The Xiaomi Smart Door Lock E20 WiFi was a China-market product, and its 1,049-yuan (about $143) price was a 2023 crowdfunding offer—not a current price or confirmed U.S. launch price. Crowdfunding was scheduled to start on October 18, 2023, at 1,049 yuan, against a stated recommended retail price of 1,299 yuan. Xiaomi’s reported first retail price later that year was 1,099 yuan. For buyers outside China, the bigger questions are whether the lock fits the door and whether Xiaomi’s app, services, installation and warranty will work in their region.
What launched, and when?
The E20 WiFi is an enhanced version of Xiaomi’s E20 smart lock, distinguished by its Wi-Fi connection and integration with the Mi Home/Mijia app. Xiaomi listed the product for crowdfunding on its Chinese Youpin platform on October 16, 2023, with the campaign scheduled to begin October 18. This was a China-market campaign, not a simultaneous global retail release. IT之家’s launch report covered the campaign and advertised features.
The price changed with the sales stage. Coverage on November 21 described preorders at 1,099 yuan, and the lock entered reported retail sales at that price on November 28. The preorder report and retail-sale report provide that later context.

The $143 figure was an approximate conversion attached to the 2023 crowdfunding price. It is not a fixed exchange-rate equivalent, a current street price or evidence of U.S. availability. The cited reports do not establish a U.S. release; Notebookcheck’s launch coverage likewise said overseas availability was unclear.

Unlocking, app features and alerts
Launch coverage listed several ways to unlock the E20 WiFi: fingerprint, password, one-time or periodic passwords, NFC, phone Bluetooth and a physical key. The multiple options can be useful for households that need to give temporary access, but a buyer should verify which credentials and functions work with the exact model and account region.
Xiaomi materials cited in launch reports claimed a 99.24% fingerprint recognition rate and a 0.5-second recognition time. These are product claims, not independent test results or a guarantee that every attempt will succeed. Wet, dirty or worn fingers, enrollment quality, age, temperature and installation conditions can all affect fingerprint use. Keep a second access method available rather than treating biometrics as infallible.

Wi-Fi is intended to connect the lock to Mi Home/Mijia for remote status checks, activity logs, alarm notifications and smart-home automation. Xiaomi’s launch materials also described up to 25 scene-trigger conditions. The lock has an integrated doorbell, with visitor notifications reportedly available through the app and compatible Xiaomi XiaoAI speakers. Remote functions depend on a working network, app and account setup; launch reporting does not establish the exact Wi-Fi band, router requirements, regional cloud behavior or long-term server support. Reported hardware includes a direct-insert C-level lock cylinder, an integrated lock body, a semi-matte handle, a high-strength alloy middle frame and an IML front panel with a wear-resistant finish. “C-level” is a Chinese cylinder classification; it should not be read as equivalent to a particular U.S. deadbolt grade or certification.

Xiaomi described a fully detecting electronic lock body with four intelligent sensors monitoring eight door or lock states, including alerts for a door left ajar, open too long or not locked after a timeout. Launch materials also said a Mijia security chip locally encrypts fingerprint and password data. Those are manufacturer claims: the cited coverage does not provide an independent security audit or establish that all app-related information remains local when connected features are used.
The advertised battery life was up to 15 months, with low-battery warnings and emergency power-bank operation through an exterior power interface. Battery life will depend on usage and conditions; the cited launch coverage does not resolve every implementation detail, including battery type and quantity, the emergency connector, or exactly which functions emergency power supports. Confirm those details with the seller, and keep the included mechanical key somewhere accessible outside the home.

Why importing it can be a poor fit for a U.S. door
The key issue is not the yuan-to-dollar conversion: it is whether the lock can be installed and supported where you live. The E20’s reported Chinese cylinder and lock-body design do not establish compatibility with a U.S.-style cylindrical deadbolt. Before ordering, compare the actual door and lock measurements with Xiaomi’s specifications and ask an installer or locksmith to confirm fit.

- Measure the door and existing hardware: Check door thickness, backset, latch and mortise dimensions, handing, and interior clearance. Confirm whether the E20 replaces a mortise lock or a cylindrical deadbolt, and whether drilling or other door modification is needed.
- Verify the Xiaomi ecosystem: Ask whether your Mi Home/Mijia account region can add this exact China-market model, whether setup and prompts are usable in your language, and whether remote access and firmware updates work from your country. These are risks to check, not documented E20 failures.
- Check service and credentials: Confirm where installation service applies, what warranty and returns the seller offers, and whether NFC credentials supplied with the lock will work for you. Imported replacement parts, repairs and return shipping can be difficult or costly.
- Ask about compliance: The cited reporting does not establish a U.S. lock certification. If you rent, have insurer requirements or must meet local building rules, check with the relevant party before fitting imported hardware.
- Plan for outages: Ask what remains usable without Wi-Fi or cloud access and whether fingerprint, PIN and mechanical-key entry work offline. Do not assume remote monitoring and local unlocking have identical dependencies.
Import costs are also more than the historical campaign price: shipping, any applicable duties or taxes, installation and potential locksmith work affect the real cost. The available sources do not quantify those amounts.

Is the E20 WiFi worth considering?
It may suit a buyer in China who has a compatible door, wants Xiaomi ecosystem features, and can use local installation and after-sales support. The range of access methods, app alerts and integrated doorbell are useful on paper, and the physical key provides a fallback. But the 99.24% fingerprint figure and 15-month battery life are advertised claims, not independent performance guarantees.
For most U.S. buyers, the E20 is a risky import unless door fit, account-region support, remote service, warranty and installation have all been confirmed. Xiaomi’s global smart-lock catalog lists other products, including the Xiaomi Automatic Smart Door Lock and Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock. Their presence in the global catalog does not prove that a particular model is sold or supported in every country; check the local product version, door specifications, installation terms and warranty. A regionally supported lock from another established manufacturer may be a safer choice when local locksmith support and a straightforward return process matter more than Xiaomi integration.
