Yes, the Mijia Smart Steam Oven is a real Xiaomi-linked countertop appliance, but the 249-yuan (about $35 at the time) figure was a reported China introductory price—not a current U.S. price or proof of global availability. The compact 12-liter, 1,300W oven was advertised with Mijia app features. Its small water-injection feature appears intended to add humidity for toast and reheating, not to provide the sustained steam cooking of a full steam oven.
What the Mijia 12L oven is
The Mijia Smart Steam Oven is a compact countertop appliance with a 12-liter cavity, a front viewing window, and physical controls. It is intended for small portions—such as toast, pastries, reheated food, and modest baked dishes—rather than family-size trays or large roasts. Think of it as a small toaster oven with a limited moisture-assistance feature, not a replacement for a full-size oven or dedicated steam cooker.
Coverage in May 2023 reported a 1,300W rating, app control, NTC temperature sensing, and adjustment in 1°C increments. The exact model identifier is not consistent across listings: MKX02M and MKX02M-1 both appear, so a buyer should compare the rating label and specifications rather than assume every listing describes the same revision. May 2023 launch coverage and third-party product listings provide the reported details; an official Xiaomi page for this exact model was not located.

That distinction matters: a tiny dose may help keep bread or toast from drying as quickly and may support a crisp outside with a softer interior, but it is not equivalent to a large water tank and continuous steam generator.
In practical terms, do not buy it expecting to steam a batch of dumplings, vegetables, fish, or rice as you would in a dedicated steamer. That limitation follows from the reported small water dose and compact design; it is not a measured performance claim. Do not pour extra water into the cavity or exceed the specified amount: excess water can create burn and condensation hazards and may damage an electrical appliance. App control—and the regional catch
The China-market model was advertised as compatible with Xiaomi’s Mijia/Mi Home ecosystem, including remote operation and cloud recipes. The available launch coverage also refers to a large recipe library. That does not guarantee that the same app functions, language, recipes, or account setup will work in every country. Region selection, firmware, and cloud support can affect imported Xiaomi appliances; support for Google Home, Alexa, or other platforms should not be assumed.

If pairing fails, first check that the appliance is powered and near the router, and use a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network if that is what the exact model supports. Confirm the device’s required Xiaomi Home region and follow the model manual’s instructions for entering pairing mode. A China-market unit may require a China region setting. The exact reset sequence is not verified here, so do not try an assumed button combination. If the app is unavailable or does not connect, use the physical controls only as described in the manual.
Why the price is quoted as 249 yuan
The price has a timeline, rather than one timeless list price:

- May 2023: Gizmochina reported a 249-yuan introductory price in China, approximately $35 using the exchange rate cited at the time.
Thus, 249 yuan is a reported promotional or introductory China price, not necessarily the product’s standard price, present-day price, or delivered cost abroad. For an imported unit, shipping, taxes or duties, seller markup, currency changes, returns, and warranty coverage can all change the real cost.

Availability and electrical compatibility outside China
The exact 12L model does not appear in Xiaomi’s current global cooking-appliance catalog, which instead lists newer appliances. That does not prove the older model is unavailable through every retailer, but an official current global or U.S. launch could not be verified. Treat it as an older China-market product unless a seller can establish otherwise.
A third-party listing specifies 220V/50Hz. Before importing, check the appliance’s rating label and the seller’s electrical specifications, confirm that the plug and local supply are appropriate, and check applicable local electrical-safety certification. Do not plug a 220V appliance into a standard 120V U.S. outlet without confirming the exact requirements; do not assume a converter will make a high-power heating appliance safe. - Anyone whose electrical supply does not clearly match the unit’s rating.
- Recipes requiring long cooking cycles: the reported timer tops out at about 30 minutes, and the small cavity can constrain tall cookware, thick foods, and crowded trays.
Current Xiaomi alternatives
If the goal is a currently listed Xiaomi appliance rather than this older China-market model, Xiaomi’s global site lists the Mijia Smart Steam Air Fryer 7L. Its page describes a 1.5-liter water tank, dedicated steam and steam-and-air-fry modes, app support, and a 7-liter capacity. It offers a more explicit steam system, but uses an air-fryer format rather than the 12L oven’s small baking cavity.
The Xiaomi Smart Double Stack Air Fryer 12L is another current global listing. It has two baskets and a 12-liter total capacity, making it more suitable for separate foods, but it is not a steam toaster or traditional oven-style cavity. Check the Xiaomi page for your region and confirm local price, voltage, warranty, and app support before buying either alternative.
