Check the model number before buying: Xiaomi’s global Mi Wireless Switch, model WXKG01LM, uses Zigbee—not Bluetooth. A separately listed Bluetooth model, XMWXKG01LM, uses Bluetooth 5.0 BLE and needs a compatible Bluetooth Mesh Gateway. They look similar in name and purpose, but they are not interchangeable.
What the Xiaomi wireless switch does
This is a small, battery-powered button for triggering smart-home actions. It is not a mains-powered wall switch: it sends a command through a compatible Xiaomi hub or gateway, and an automation tells another device or scene what to do.
Xiaomi describes three inputs—tap, double tap and press and hold. Depending on the model, app region, hub and supported automation options, those inputs can trigger actions such as toggling a lamp, switching off lights at bedtime, starting a leaving-home scene, or controlling a compatible fan, purifier or smart plug. Xiaomi also describes remote calling, but that requires a compatible Xiaomi speaker set up in Xiaomi Home; the speaker is purchased separately. See Xiaomi’s product page.

Bluetooth or Zigbee? Identify the model first

Xiaomi’s global specifications identify WXKG01LM as Zigbee. The Bluetooth model and its gateway requirement are identified by a specialist Bluetooth-version listing. The word “Bluetooth” in a marketplace title is not enough to establish which product is being sold. Ask for a clear photo of the label or packaging and match the model number before ordering.
Which hub and app does it need?
For smart-home automation, plan on a compatible Xiaomi hub or gateway. Xiaomi says the WXKG01LM needs Xiaomi Smart Home Hub 2 for full functionality. The Bluetooth-version listing specifies a Bluetooth Mesh Gateway-capable device and gives Xiaomi Smart Multimode Gateway 2 and Xiaomi Smart Hub Gateway as examples. A phone’s ordinary Bluetooth connection should not be assumed to replace that gateway.

Setup runs through Xiaomi Home or Mi Home. Device availability and automation choices can depend on the app region, hub, firmware and market version. Before buying, check that the switch and hub are supported in the same account region and that the exact model appears in the app’s supported-device options. The reviewed Xiaomi global pages do not establish a current U.S. checkout or price for this product, and U.S. availability for the Bluetooth version is not established.

The Bluetooth-model specifications above come from the specialist listing; confirm them against the actual seller’s product label. Xiaomi estimates about two years of battery life for WXKG01LM, based on 20 clicks per day at 25°C with a CR2032 battery. That is a manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed replacement interval; usage and environmental conditions affect battery life, and Xiaomi warns it falls at low temperatures. Xiaomi’s specification page lists the switch and user manual in the package.

Pairing and setting up an action
The exact pairing gesture can vary by model. Follow the manual for the model in hand rather than relying on a universal button-hold duration. Xiaomi’s Mi Wireless Switch manual directs users to search for “Mi Home / Xiaomi Home” in the app and select the switch during setup.
- Install or open Xiaomi Home/Mi Home, select the correct home and region, and make sure the account is using a supported hub.
- Set up the compatible Xiaomi hub or gateway first and confirm it is online.
- In the app, open the hub’s add-device flow and choose the exact switch model offered.
- Put the switch into pairing mode using the instructions for that model, then complete the app prompts.
- Create an automation for each desired input—single press, double press or press and hold—and select a compatible target or scene.
- Test each action with the switch near the hub. Once it works consistently, move the switch to its intended location and test it there again.
If the switch will not pair or trigger an action
- Check the model and protocol first. WXKG01LM is Zigbee; XMWXKG01LM is the Bluetooth version in the specialist listing. A protocol mismatch cannot be fixed by repeating the same pairing attempt.
- Check the app region and market version. Confirm the hub and button are supported in the selected Xiaomi Home region, and check whether the seller supplied an imported or China-market unit. Regional differences are a compatibility risk, not proof that every imported unit will fail.
- Confirm the gateway requirement. The Zigbee model needs a compatible Xiaomi hub; the Bluetooth version needs a Bluetooth Mesh Gateway-capable Xiaomi device. Pairing the button directly to a phone is not a substitute for the required gateway.
- Check the battery. Replace the CR2032 if needed, then retry. A battery that looks new may still be weak after long storage or exposure to low temperatures.
- Pair close to the hub, then test the final position. Metal surfaces, thick walls and crowded 2.4-GHz environments can affect wireless reliability.
- If pairing succeeds but nothing happens, inspect the automation. Check that the intended press type is assigned, the automation is enabled, the target device is online, and the device and button belong to the same Xiaomi Home environment.
- Review app, hub and device status. Confirm setup is complete and the hub remains online; update or restart components only when the app or model-specific support instructions point to that step.
Useful places for a scene button
- Bedside: assign a press to turn off bedroom lights or trigger a bedtime scene without finding a phone.
- Desk or office: use a press to control a compatible lamp, plug or other device included in a Xiaomi Home automation.
- Entryway: trigger a leaving-home scene when compatible devices and automations are configured in the same environment.
- Guest or child access: provide a simple physical control for a configured scene, while keeping the limits of that scene clear to the user.
- Remote call: Xiaomi describes a calling function with a compatible Xiaomi speaker that has completed automatic setup in Xiaomi Home; confirm compatibility for the specific speaker and region.
- Rental or retrofit use: attach or place the battery-powered button without wiring, while remembering that it sends automation commands rather than switching the circuit itself.
Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Matter and Home Assistant
The available Xiaomi documentation establishes Xiaomi Home/Mi Home and Xiaomi gateway use. It does not establish native support for Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home or Matter for either exact switch model. Do not buy it on the assumption that a protocol name—Bluetooth or Zigbee—automatically makes it visible to those platforms.

Hub integrations or community bridges may offer workarounds, but they are distinct from confirmed native compatibility and can depend on the exact hub, software and model. For Home Assistant in particular, the reviewed product documentation does not establish official support. Treat direct Matter support as unconfirmed unless the seller or manufacturer documents it for the exact model.

Aqara’s product pages showed U.S. price signals of $17.99 for the Wireless Mini Switch and $54.99 for the listed Light Switch H2 configuration when observed; these are not guarantees of current price or availability. None of the wired H2 switches is a like-for-like replacement for a battery-powered button. A Matter/Thread button may suit a cross-platform home, but check the specific device type, controller and automation functions before purchase.
