Verdict: The xTool F1 Ultra is a compact enclosed machine that combines a 20W blue diode laser with a 20W fiber laser. It is particularly useful for small businesses making personalized metal goods, branded merchandise, tags, plaques, jewelry, wood products and other small-batch items.
It is not, however, a replacement for a dedicated CO₂ or high-power diode cutter. Its 220 × 220 mm work area, galvo design and relatively modest cutting capability make it primarily an engraving and marking system with limited cutting ability. It makes the most sense when you genuinely need both metal and nonmetal processing in one machine.
What is the xTool F1 Ultra?
The F1 Ultra combines two different laser sources in one enclosed desktop machine:
- 20W blue diode laser: intended mainly for wood, bamboo, leather, paper, MDF, felt, fabric, slate, dark glass, ceramics, stone and selected dark or coated materials.
- 20W fiber laser: intended mainly for bare and coated metals, including stainless steel, aluminum, brass, silver, titanium and gold, as well as some plastics.
xTool specifies a diode wavelength of 445 ± 15 nm and a fiber wavelength of 1064 ± 5 nm. Those wavelengths explain the machine’s versatility: the two lasers are complementary, not interchangeable.
#1 Best Overall
- NOTE: This is xTool F1 Ultra, with 16mp camera, 20w fiber laser, support 3D emobossing engraving.
- Support Almost All Materials Ultra-Fast: Introducing the world's first 20W fiber and diode dual lasers, achieving speeds up to 10,000mm/s. The fiber laser can engrave all metals (gold, silver, copper, stainless steel, brass, titanium, etc.) in seconds, while the diode laser excels on wood, acrylic, leather, glass, rubber, fabric, and more.
- 3D Embossing and Deep Engraving: With 20W power in both fiber and diode lasers, the F1 Ultra laser engraving machine handles intricate, multi-level 3D engraving and deep engraving on various materials, including metal, wood, and rock, creating high-value items.
- Factory-Level Productivity: xTool's exclusive Auto Streamline Production, powered by the Auto Conveyor (available separately) and a 16MP SMART CAMERA system, effortlessly manages batch engraving. This laser engraver and cutter machine automatically recognizes shapes on the conveyor, intelligently fills patterns on every piece nonstop, and with its 10,000mm/s speed, completes entire batches in minutes.
- Revolutionary Working Area and HD Resolution: The F1 Ultra boasts the largest desktop fiber laser engraver working space at 220mm x 220mm, expandable to 220mm x 500mm if with the auto conveyor. This enlargement doesn't compromise the detail and precision of HD photo engraving in any corner, unlike other fibers with switchable lenses.
The F1 Ultra uses a galvo scanning system. Instead of moving a laser head across a large gantry bed, mirrors rapidly steer the beam over a compact fixed field. This is excellent for fast logos, text, serial numbers, QR codes and repeated small products. It is less suitable for full sheets, large signs or furniture-sized parts.
The enclosure, camera positioning, autofocus and optional conveyor and rotary workflows make the F1 Ultra easier to use than many open-frame fiber machines. But optical power alone does not determine cutting performance. Wavelength, beam profile, focus, material formulation, speed, airflow, number of passes and workholding all affect the result.
See xTool’s current specifications.
Specifications that matter

Engraving performance by material
Metals
The fiber laser is the reason to buy the F1 Ultra for metal work. It is suited to marking stainless steel, aluminum, brass, silver, platinum, titanium and gold. Depending on the metal, finish and settings, “engraving” may mean surface marking, annealing, polishing, deeper engraving or cutting. These are different processes with different practical limits.
Stainless steel and many coated metals are natural applications. Aluminum can be more variable: anodized aluminum, bare aluminum and different alloys may require different settings or marking treatments to achieve strong contrast. A metal that technically marks may still produce a finish that is unsuitable for a customer-facing product.
The fiber source is also useful for serial numbers, logos, QR codes, metal tags, plaques, tools, promotional products and jewelry. It should not be described as a general-purpose metal-cutting system. A 20W fiber laser can mark metal effectively, but cutting thicker metal is a different requirement.
Wood, bamboo and MDF
The diode laser handles wood, bamboo and MDF, making the F1 Ultra useful for signs, coasters, gifts, tags, ornaments and small components. Results depend heavily on the material. Plywood adhesive, MDF composition, moisture, surface finish and thickness can all change the outcome.
Darkening, scorching, smoke residue and edge quality are especially important when a part will be sold rather than merely prototyped. A material preset can provide a starting point, but it cannot guarantee clean edges or consistent results across suppliers.
Leather, paper, felt and fabric
These materials are within the diode laser’s intended range, but they require careful fire and fume management. Natural leather, synthetic leather and coated fabrics are not equivalent. Unknown synthetic materials should not be processed until their composition and emissions risks are understood.
Acrylic
The diode laser can work with some dark, opaque acrylic. It generally does not cut clear acrylic effectively because blue light is transmitted through clear material or absorbed poorly.

Boost production efficiency with our reliable software, used by 68,000 daily active users. xTool F1 Ultra is a Class 4 laser engraver, with both the diode and infrared laser output power being 20,000mW.
This is a major distinction from a CO₂ laser. If your business mainly cuts clear acrylic, thick acrylic sheets or large acrylic signs, a dedicated CO₂ machine is usually the more appropriate tool.
Glass, ceramics and stone
xTool lists dark glass, ceramic, jade, marble, shale, cement and brick among diode-side materials. These applications are generally about surface marking rather than cutting. Results can vary with color, coating, reflectivity, moisture, surface texture and the desired contrast.
Plastics
The fiber laser can process some plastics, but “plastic” is not a single material category. Different plastics absorb laser energy differently and may release hazardous fumes. Do not laser an unknown plastic, PVC, vinyl or a material containing chlorine. Confirm the composition and ventilation requirements first.
Is the F1 Ultra a laser cutter or an engraver?
It is best understood as a versatile enclosed engraver that can perform limited cutting—not a compact replacement for a dedicated CO₂ cutter.
xTool publishes maximum cutting claims of up to 15 mm basswood and 12 mm acrylic, but identifies these as multiple-pass capacities. Those figures should not be treated as guaranteed single-pass results, clean commercial limits or universal performance across all brands and colors of material.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Cutting quality involves more than whether a piece eventually separates. For production work, examine:
- Whether the cut completes reliably;
- How much scorching or residue remains;
- Whether the kerf is consistent;
- Whether the cut walls are sufficiently vertical;
- Whether tabs, slots and press-fit joints hold their intended tolerances;
- How much time multiple passes add; and
- Whether smoke and heat warp the material.
The F1 Ultra is well suited to thin material parts, small décor, coasters, tags, jewelry components, branded merchandise and prototype pieces. It is poorly suited to full-sheet plywood, large acrylic projects, furniture panels, large signs and structural parts requiring tight tab-and-slot tolerances.
Before selling a product, run test coupons using the exact material, thickness and supplier stock you intend to use. A manufacturer’s maximum-thickness specification is a boundary claim, not a substitute for process validation.
Speed and small-batch production
xTool lists a maximum engraving speed of up to 10,000 mm/s. That is an impressive headline scan speed, but it is not the same as finished-product throughput.
A real production cycle can include:
- Loading and unloading;
- Positioning and fixturing;
- Camera recognition and framing;
- Focusing or height mapping;
- Multiple passes;
- Rotary or conveyor setup;
- Smoke extraction and cleanup;
- Cooling time;
- Inspection and quality control; and
- Rework when a mark or cut is not acceptable.
For a small business, the conveyor may contribute more to productivity than the maximum scan speed when the same-size products are processed repeatedly. It can extend the listed working area to 220 × 500 mm and help with longer workpieces, but it adds cost, setup requirements and another positioning variable.

- xTool F1 Ultra is a Class 4 laser engraver, with both the diode and infrared laser output power being 20,000mW.
The F1 Ultra is a credible small-batch tool for repeated tags, plaques, promotional goods, jewelry and personalized gifts. It is not automatically an industrial production machine. Buyers needing validated tolerances, high uptime, service contracts or large-volume output should evaluate a purpose-built production system instead.
Workflow, software and positioning
xTool lists xTool Studio for Windows and macOS, with support for common formats including SVG, DXF, JPG/JPEG, PNG, BMP and TIF. The machine also lists USB, Wi-Fi, IP and hotspot connectivity.
The camera, autofocus and material-shape recognition are valuable workflow conveniences. They can reduce manual measuring and make it easier to place a design over a small object. They do not eliminate calibration, fixturing or test marking.

Camera positioning can be affected by:
- Reflective or shiny surfaces;
- Very dark or low-contrast materials;
- Curved or irregular objects;
- Poor lighting;
- Material movement;
- Lens contamination; and
- Incorrect height or surface mapping.
xTool lists a ranging precision figure of 0.5 mm. That should be treated as a manufacturer specification for the ranging system, not as a promise that every finished mark will be positioned within 0.5 mm under every workflow.
LightBurn compatibility is indicated, but buyers should confirm the current device-support path and feature compatibility before choosing it. Camera positioning, conveyor functions, rotary workflows, curved-surface mapping and other features may not behave identically in xTool’s software and third-party software. Check the current xTool support documentation and LightBurn compatibility information for the software versions in use.
Rotary and curved-surface engraving
The F1 Ultra can be used with rotary workflows for cylindrical products, and xTool publishes a maximum processing height and rotary engraving diameter of 145 mm for the configuration shown on its product page.
“3D” or curved engraving should not be interpreted as unrestricted robotic engraving on arbitrary objects. The workflow generally compensates for changing surface height through mapping or height information. Rings, tumblers and other small curved objects still need suitable geometry, secure positioning and compatible software support.

Safety, ventilation and enclosure classification
The F1 Ultra has an enclosed cover and xTool lists eye-protection, fire-safety, emergency-stop and smoke-extraction features. Those features make an enclosed machine more practical in a workshop, retail setting or shared space than an open-frame fiber laser.
They do not make laser work risk-free. Laser-light containment and fume control are separate questions. The machine should not be operated unattended, and users should follow the current manual and local electrical, fire and workplace requirements.

There is also inconsistent terminology in available xTool material: one official specification table refers to “Class 4 Laser Safety,” while another F1 Ultra learning page presents the enclosed setup as Class 1. Class 1 and Class 4 are not interchangeable descriptions. Confirm the exact classification, certification and enclosure configuration for the specific model sold in your market before relying on either label. Do not assume that an enclosure automatically means that no additional protective measures are needed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor every installation:
- Use appropriate ventilation or filtration;
- Do not process unknown plastics, PVC, vinyl or chlorine-containing materials;
- Keep the enclosure, lens and extraction path clean;
- Check whether the supplied extraction arrangement is adequate for the room and material;
- Consider external filtration or outdoor venting where appropriate;
- Keep a suitable fire extinguisher available;
- Do not leave an active job unattended; and
- Allow hot workpieces and residue to cool safely before handling.
Smoke extraction is fume control, not proof that every indoor installation is safe. Commercial users should also check local rules, insurance requirements and building ventilation constraints.
Portability and installation
At approximately 14.7 kg and 273 × 373 × 492 mm, the F1 Ultra is portable compared with many enclosed CO₂ systems. It is not a handheld appliance. One person may be able to move the machine, but lifting and carrying it safely still requires planning, especially around stairs, doorways and crowded workspaces.
It needs a stable, level surface with clearance for the lid, cables, airflow and extraction equipment. The conveyor, rotary attachment, filtration system and ducting add to the footprint and handling burden. Keep the original packaging if the machine may be relocated or returned.
Cost of ownership
On the US product pages observed on August 16, 2026, xTool displayed a standalone price of $3,399 against a listed $3,999 MSRP. A conveyor bundle was displayed at $3,849 and a deluxe bundle at $5,059. Promotional discounts and trade-in credits were also shown.
These are time-sensitive signals, not permanent prices. Confirm the current checkout total, sales tax, shipping, warranty, return terms and regional availability before buying. The displayed pages used “VAT Excl.” terminology, so do not assume the advertised figure is the final delivered US cost.
Budget for more than the machine:
- Conveyor and rotary accessories if your products require them;
- Extraction, filtration and ducting;
- LightBurn, if selected and supported for your workflow;
- Test materials and sacrificial stock;
- Fixturing and jigs;
- Cleaning supplies and replacement lenses or other consumables;
- Shipping, tax and possible import charges;
- Maintenance and downtime; and
- Scrap and rework while building a settings library.
For a commercial operation, filtration and ventilation should be treated as core operating equipment rather than optional accessories.

Dedicated 20W fiber laser
A dedicated 20W fiber machine is usually the more direct choice for metal-only engraving. It avoids paying for a diode laser you will not use and may cost less. The trade-off is often an open-frame design, a smaller work area, manual focusing and a more demanding safety setup.
xTool’s comparison with an OMTech 20W fiber model displayed an OMTech price of $2,399 and a 110 × 110 mm work area. That is a manufacturer comparison, so current price and performance should be independently verified. The buying principle remains sound: metal-only users should compare the F1 Ultra against a dedicated fiber machine rather than assuming the dual-laser design is automatically better.

A CO₂ laser is generally the better choice for cutting wood, acrylic and larger sheet materials. Larger beds are common, and CO₂ wavelengths are well suited to many nonmetal cutting applications. A CO₂ machine is usually larger and still needs serious ventilation and maintenance, and it does not provide the same solution for bare-metal marking.

F2 Ultra UV Laser Engraver is a Class 4 laser engraver, and the laser output is 5000mW
High-power diode laser
A larger or higher-power diode machine can be a better-value option for wood, leather and dark-material cutting, particularly when the work involves sheet goods larger than 220 × 220 mm. It will generally be a poor substitute for the F1 Ultra’s fiber laser when bare-metal marking is central to the business.
LaserPecker dual-laser machines
LaserPecker products may appeal to buyers prioritizing portability and consumer-oriented workflows. Compare the exact model’s laser powers, work area, enclosure, software, accessories and current price; generic “dual laser” branding does not establish equivalent capability.
xTool F2 Ultra
The xTool F2 Ultra is a higher-priced, higher-power alternative for buyers with more demanding metal workloads. A TechRadar review reported a 60W MOPA fiber laser, 20W blue diode laser, speeds up to 15,000 mm/s and a $4,999 US price at the time of review. Current pricing and specifications should be checked before purchase. It is not a direct substitute for the F1 Ultra if compact size and lower entry cost are priorities.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Who should buy the F1 Ultra?
Buy it if:
- You regularly need both metal marking and nonmetal engraving.
- Your products fit within a 220 × 220 mm field or the conveyor’s 220 × 500 mm format.
- You make small batches of personalized gifts, tags, plaques, jewelry or promotional products.
- You value an enclosure, camera positioning and autofocus enough to pay for them.
- You need a machine that can move between metal, wood, leather, slate and selected acrylic.
- You have a realistic ventilation and materials-safety plan.
Choose something else if:
- Your main work is cutting plywood, MDF or acrylic sheets.
- You need a large work area or full-sheet nesting.
- You primarily need deep metal engraving or metal cutting.
- You only need a fiber laser and will not use the diode source.
- Your budget is closer to $2,000 than $4,000 after accessories and tax.
- You require industrial uptime, validated production tolerances or a formal service contract.
Practical troubleshooting checklist
Weak or missing engraving
Check the selected laser source, focus, object height, material suitability, speed, power and frequency settings. Inspect and clean the lens, secure the workpiece and consider whether a reflective finish or unsuitable coating is preventing absorption. Also check the current software and firmware requirements in the F1 Ultra user guide.
Poor cut-through
Confirm the material’s actual composition and thickness, then check focus, number of passes, airflow, warping, smoke accumulation and lens cleanliness. Clear acrylic may be unsuitable for the diode wavelength. If the job requires many passes or produces unusable edges, the issue may be the machine’s suitability for the application rather than a missing preset.
Misalignment
Prevent movement with a jig or suitable workholding. Recheck camera calibration, height, surface mapping and conveyor positioning. Reflective, curved or low-contrast surfaces may defeat camera placement. Use a frame or low-power outline check before processing valuable material.
Smoke and residue
Stop and inspect the lens, work area and extraction path. Improve filtration or venting as appropriate, avoid hazardous materials and never continue unattended when smoke, heat or flame is abnormal.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Software connection problems
Check whether you are using xTool Studio, xTool Creative Space or LightBurn, then confirm that the machine, firmware, drivers and selected connection method are supported. Camera, conveyor and rotary features may depend on the application. Use the current xTool support documentation rather than an older tutorial.
Final assessment
The xTool F1 Ultra is a useful dual-laser production tool when its two sources solve a real workflow problem. It brings fiber marking for metals and diode work for wood, leather, paper, slate and selected nonmetal materials into one enclosed, relatively compact platform. Camera positioning, autofocus and optional conveyor and rotary workflows can reduce setup friction for small businesses.
Its weakness is the same as its appeal: it is a compromise machine. It does not offer the large bed and cutting behavior of a CO₂ laser, the lowest-cost metal-only route of a dedicated fiber machine, or the large-format value of a high-power diode cutter. The 10,000 mm/s headline and maximum multi-pass cutting claims should not be confused with finished-product throughput.
For mixed-material personalization and compact small-batch production, the F1 Ultra can justify its premium. For metal-only work, large-format cutting or serious structural-part production, spend the budget on a machine designed specifically for that workload.
