Xiaomi launched the Redmi Projector 2 and Redmi Projector 2 Pro in China on September 21, 2023. The standard model’s introductory price of 999 yuan converted to about $137 at the time, but the Pro launched at 1,399 yuan—so the “under $150” price applies to the standard model, not both. These are China-market launch prices, not confirmed U.S. retail prices. IT Home reported the launch prices and specifications.

Both models offer 1080p resolution and a 1.2:1 throw ratio. That gives them the same basic image format and placement relationship; the Pro’s main reported advantages are its higher quoted brightness and more elaborate automatic alignment hardware. Chinese launch coverage reported the listed specifications, including suggested retail prices above the introductory prices. See the launch report.
What “under $150” means
The standard model’s 999-yuan launch price was widely converted to roughly $137. That is an exchange-rate comparison, not evidence that Xiaomi offered the projector for $137 in the United States. The Pro’s 1,399-yuan introductory price was more than $150 at the time of launch. Currency rates change, and neither conversion includes shipping, import taxes, marketplace markup or the cost of resolving a warranty claim.
The lower figures were introductory prices; the reported suggested retail prices were 1,299 yuan for the Projector 2 and 1,699 yuan for the Pro. Buyers comparing a live import listing should check the actual checkout total and terms rather than treating the launch conversion as a current local price.

Brightness and room conditions
Xiaomi’s Chinese launch coverage gives the Redmi models brightness figures in CVIA lumens: 180 for the standard projector and 300 for the Pro. These figures should not be read as ANSI-lumen ratings or compared directly with ANSI claims from other brands. Notebookcheck likewise cautioned that CVIA and ANSI figures are not directly comparable.
The Pro’s higher quoted CVIA figure distinguishes it from the standard model on paper, but it does not establish how bright or accurate either projector looks in a particular room. Both are better considered for dark or controlled-light viewing than for a sunlit room: ambient light washes out contrast, and a larger projected image spreads the available light over more area. A smooth, dedicated screen may improve uniformity compared with a wall, but it cannot compensate for strong room light.

Focus and alignment: where the Pro adds hardware
The standard Projector 2 was reported with automatic focus and AI-assisted correction, plus a sealed optical design intended to limit dust intrusion. The Pro adds a TOF laser-sensing module and camera-assisted adjustment, with AI correction and a six-axis gyroscope. Those features are intended to make setup and image alignment easier; they do not change the shared 1080p resolution or guarantee a better image in every placement.
The Pro is the more capable option on the reported specifications if automatic alignment and the higher quoted brightness matter enough to justify the added 400 yuan at launch. The standard model is the lower-cost choice for a dark room where basic 1080p projection and automatic focus are sufficient.

Don’t confuse Redmi Projector 2 Pro with Mi Smart Projector 2 Pro
The Redmi Projector 2 Pro is not the same product as Xiaomi’s globally listed Mi Smart Projector 2 Pro. Xiaomi’s separate global model is specified at 1,300 ANSI lumens, uses a 1.1:1 throw ratio, and lists Android TV 9.0, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. Its global product page also identifies Android TV and Netflix support. Xiaomi’s global specifications page covers that Mi-branded model—not the China-market Redmi pair.
In particular, do not transfer the Mi model’s software or ANSI-brightness claims to the Redmi Projector 2 or Projector 2 Pro. Xiaomi’s global product directory lists globally marketed projectors separately; it does not establish a U.S. launch or price for the Redmi models. Xiaomi global projector directory.

What import buyers should verify
The available launch information is for China. Before importing, ask the seller about the exact firmware and operating-system version, interface language, app store, Google services, Netflix certification and regional restrictions. The evidence for the global Mi Smart Projector 2 Pro does not establish the same streaming compatibility on either Redmi model. An external streaming device may be an option, but confirm that it works with the projector and the services you use.
- Final cost: Include shipping, taxes, currency conversion and any marketplace fees.
- Power: Confirm the plug and electrical compatibility for your country; ask whether an appropriate adapter or power supply is included.
- Returns and warranty: Check who handles defective units, damaged optics, focus problems or excessive fan noise, and whether the warranty is usable where you live.
- Replacement parts: Verify that a compatible remote and power accessories can be obtained.
- Room and image: Confirm throw distance and intended screen size for your space. Do not rely on a large advertised image size as proof of high brightness.
For buyers who prioritize documented global software and support over the lowest launch-price conversion, compare officially marketed alternatives on their current regional pages. Xiaomi’s global Mi Smart Projector 2 Pro is a different, higher-tier device, while XGIMI’s U.S. MoGo 2 Pro page describes another 1080p option with Android TV 11. Check current availability and pricing directly; neither is a like-for-like substitute at the Redmi standard model’s China launch price.
