, medical supplies, children’s laundry, or pet items.

If the bottle leaked in a cabinet or onto a shelf, keep the vulnerable resident out of the laundry area until the shelf has been cleaned and ventilated. If liquid reached unfinished wood, drywall, flooring seams, or the subfloor, call a remediation professional or qualified contractor. Porous building materials can hold moisture and residue longer than they appear to on the surface.

What To Do If You Have the Recalled Detergent

Start with a simple, low-splash process. On our projects, we treat chemical cleanup the same way we treat small water events: first stop the spread, then document, then clean the surfaces that can actually be cleaned.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Stop using it immediately. Do not run another load with the recalled detergent.
  2. Put on disposable gloves. If the bottle is wet or sticky, use eye protection as well.
  3. Place the bottle in secondary containment. A plastic bin, dishpan, zip-top bag, or lined bucket works. Keep it upright.
  4. Mark the bottle. Write your name and “Recalled” on the bottle as Reckitt instructs.
  5. Photograph the UPC and lot code. Take clear photos before bagging if it can be done without splashing.
  6. Email Reckitt. Send the required recall information to [email protected].
  7. Clean the storage area. Wipe nonporous surfaces, discard saturated porous liners, and ventilate the room.

Do not transfer the detergent into another bottle. Decanting a recalled product creates a second unlabeled container, which is one of the most common safety problems we see in garages, utility rooms, and laundry closets. If a product must ever be decanted in normal use, the secondary bottle needs the product name, date, and hazard notes. For a recalled product, do not decant it at all.

To dry, squeeze excess water from the fabric. Do not wring your delicates. Dry flat on a drying board or dry towel.

Can You Pour Recalled Detergent Down the Drain?

No. Do not pour recalled detergent into a sink, toilet, floor drain, storm drain, sump pit, or septic system unless the recall handler or your local waste authority specifically instructs you to do so. Questionable cleaning products should not be treated like ordinary rinse water. Pouring the detergent can spread contamination, create splash exposure, and move chemicals into plumbing or wastewater systems unnecessarily.

For disposal questions, follow Reckitt’s recall instructions first. If you are left with a leaking container, contaminated rags, or saturated cabinet liners, check your local household hazardous waste guidance. Many communities handle cleaning products differently depending on container condition, ingredients, and volume. A single 50 fl oz bottle is small, but the right answer still depends on whether the product is sealed, leaking, mixed with absorbent material, or sitting in a damaged cabinet.

If the Bottle Leaked in a Cabinet or Laundry Closet

A detergent leak is not just a cleaning task. It can become a small building-material problem if it reaches porous surfaces. Laundry cabinets often use melamine over particleboard, MDF panels, painted trim, vinyl plank flooring, laminate, or caulked floor seams. Some clean well. Some swell, trap residue, or hide moisture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Step-by-Step Cleanup

  1. Isolate the area. Keep children, pets, and vulnerable residents away from the laundry room.
  2. Photograph the leak. Capture the bottle, shelf, floor, and any damaged materials before cleanup.
  3. Remove nearby items. Bag anything with detergent residue. Do not place contaminated items on kitchen counters or upholstered furniture.
  4. Wipe nonporous surfaces. Use disposable towels on plastic trays, sealed shelves, finished laminate, and metal wire shelving.
  5. Discard saturated porous liners. Paper, cardboard, fabric mats, raw wood shims, and swollen shelf liners are not worth saving.
  6. Ventilate the space. Run the exhaust fan if present, open a nearby window if practical, and avoid blowing air directly across the spill.
  7. Inspect edges and seams. Check base trim, cabinet toe kicks, flooring seams, drywall corners, and the washer pan area.

Call a professional if detergent or rinse water reached drywall, subfloor, unfinished wood, insulation, or a ceiling below the laundry room. Also call if you see swelling at cabinet bottoms, soft trim, persistent odor, staining under vinyl plank seams, or moisture readings that stay elevated after 24 to 48 hours.

Do You Need To Clean the Washer?

If you used the recalled detergent, stop using it and inspect the washer before running normal laundry. For many households, one empty hot cycle or washer cleaning cycle may be reasonable after the recalled product is removed, but do not treat that as medical or contamination clearance. If a vulnerable person’s clothing, wound dressings, towels, bedding, or medical textiles were washed with the recalled product, ask a healthcare professional for exposure guidance.

From a maintenance standpoint, remove detergent residue from the dispenser tray, wipe the door gasket on front-load machines, and leave the door open long enough for the tub and gasket to dry. Do not mix cleaning chemicals in the washer. In particular, avoid improvising with bleach, vinegar, ammonia, disinfectants, or specialty cleaners in the same cycle unless the washer manufacturer’s instructions allow it.

Laundry-Room Storage That Prevents Small Problems From Becoming Repairs

Good laundry-room storage is boring in the best way. It keeps chemicals upright, contained, labeled, visible, and away from water-sensitive materials. In remodels, we prefer storage that can take a spill without turning into a cabinet replacement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use these standards for a practical laundry setup:

  • Store detergents in secondary containment. A plastic tray with a 1 to 2 inch lip is enough for most bottles.
  • Keep products off the floor. Floor storage increases the chance of kicks, leaks, blocked drains, and hidden moisture.
  • Use washable liners. Choose plastic, rubber, or removable trays instead of paper or fabric shelf liners.
  • Avoid raw particleboard in damp zones. Use melamine, sealed plywood, PVC, composite trim, or properly finished cabinet interiors.
  • Keep labels visible. Do not store cleaners in drink bottles, unlabeled jars, or old detergent containers.
  • Keep shutoffs accessible. Valves should be visible and reachable without unloading a cabinet.
  • Separate products from heat and air movement. Store detergent away from dryer heat, electrical panels, HVAC returns, and food or pet supplies.

Raised shelves are usually better than deep base cabinets in tight laundry closets because spills are easier to see. If we build base storage near a washer, we use a removable liner and leave enough toe-kick or side clearance to inspect the floor.

Cost Guide: Recall Response and Laundry-Room Upgrades

The recalled detergent itself was sold for about $14 to $17, so the refund is not the expensive part. The bigger costs come from leaks, bad storage, water damage, or utility upgrades that were already overdue. The table below uses 2026 U.S. cost ranges from the research pack and common field conditions.

When To DIY and When To Hire a Pro

Most homeowners can handle the recall check and basic containment themselves. A professional makes sense when the issue crosses from product handling into plumbing, electrical, ventilation, cabinetry, or moisture-damaged building materials.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

DIY Is Reasonable When

  • The bottle is intact and not leaking.
  • You can photograph the UPC and lot code without splashing.
  • The shelf is plastic, sealed laminate, metal, or another nonporous surface.
  • Cleanup is limited to wiping a tray or cabinet liner.
  • No one in the home is at high risk from bacterial exposure.
  • No liquid reached flooring seams, drywall, subfloor, trim, or unfinished wood.

Hire a Pro When

  • The bottle leaked into particleboard, MDF, drywall, base trim, subfloor, or ceiling material below.
  • The laundry room has a history of moisture, musty odor, or soft flooring.
  • You need a new laundry sink, washer pan drain, shutoff valves, or relocated plumbing.
  • You need electrical work, including receptacle changes or GFCI protection updates.
  • The dryer vent is crushed, inaccessible, too long, or discharging into the wrong location.
  • The washer and dryer cannot be pulled out safely for inspection or service.

We also recommend a pro when stacked machines are tightly installed in a closet and there is no safe way to move them without damaging hoses, ducts, flooring, or wall finishes. A service clearance problem is not just inconvenient. It turns a 10-minute inspection into a water-damage risk.

Safety, Electrical, Ventilation, and Permit Notes

A laundry room combines wet-use appliances with electrical loads and mechanical exhaust. That is why cosmetic upgrades should not outrun basic utility safety. A new cabinet wall looks good, but it should not bury shutoffs, pinch a dryer duct, or block a receptacle that needs service access.

For electrical safety, laundry areas commonly require GFCI protection under modern code practice. If you are changing receptacles, adding circuits, moving appliances, or remodeling walls, have a licensed electrician verify the local requirement. Do not use a cabinet, shelf, or detergent tray to crowd an outlet, cord, or panel clearance.

For dryer ventilation, the dryer transition duct should remain accessible and should not be crushed behind storage. Exhaust systems need correct routing, termination, and support. If you are adding cabinets above machines, confirm that the duct can still be inspected and cleaned. Dryer-vent cleaning is often a better safety upgrade than another shelf.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For plumbing, keep hot and cold washer valves visible. Quarter-turn shutoffs are easier to operate than old multi-turn valves, especially in an emergency. Braided stainless washer hoses, a properly sized washer pan, and a water leak sensor near the machine are inexpensive compared with flooring, drywall, and ceiling repairs.

Permit rules are local. Many jurisdictions separate building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical permits. A shelf installation may not need a permit. Moving a laundry sink, adding a drain, changing circuits, altering dryer vent routing, or opening walls often does. In 2026 examples, permit fees commonly range from about $100 to $800 depending on the trade and scope, but your city or county has the final say.

A Better Laundry-Room Checklist After the Recall

Once the recalled bottle is handled, spend 20 minutes looking at the laundry room like a builder would. The goal is to reduce the chance that the next spill, leak, or blocked duct becomes a repair call.

For a compact laundry closet, even 2 inches of planning matters. Leave hand space around valves. Do not install fixed shelving so low that the washer lid hits it. Bottom Line

The Woolite Delicates recall is limited to specific 50 fl oz bottles with SKU 62338-72724 and lot codes S24364, S24365, or S24366 sold on Amazon.com in January 2025. If your bottle matches, stop using it, contain it, photograph it, mark it as recalled, and contact Reckitt for the refund process.

Do not pour the detergent down a drain. Do not keep using it because there were no reported injuries. And if it leaked, treat the laundry cabinet and surrounding finishes as part of the problem, not just the bottle. A clean, dry, accessible laundry room with contained storage, reachable shutoffs, a leak sensor, sound hoses, and a serviceable dryer duct is the kind of practical home improvement that prevents expensive damage later.
