There is no single MEMS-sensor location for every Samsung washer. On many front-load models, the vibration sensor is attached to the outer tub or nearby tub structure, but the exact position, access panel, and sensor assembly depend on the full model number. An 8C, 8C1, or 8C2 code points to a MEMS-sensor-related issue on applicable models; it does not prove the sensor itself has failed.
Before removing a panel or ordering a part, find your washer’s complete model number and check its repair guide or parts diagram. Samsung’s MFS-MEMS-00 listing, for example, describes a vibration-sensor PCB assembly that attaches to the tub—but that does not establish one location or part for every Samsung platform.
What the MEMS sensor does
MEMS stands for microelectromechanical system. In a washer, a MEMS sensor is a compact motion or vibration sensor. Its signal helps the machine detect abnormal movement, imbalance, or excessive vibration during operation.
Samsung parts documents may call the component a MEMS sensor, vibration sensor, sensor PCB assembly, MEMS PCB, or tub vibration sensor. It may be sold as a small board or module rather than as a bare sensor chip. The name and appearance alone are not enough to identify the right replacement.

Where to look—and why the model matters
Front-load washers
On many Samsung front-load designs, the sensor is mounted to the outer tub or a nearby tub bracket or support. It may sit toward the top or rear of the tub assembly, with a small harness running toward the control system. Depending on the platform, reaching it may involve the top cover, rear panel, front cabinet, or control-area access. Do not remove a panel based on a generic instruction: the correct access route varies by model, and some locations require substantial disassembly.
Top-load washers
Do not assume a top-loader uses the same layout as a front-loader. Its sensor may be on the tub or tub-support structure, beneath the top cabinet, or associated with a control-board assembly. Samsung has used multiple top-load platforms, so the model-specific diagram is especially important.
Some designs may not have a separate, easy-to-spot module
Not every washer has an externally replaceable part labeled “MEMS sensor.” Some designs may associate the sensing function with a board assembly. Treat that as a model-specific possibility, not a universal rule. The parts diagram or service documentation for the exact washer is the authority on what is fitted and where.
Find the correct location for your washer
- Record the complete model number, including its suffix. Regional endings such as
/USor/AAcan matter for documentation and parts compatibility. - Find the rating label. On front-load models, check inside the door frame; on some top-load models, check under or behind the lid or control area. The rear panel and original paperwork are other places to look.
- Search Samsung Support for that exact model. Depending on model, region, and product age, its support page may provide a repair guide, service manual, exploded-view parts list, or user manual. Samsung’s WW25FG5B34BEAC support page is one example of a model page listing a repair guide and exploded view; availability differs for other machines.
- Search the documents for
MEMS,vibration sensor,sensor PCB, and the displayed code:8C,8C1, or8C2. - Match the part number to the diagram and model. Samsung’s washer-parts catalog advises using the complete model number for compatibility. Do not order a sensor just because its photo or error-code description looks right.
A user manual is useful for the meaning of an error and basic owner actions; a repair guide or exploded view is usually more useful for locating a component and identifying its part number.
What the sensor may look like
Where fitted as a separate assembly, it is generally a small plastic or circuit-board-based module—much smaller than the main control board—with a compact electrical connector. It may be screwed, clipped, or otherwise secured to the tub or its support. There is no dependable universal color, shape, or connector count. Use the service document and part number, not visual resemblance alone, to identify it.

MEMS sensor versus other washer components

Replacing a control board before checking the sensor connector and harness can be an expensive guess. Likewise, a motor-position sensor is not a substitute for the MEMS/vibration sensor.
What 8C, 8C1, and 8C2 mean
Samsung manuals for several washer families associate 8C, 8C1, and 8C2 with a MEMS-sensor-related fault or abnormal signal. Code behavior can vary by model and region. The codes identify a system or signal problem; they do not, by themselves, prove the sensor is defective. A loose connector, damaged or pinched harness, corrosion or moisture, a detached sensor, a control-board fault, or excessive mechanical movement may also be involved.

Several Samsung owner manuals advise switching off the washer and contacting service if the code persists. See, for example, the manuals for WF45M5500A*/WF45M5100A*, WF45R6300A*, and WF45T6000A*. Follow the manual for your own model.
Safe checks before opening the cabinet
- Stop the cycle, switch off the washer, and unplug it. Do not inspect internal wiring while the appliance is energized.
- Check that the washer is level and stable. If it is newly installed, confirm that shipping bolts were removed as directed in its installation instructions.
- Check whether the load is badly distributed, overloaded, or trapped. If the machine is shaking violently, do not keep running it to see whether the code clears.
- Look for obvious damage to accessible external wiring, such as crushing, abrasion, or rodent damage.
- If the manual permits a restart and the code has cleared, observe the machine cautiously. If the code returns, stop and follow the model’s service guidance rather than repeatedly resetting it.
Mechanical movement can have causes other than the sensor. Leveling, a poorly balanced load, worn dampers, damaged suspension, a loose counterweight, or tub-support damage may contribute to shaking. Samsung describes its damper assemblies as parts that help reduce vibration; a damper issue is a possible mechanical branch to investigate, not a diagnosis for every 8C code.

Only open the cabinet if the repair documentation for your exact model permits it and you are comfortable with appliance repair. The correct panel and procedure are model-specific. Unplug the washer first, allow time before handling connectors, and keep the appliance disconnected throughout a visual inspection.

- Photograph connectors and wire routing before disconnecting anything.
- Release connector locks; never pull on wires.
- Look for an unplugged connector, a sensor that has come loose from its mount, rubbed-through wiring, or moisture or corrosion at a connector.
- Do not probe live circuits, bypass or short the sensor, or substitute a generic accelerometer.
- Reinstall all panels before operating the washer. Do not run it open.
Some access routes involve sharp cabinet edges, door-lock wiring, or other assemblies. Stop if reaching the sensor would require major disassembly, or if you are unsure how to remove a panel safely.

- Sensor secure and plug seated: The problem could still be intermittent wiring, control-board processing, or mechanical movement. A normal-looking sensor does not rule out a fault.
- Sensor detached: Correctly remounting it may help if the sensor and harness are undamaged and the model’s procedure permits this repair.
- Wires broken or abraded: The harness may need repair or replacement using the model-appropriate part and procedure.
- Connector corroded or wet: Do not simply reconnect a damaged or contaminated connection and assume the fault is fixed; the connector or harness may need attention.
- Sensor visibly damaged: Confirm the correct replacement from the full model number and parts documentation before ordering.
- No obvious fault: Diagnosis may require model-specific electrical tests. Professional service is the safer next step.
Finding the sensor is not the same as proving it needs replacement. An 8C-family code is a starting point for diagnosis, not a parts order.
When to call a technician
Use Samsung service or a qualified appliance technician if the code returns immediately after a power reset, the washer bangs or moves dangerously, the sensor requires extensive disassembly to reach, or the fault may involve an internal harness or control board. Service is also the prudent choice if the washer is under warranty, there is evidence of water intrusion or electrical damage, or you lack the model-specific wiring diagram and skills required for further tests.
Do not replace a control board, sensor, or damper on speculation. The exact model, displayed code, timing of the fault, physical condition of the washer, and model-specific diagnostic procedure all matter.
