Wyze launched its Solar Cam Pan on October 21, 2025, as a wire-free outdoor camera with 2K video, pan-and-tilt movement and an integrated solar panel. But the key fact for buyers and owners now is a June 4, 2026 voluntary recall: certain units purchased on or before April 3, 2026 may pose a fire and burn hazard if the wrong screws were used to attach the panel bracket. Check Wyze’s official recall instructions before buying, installing or dismantling a unit.
What Wyze launched
The Solar Cam Pan—also called Solar Cam Pan 2K in newer Wyze materials—is a battery-powered outdoor camera bundled with an integrated 1.8-watt solar panel. Its 6,400mAh non-removable battery is the main power source; the panel is intended to recharge it and extend time between wired charges. It needs no hub. Depending on the installation, the panel can sit on top of the camera or be mounted separately for better sun exposure.
Wyze announced the camera on October 21, 2025, at an initial price of about $79.98. That is a historical launch price, not a promise of today’s checkout price or availability. A live product page does not establish that the product is currently available without restrictions or that a particular unit is unaffected by the recall. What pan-and-tilt coverage means in practice
The camera can rotate through a full horizontal turn and tilt up or down, and its 360 Scan feature can sweep across the horizontal range before returning to a home waypoint. That can help one mounting point monitor a driveway, backyard or more than one approach. Person tracking can follow a detected person.
However, a 360-degree pan rating is not simultaneous 360-degree surveillance. The camera has one moving lens and sees only the direction it is facing at a given moment; it can be pointed away when something happens elsewhere. Set detection zones and a home waypoint carefully, and use multiple cameras if several directions must be covered at once. Wyze explains the camera’s coverage range and 360 Scan.
Solar charging is a conditional claim
Wyze says roughly one hour of sunlight per day can maintain the battery. Treat that as a manufacturer claim under suitable conditions, not a universal runtime guarantee. Results depend on panel angle and orientation, shade, season and latitude, motion frequency, live-view use, spotlight activity, Wi-Fi quality, temperature and battery age. If the camera’s position is shaded, separately mounting the panel may improve exposure.

The camera still needs an initial wired charge. Wyze’s setup guide calls for the included USB-C cable and a 5V/2A adapter, which is not included; Wyze estimates about four to six hours to charge from empty. The product is therefore wire-free during ordinary operation, not cable-free at setup. See the setup guide.
Recall: the screw choice matters
Wyze and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall on June 4, 2026, for certain cameras purchased on or before April 3, 2026. The hazard stems from incorrect installation guidance: a long, flat-head wood screw used to attach the solar-panel bracket to the top of the camera can puncture the internal lithium-ion battery, creating fire and burn risks. The long wood screws are for mounting the product to a surface—not attaching the panel bracket to the camera. That bracket-to-camera connection uses the short pan-head machine screws.
The recall is not based solely on owning a Solar Cam Pan. Wyze says no action is needed if the solar panel was installed separately or the bracket was attached with the correct short screws. But if a unit falls within the purchase-date window and you used the long screws—or do not know which screws were used—do not guess or casually remove the camera or panel. Wyze’s remedies for eligible customers include a replacement camera with solar-panel accessory, a refund, or a Wyze gift card for the original purchase price. The process may involve submitting device and purchase information, including the camera’s MAC address, which Wyze says can be found in the app under the camera’s settings and Device Info. If inspection requires dismantling and screw use is uncertain, Wyze may provide special firmware to drain the battery first; its instructions say to wait 48 hours after depletion before inspecting. Cameras submitted through the process may be disabled and must be disposed of according to local requirements. Use Wyze’s official recall form and, if directed, its battery-drain process.

A compatible microSD card supports local recording: Wyze specifies 8–32GB cards formatted FAT32, or cards up to 512GB formatted exFAT. Cloud-stored video requires a Wyze Services subscription. Local recording and cloud services are separate: having a card does not mean cloud event storage or every cloud-dependent AI feature is included. Check Wyze’s current service terms for the features you plan to use.
Do not assume every alert behaves like stored video. Push notifications, live viewing, local recording, cloud event history and AI features are distinct functions, and their requirements can differ. Confirm the current app and service requirements before relying on any one feature.

Setup and compatibility details
Normal setup uses the Wyze app, a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth enabled on the phone or tablet. Charge the camera before mounting it, choose a position with both usable Wi-Fi and sun, then configure detection, tracking, notifications, storage and the home waypoint. Wyze says the status light is solid red while charging and solid blue when charging is complete.
Wyze’s pages conflict on minimum phone operating-system versions: the product page lists Android 9.0+ and iOS 15.0+, while the technical-support page lists Android 10.0+ and iOS 16.0+. Check the current requirement with Wyze if app compatibility is a concern rather than relying on one of those inconsistent listings.
The included panel is the intended solar accessory. Wyze says its older Solar Panel can provide backup charging but does not operate as the normal data-transmitting accessory for the Solar Cam Pan 2K and does not appear in Power Manager. Details are in Wyze’s compatibility note.

Who might want this camera—and who should look elsewhere
On paper, the design suits someone who wants outdoor monitoring from a sunny mounting location, broad steerable coverage, no hub, and local microSD recording. The integrated panel avoids separately sourcing a compatible charging accessory, while a separately mounted panel can help when the camera itself must sit in shade.
It is a poor fit for a shaded location, a property that needs continuous 24/7 recording, or a user who needs several directions recorded simultaneously. It may also disappoint buyers expecting free cloud video, an easily replaceable battery, or guaranteed solar charging despite weak sun or heavy activity. For wired power and continuous operation, a wired pan camera may be more appropriate if a safe cable route is practical. A fixed battery camera with a separate panel offers a simpler view and potentially more panel-placement flexibility; a multi-camera setup is the better fit for simultaneous coverage. Wyze also lists its Battery Cam Pro as another camera family to consider, but compare power, movement, storage and service requirements rather than treating models as interchangeable.
Because the recall concerns a specific installation error with a battery puncture hazard, the current decision is not simply whether the feature list looks attractive. Buyers should verify current availability and recall guidance; owners with a unit purchased by the cutoff date should establish how the panel was attached before using or disturbing it.
