The best iced coffee maker depends on the drink you want. For traditional, smooth refrigerator cold brew, the Hario Mizudashi is the simplest and best-value choice. For iced lattes and a wide range of café-style drinks, the De’Longhi Eletta Explore is the most automated option. The Ninja Luxe Café Premier Series is the strongest all-in-one compromise, while the Cumulus Cold Brew Machine is built around speed and pod convenience.
This list comes from the six products selected and tested in a Rolling Stone roundup syndicated by Yahoo Shopping, published July 16, 2025. The machines do not all make the same beverage: some produce immersion cold brew, some make iced espresso or coffee brewed over ice, and others make a cold-brew-style drink.

Iced coffee usually means coffee brewed hot and served over ice. A well-designed machine may brew it more strongly to compensate for dilution, or flash-chill the coffee quickly.

Cold brew is different: coffee grounds steep in cool or room-temperature water for an extended period, generally producing a smoother, less acidic concentrate. A machine’s “cold brew” button does not automatically mean it uses this traditional immersion method.
Iced espresso drinks use espresso poured over ice, often with milk. They are fast and intense, but they are not the same as overnight cold brew. Nitrogen or cold-foam systems add texture and presentation without necessarily making conventional cold brew.
How the six recommendations were assessed
The original publication says its editors evaluated brew quality, strength, ease of use, digital features and value across automatic machines, cold-brew carafes and hot-and-cold systems. Its published material does not provide a single standardized recipe, measured serving temperature, consistent brew-time table, per-cup cost comparison or complete cleaning-time log for all six products. The results below therefore report that publication’s hands-on conclusions rather than claiming independent testing.
A more comparable scoring framework would weight drink quality at 30%, method suitability at 20%, ease of use at 15%, speed at 10%, cleanup at 10%, versatility at 10% and price or running costs at 5%. That framework matters because a $25 pitcher should be judged primarily on cold-brew quality and simplicity, not on features available only from a $2,000 beverage system.
1. De’Longhi Eletta Explore with Cold Brew
Best for: maximum automation and café-style variety.
The Eletta Explore is a fully automatic bean-to-cup machine with an integrated grinder, Bean Adapt technology, cold-brew extraction, iced espresso and hot and cold milk systems. The source describes more than 50 hot and cold recipes, including iced cappuccinos, iced lattes and cold brew. See the official De’Longhi site for current specifications and availability.
Its advantage is breadth: grind, brew and milk preparation can be handled from one system, making it a strong fit for households with different drink preferences. Its disadvantages are equally clear. It costs far more than a dedicated cold-brew pitcher, takes substantial counter space and requires regular attention to the brew path, grinder, drip tray, grounds container and milk equipment. The two-carafe milk arrangement may also be inconvenient.

Important qualification: treat its cold-brew preset as the manufacturer’s defined cold-brew process, not automatically as identical to long-steeped immersion cold brew.
Buy it if: you want the broadest menu with minimal manual work. Skip it if: you mainly want inexpensive traditional cold brew.
2. Ninja Luxe Café Premier Series
Best for: an all-in-one balance of espresso, coffee and cold drinks.
The Ninja combines espresso, coffee and cold-brew modes with an integrated conical burr grinder, built-in scale, 25 grind settings, automatic grind recommendations, a steam wand and accessories including a dosing funnel, tamper, portafilter and multiple baskets. Its automatic milk steaming and dosing assistance can help beginners, but the portafilter workflow still involves grinding, tamping, brewing and cleaning. The machine is also large and heavy.
The Independent’s testing found that its cold brew tasted closer to an iced Americano than mellow, traditional cold brew. That makes it particularly appealing for iced espresso drinks and versatility, not for someone whose sole priority is refrigerator-steeped cold brew.
Buy it if: you want one relatively flexible system and enjoy some hands-on control. Skip it if: you want one-touch operation or only drink classic cold brew.

3. Breville Oracle Jet
Best for: luxury espresso preparation and iced espresso drinks.
The Oracle Jet is the luxury pick in the source roundup. The available material provides fewer product-specific details about its cold-drink performance than it does for the other recommendations, so its ranking should be understood as the source publication’s judgment rather than a fully audited comparison.
It is best considered an espresso-centered premium machine. Before buying, confirm whether the exact U.S. model offers a dedicated cold-brew process or primarily supports iced espresso, along with current grinder, dosing, milk, cleaning, warranty and dimension information. The official Breville site should be used for those current specifications.
Buy it if: advanced espresso preparation is more important than traditional cold brew. Skip it if: you are paying a premium solely for overnight-style cold brew.
4. Hario Mizudashi Cold Brew Coffee Maker
Best for: traditional cold brew at the lowest purchase cost.
The Hario Mizudashi is a passive immersion brewer: add coffee and water, refrigerate it, then remove the basket before serving. Hario’s U.S. page describes a removable fine-mesh basket, glass construction and 600-milliliter or 1,000-milliliter versions. When checked, the page listed a price of $25.50 but showed the product as sold out, so verify stock at the official Hario product page.
- Add coarsely ground coffee to the mesh basket.
- Fill the vessel with water.
- Refrigerate for the manufacturer’s recommended steeping period.
- Remove the basket when the desired strength is reached.
- Serve over ice, or dilute with water or milk.
The exact steeping time and coffee ratio should follow the current instructions for your model rather than a universal recipe. Coarse, fresh coffee, suitable water and controlled dilution are more important than adding equipment.

5. De’Longhi La Specialista Touch with Cold Brew
Best for: hands-on espresso preparation with a cold-brew-style option.

The source says its cold process cools water before slowly passing it through coffee at low pressure, producing a drink with a thinner mouthfeel than conventional cold brew.
That makes it an espresso-first machine rather than a dedicated cold-brew brewer. It offers more involvement and control than the Eletta Explore, but also more opportunities for inconsistency. Reported drawbacks include difficult grind adjustment and inconvenient hopper cleaning.
Buy it if: you enjoy dialing in beans and want iced espresso drinks plus a cold option. Skip it if: you want the simplest possible workflow or a classic immersion brew.

The main advantage is speed: there is no long refrigerator steep and little grinding or measuring. The trade-off is control and cost. The source reported pods at approximately $2.50 each; that is a dated figure that should be verified on Cumulus’s current site, including shipping, subscriptions and bundle discounts.
Buy it if: fast, repeatable, pre-chilled drinks matter most. Skip it if: you drink several cups daily, want to choose your own beans or prefer classic cold-brew flavor.
Which one should you buy?
- Traditional cold brew: Hario Mizudashi.
- Fast iced coffee: Choose a flash-chill, brew-over-ice or espresso-over-ice system; the Hario is not suitable for immediate drinks.

- Lowest purchase cost: A manual immersion pitcher such as the Hario.
- Lowest ongoing cost: A reusable pitcher with ground coffee generally avoids capsule costs, though beans, filters and cleaning supplies still cost money.
- Minimum effort and no grinding: Cumulus, provided pod availability and recurring cost suit you.
- Maximum espresso control: Breville Oracle Jet or De’Longhi La Specialista Touch, depending on the exact features and workflow you want.
Costs beyond the purchase price
Budget for beans or pods, replacement filters, descaling solution, milk-system cleaner, electricity and—on automatic machines—possible service or replacement parts. A manual pitcher needs refrigerator space and washing but little else. Pod machines reduce preparation while increasing the cost of every drink. High-end machines buy automation, recipe breadth, integrated grinding and milk capability; they do not guarantee better cold-brew flavor.
How to avoid watery or bitter iced coffee
- Watery: brew a stronger concentrate, reduce excess ice or account for melting when setting the coffee-to-water ratio.
- Bitter: avoid an excessively fine grind, over-extraction, too much heat or holding hot coffee for too long.
- Weak cold brew: use enough coffee, allow the full recommended steep and dilute gradually.
- Muddy: use a coarser grind and adequate filtration.
- Disappointing milk foam: remember that cold-froth systems and hot steam wands behave differently; plant milks also vary by formulation.
Alternatives worth considering
A Keurig K-Brew + Chill is a better fit for ordinary K-Cup convenience and hot-to-iced switching than for traditional cold brew. The Independent reported that its cooling chamber needs several hours to charge and may produce only a limited number of chilled drinks before recharging. A basic immersion pitcher plus a conventional espresso machine can also provide better value for buyers who want both classic cold brew and greater espresso control without one expensive all-in-one system.
Cleaning and counter-space checklist
Before ordering an electric machine, measure its width, depth and height under cabinets. Also allow clearance to remove the water tank or hopper, and space for a milk carafe, portafilter, pitcher and accessories. Automatic espresso systems typically require brew-path cleaning, descaling, milk-system rinsing, grinder maintenance and emptying drip trays and grounds containers. A pitcher usually needs only the vessel and filter washed; pods are convenient but still require routine machine cleaning.
Availability changes. The Hario page showed sold-out status when checked, and prices from the 2025 articles may no longer apply in 2026. Confirm stock, warranty, shipping, subscriptions and replacement parts before purchase.
