The most useful Milwaukee PACKOUT mods make frequently used gear easier to reach, keep loose parts in order, or tailor a case to a specific tool. Check the fit and regional specifications for your particular PACKOUT setup before buying or modifying anything.
What counts as a PACKOUT mod?
PACKOUT modifications range from manufacturer-made attachments that connect to the outside of a stack to changes owners make to organize a case. Milwaukee said its system had more than 100 solutions in its 2024 US announcement; that is the manufacturer’s count of its product range, not an independent comparison. The exterior attachments are intended to put selected tools, batteries, and parts within reach without opening a toolbox or removing boxes.

Best for: keeping spare batteries visible and close
Milwaukee’s M18 and M12 PACKOUT battery racks clip batteries into storage on the side of a stack. Milwaukee says each rack stores up to three batteries from its respective system. That makes this a straightforward option when you want to reach a spare battery without opening a box.

Choose the rack for your battery platform; an M18 rack is for M18 batteries and an M12 rack is for M12 batteries. The stated capacity is up to three per rack, not a claim about how many batteries fit on any PACKOUT stack overall.
2. Carry long tools on the outside
Best for: levels, conduit benders, and similar long gear
Milwaukee’s long-tool attachment uses upper and lower mounts with spring-loaded gates to hold long items on the exterior of a stack. It is an official attachment, rather than a DIY bracket. The announced capacity and product details differ by region:

Milwaukee’s 2024 US announcement describes a Tool Box Compact Plate that supports side-mounted organizers, hooks, racks, and holders. Milwaukee lists a 30 lb capacity for that plate. Milwaukee Europe also lists a side-mount mounting plate and a three-hook rail, offering a modular way to arrange items on the side of a stack.

This is a manufacturer attachment setup, not a tested DIY build. Treat the plate’s stated capacity as specific to that product and region; it does not establish a safe load for a homemade rail, a different accessory combination, or a modified toolbox.
4. Add a hand-tool caddy or parts tray
Best for: quick access to hand tools and small parts
Milwaukee describes a caddy with adjustable dividers and belt-clip storage, as well as a tray for bins or bit cases. These official attachments can give frequently used hand tools or small parts a dedicated place on the stack, so they are accessible without opening a toolbox.

Milwaukee lists the insert for PACKOUT tool boxes and cases 48-22-8424, 48-22-8425, and 48-22-8450. Match your case model to that compatibility list; it does not establish that the insert fits every PACKOUT case.
