The original Xiaomi Mijia Smart Fish Tank, model MYG100, went on sale in China on March 16, 2023, for 399 yuan. Its 20-liter design combines app-controlled feeding, lighting, pump flow and temperature monitoring. The price was roughly converted to $57 in launch coverage, but that is a historical conversion—not a current U.S. price or proof of U.S. availability.
What the 399-yuan price covered
The 399-yuan figure was the standard China retail price reported when the MYG100 launched. Xiaomi had previously offered it through crowdfunding for 349 yuan; that campaign price was expected to end before retail sales began. The crowdfunding coverage described the earlier offer, while March 2023 launch coverage reported the retail sale. Neither figure includes any later reseller markup, shipping, import tax or warranty costs.
This is a China-market product, not a newly launched global aquarium. As of 2026, the original MYG100 should be distinguished from the separate Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro, reported in China in August 2026 with a 31-liter capacity and different pricing. Coverage of the newer model does not establish that either tank has official U.S. distribution.
MYG100 specifications and integrated equipment
The MYG100 is a compact, freshwater-oriented aquarium with a maximum stated capacity of 20 liters. Its reported dimensions are 446 × 246 × 295 mm, and its empty weight is about 7.3 kg. The tank uses Jinjing five-line ultra-clear UHA glass with a reported 91.3% light transmission. Lighting combines 24 white LEDs and 16 RGB LEDs.

These specifications are drawn from launch coverage and a manual copy listing for the MYG100. The manual listing also identifies a power adapter, drainage pipe, physical filtration module, biochemical filtration module, fishkeeping information card and Chinese-language manual among the included components. “Ready out of the box” means the hardware is integrated; it does not mean a new aquarium is biologically ready for fish immediately.
What remote feeding actually does
The Mijia app can be used to schedule feeding, set portions and trigger feeding remotely. The feeder’s reported capacity is 30 mL, and launch coverage said a refill could last up to about three months. That is an estimate dependent on pellet size, portion settings and fish population—not a guarantee that every tank can be left unattended for that long.

Before relying on it during a trip, owners should confirm that the food fits and flows freely, test the dispenser, and check that the fish eat the food where it lands. Food can clump or clog, schedules can be interrupted by power or network outages, and a portion that is too large can degrade water quality. Remote feeding is a convenience, not a substitute for observation or a backup plan for longer absences.

App controls, lighting and filtration
Reported Mijia app functions include feeding controls, lighting, pump-flow adjustment and temperature monitoring. The pump has been described with low, medium and high flow settings, and the tank includes side-pump drainage intended to make water removal easier. Available sources do not support treating the tank as an automated water-testing system: there is no verified built-in suite for measuring pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate or salinity.

The rear filtration system is described as a multi-stage setup combining physical and biological filtration, circulation and oxygenation. Coverage also repeats Xiaomi’s claim that the system can allow up to six months without a water change. That should be understood as a product claim, not a safe care schedule for every aquarium. Water-change needs depend on stocking, feeding, plants, filter maturity and measured water chemistry. Test the water and change it when conditions call for it; filtration does not eliminate maintenance.
Earlier coverage suggested physical media replacement at roughly three months and biological media at roughly six months, but replacement pricing was not announced in that report. Anyone considering an import should check that compatible media is actually available before buying.

Capacity is not a universal stocking recommendation
March 2023 coverage attributed the following stocking guidance to Xiaomi:

- Five to six adult fish measuring 10–15 cm
- Six to eight adult fish measuring 6–9 cm
- Eight to twelve fish measuring 3–5 cm
These are manufacturer-attributed figures, not universal aquarium rules. A fish’s adult size, activity, temperament and oxygen demand matter, as do filtration maturity and water quality. A 20-liter tank has little margin for overfeeding or overcrowding, so a conservative stocking plan is prudent. The product is presented for small freshwater fish and planted-aquarium use; earlier coverage says it does not support saltwater fish and notes that extra aeration may be needed at high stocking density. Avoid mixing animals with very different sizes or care requirements.

Setup and ongoing care still matter
Even with integrated equipment, set up the tank carefully before introducing livestock. Use water conditioner where needed, stabilize temperature for the intended animals, and allow the biological filter to cycle. Monitor water chemistry—particularly ammonia, nitrite and nitrate—with appropriate tests, and maintain the filter and tank routinely. Temperature monitoring can alert an owner to a reading; it does not prevent every temperature swing or equipment failure.
Allow for the load as well as the footprint. Twenty liters of water alone weighs about 20 kg; with the reported empty tank weight, substrate, décor and equipment, the installed aquarium can weigh roughly 27 kg or more. Place it on a level, stable, water-resistant surface that can safely support it.
Buying outside China: check compatibility first
The documented launch and retail sale were in China. The 399-yuan price—and the roughly $57 conversion repeated in 2023 coverage—does not establish a current U.S. selling price, landed cost or local warranty. There is no verified evidence in the available sources of official U.S. distribution or U.S. warranty support.

Check whether the device appears in the Xiaomi Home/Mijia app region you can use, whether the interface and documentation work for you, and whether the included adapter suits your local mains voltage and plug. A user report describes a China Mainland region setup requirement, but that is anecdotal rather than official guidance; regional behavior may vary. Also consider shipping damage and the difficulty of obtaining support for a China-market device.
Convenience is the main appeal: the feeder, pump, lighting and filtration are integrated in a small footprint, and app controls can reduce routine hands-on steps. The trade-off is that app compatibility and parts access may be harder outside the intended market, while the small capacity makes careful stocking and water monitoring especially important.
