In 2026, however, the original Myfox system is best treated as legacy hardware—not a normal current-buy recommendation.
Buy used equipment only if it is very inexpensive, works with the currently supported app and service in your country, can be transferred out of the seller’s account, and passes a live test. For a new security installation, a current Somfy, Ring, SimpliSafe, Abode, or local-storage camera system is generally the safer choice.
What exactly is the Myfox system?
“Myfox Home Alarm & Security Camera” can describe several configurations: the original Home Alarm kit, the separate Myfox Security Camera, a bundle containing both, or later Myfox-badged and Somfy-branded hardware using the Somfy Protect ecosystem. It should not automatically be confused with older Myfox Home Control products, which belong to a different product family.
The original alarm kit typically included a Wi-Fi bridge or hub, a 110 dB siren, a Bluetooth Low Energy key fob, and one IntelliTag door or window sensor. The camera was sold separately or included in selected bundles, depending on the market. Package contents varied by country; historical launch coverage listed a U.S. alarm price of $279, a U.S. camera price of $199, and a U.K. alarm price of £249. These are launch-era figures, not current prices. (TechHive launch coverage; Tech Advisor review)

Availability and support in 2026
The original Myfox-branded system is primarily a second-hand or discounted purchase in 2026. Somfy’s current documentation still lists compatibility with Myfox Home Alarm hardware, and Somfy remains the relevant modern ecosystem for supported Home Alarm products. That does not prove that every Myfox device, revision, accessory, or country configuration remains fully supported.
A response on Somfy’s support forum says that the Myfox Security app is no longer maintained for Home Alarm products and recommends Somfy Protect instead. This is support-forum guidance rather than a formal global end-of-life bulletin, so it should not be interpreted as proof that every device has been shut down. The practical conclusion is more important: functionality depends on the exact model, region, account, application, firmware, and cloud service.
Somfy’s current app listing identifies Somfy Protect as the active app for supported Somfy alarm and camera products. Before buying used hardware, ask the seller to demonstrate the equipment using the current app available in your country—not merely an old APK, an archived application, or a device that powers on without registering.

Design and installation
Myfox’s hardware had an attractive, deliberately designed appearance rather than the utilitarian look common among early DIY alarm products. The system was wireless and app-led, which made it appealing for renters, small offices, and homeowners who wanted to avoid extensive cabling.
The trade-off was dependence on several layers working together: the bridge, Wi-Fi network, smartphone application, cloud registration, and the vendor account. Historical testing reported country-selection and app confusion during setup, along with a defective bridge and repeated camera-enrollment failures. Those reports are important failure modes, but they are individual test experiences—not evidence of a measured product-wide defect rate. (TechHive hands-on review)

Modern routers can introduce additional problems. The relevant equipment was designed around older Wi-Fi assumptions, including 802.11 b/g/n and generally 2.4 GHz operation. Band steering, WPA3-only security, mesh-client isolation, unusual DNS rules, and firewall restrictions can prevent discovery or registration. For troubleshooting, temporarily create a simple 2.4 GHz network with conventional WPA2 security, keep the bridge near the router, and follow the current Somfy instructions for the exact model.
Camera performance
What it did well
- 720p HD video that historical testing found clearer than expected.
- A 130-degree wide-angle view that reduced blind spots indoors.
- Night vision suitable for basic room monitoring.
- A built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio.
- A physical privacy shutter, a valuable feature for an indoor camera.
- Standalone operation or integration with the alarm system.
The privacy shutter is still one of the camera’s most persuasive design details. It gives occupants a visible mechanical indication that the lens is covered, rather than requiring trust in an app setting alone.

720p is low resolution by 2026 standards. Current camera buyers commonly expect 2K or 4K options, better low-light performance, richer detection controls, and more flexible recording. The original camera’s image quality may remain adequate for seeing whether someone entered a room, but it is not competitive with modern cameras for identifying faces at distance or inspecting fine detail.
Later Somfy Security Camera documentation describes features including a one-hour backup battery, 10-second motion clips retained for one day, optional continuous recording for up to seven days, encrypted video transfer and storage, and Myfox Home Alarm compatibility. These specifications belong to the documented Somfy camera configuration and should not automatically be assumed to describe every original Myfox camera revision. Alarm performance
Strengths
- Very loud siren: The 110 dB rating was a notable selling point, and historical testing found it exceptionally loud.
- IntelliTag: The sensor attempted to detect vibration or impact as well as an opening event, rather than acting only as a conventional magnetic contact.
- Convenient arming: The key fob could automate arming and disarming when household members arrived or left.
- Wireless expansion: The system could support additional sensors and accessories, subject to the limits of the specific generation.
- Backup power: Historical documentation described battery backup for key components, though the condition of batteries in used equipment is now a major concern.
Limitations
The starter kit covered only a small number of openings. Expanding it across multiple doors and windows required additional proprietary sensors and key fobs, which could make the complete system expensive even when the base kit was cheap.
IntelliTag’s vibration approach is not identical to a simple door-contact sensor. It may not provide the same straightforward “open” or “closed” status, and results can depend on door construction, mounting position, pets, household movement, and how strongly a door or window vibrates. Some buyers will prefer the predictability of conventional contacts.

The siren’s loudness is useful for deterrence, but 110 dB is not emergency response. It does not contact police, firefighters, or a monitoring center by itself. A battery-backed siren also does not guarantee remote alerts during an internet outage: local operation and cloud notifications are separate functions.
Historical review material cited approximately six hours of bridge backup and approximately one hour for the camera in the documented configuration. Those were review-era claims, not a guarantee for an aging unit in 2026. Replaceable or internal batteries, power adapters, and the bridge should all be treated as potential failure points. (TechHive review)
App, cloud, and subscription considerations
Do not assume that a Myfox system is either subscription-free or fully local. Different services have different roles:
- Local siren: May operate when the hub and sensors can communicate locally.
- Smartphone alerts: Depend on account registration, internet access, app permissions, and cloud availability.
- Video recording: May depend on the relevant cloud plan and camera generation.
- Professional monitoring: Historical U.S. coverage reported optional monitoring at about $10 per month in 2016. That is not a current 2026 price.
No current Myfox monitoring or recording price was verified here. Check the official Somfy storefront and support pages for the buyer’s country before relying on any subscription or storage feature.
Cloud dependence also creates a long-term ownership risk. Even if the hardware remains physically sound, a change in account rules, app support, servers, or regional availability can make it impractical. An old camera that has received few recent firmware updates also deserves more caution than a current product with an active support lifecycle.
Privacy and security
The privacy shutter is a genuine advantage for indoor use. Somfy’s later technical documentation also describes encrypted video transfer and storage, but that claim should be attributed to the relevant Somfy camera documentation rather than generalized to every original Myfox revision.

Encryption does not eliminate the broader risks of cloud cameras. Video, account credentials, alerts, and device registration remain dependent on the vendor’s service. Used buyers should ensure the previous owner removes the system from their account, reset the hardware properly, use a unique password, enable available two-factor authentication, and verify that notifications go only to the new owner.
Used-buying checklist
Do not value a second-hand Myfox system as operational until the seller demonstrates all of the following:
Recommended Free Tools
- The bridge or hub powers on and completes registration.
- The siren can be armed and triggered.
- The key fob is recognized.
- An IntelliTag reports an event.
- The camera produces a live feed.
- Motion alerts arrive on a current phone.
- The seller removes the equipment from their account.
- You can register it in your own country and region.
- The current supported app recognizes the hardware.
- All proprietary power adapters, mounting parts, and battery compartments are included.
If any test fails, price the equipment as untested used electronics—not as a functioning security system. A camera that powers on but cannot be added may have an account, region, firmware, server, or hardware problem. Repeating factory resets will not necessarily fix those issues.

- You cannot test the equipment before payment.
- You are protecting a family home and want a long support lifecycle.
Alternatives worth considering
| Use case | More appropriate direction | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Continuing with Myfox accessories | Current Somfy Home Alarm | The closest migration path; Somfy documentation explicitly lists Myfox Home Alarm compatibility, subject to model and region. |
| Alexa/Ring household | Ring Alarm and cameras | Broad consumer availability and strong ecosystem integration, but cloud and optional subscription dependence should be considered. |
| DIY alarm with monitoring | SimpliSafe | More focused on professionally monitored DIY security than the original Myfox system. |
| Smart-home flexibility | Abode | A stronger candidate when integrations and flexible alarm configurations matter. |
| Camera-first, local-storage setup | Eufy or Reolink | Better suited to buyers prioritizing modern video and local recording rather than a monitored intrusion alarm. |
Availability, compatibility, subscriptions, and prices vary by country and should be checked on the relevant official storefront immediately before purchase.
Final verdict
Myfox Home Alarm and Security Camera deserve credit for combining attractive hardware, a powerful siren, a clever vibration sensor, wide-angle video, night vision, two-way audio, and a useful privacy shutter. Historical reviews also exposed real setup friction, expensive expansion, battery concerns, and occasional hardware or enrollment failures. (Tech Advisor; Digital Trends)
In 2026, the decisive question is no longer whether the original hardware was innovative. It is whether a particular unit can still register, pair, notify, record, and transfer accounts through the current supported ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Myfox Home Alarm still work in 2026?
Some Myfox Home Alarm hardware may still function, but support depends on the exact model, country, app, account, firmware, and cloud service. Test registration, alarm control, live video, notifications, and account transfer before buying.
Does Myfox use the Somfy Protect app?
Somfy support guidance says the Myfox Security app is no longer maintained for Home Alarm products and recommends Somfy Protect. Confirm the exact app and compatibility for your country and hardware revision.
Is the original Myfox camera good by modern standards?
It can still provide useful indoor monitoring, but its 720p resolution is dated compared with current 2K and 4K cameras. Its privacy shutter, wide-angle lens, night vision, and two-way audio remain useful.
Does Myfox require a subscription?
Services differ by configuration. Local siren operation, smartphone alerts, cloud recording, and professional monitoring are separate functions. Historical coverage mentioned optional monitoring at about $10 per month in 2016; do not treat that as a current price.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Myfox is an interesting legacy system, not a safe default for a new 2026 installation. Consider it only as a thoroughly tested bargain or an interim system for an existing owner.
