Google Home versions 3.34, 3.35 and 3.36 were released between June 9 and July 8, 2025. Version 3.35 introduced the most visible Nest camera changes, including richer event notifications and swipe gestures in the camera controller. Version 3.36 followed with targeted fixes for “No video available,” camera-stream recovery and setup interruptions.
These versions are historical, not current: as of August 18, 2026, Google’s release archive lists substantially newer releases, including version 4.18. If you are updating today, install the current Google Home version offered by the official app store rather than trying to find an old 3.34–3.36 package. The dates and changes above come from Google’s official Google Home release notes. Google also warns that features may roll out gradually, so installing a particular version does not guarantee immediate access to every listed change.

More smart-lock controls
Google Home 3.34 expanded the smart-lock experience with features such as:

Availability was not universal. The controls could depend on the lock model, its Matter or Nest integration, account permissions, platform and rollout status. Some functions could also be limited to Public Preview or particular device combinations. The release notes therefore should not be read as a guarantee that every compatible-looking lock supports every option.
Customizable Favorites
Version 3.34 let users tailor Favorites with the devices, actions and automations they use most. The customization also extended to Google Home surfaces on Wear OS. This improves access to existing controls; it does not, by itself, add new capabilities to the devices being controlled.
Setup, status and crash fixes
Google listed fixes for unexpected redirection during setup on certain devices, device statuses that failed to update correctly, and several crashes, including crashes associated with audio and device linking. These are broad reliability improvements, not a promise that every setup, status or crash problem was eliminated.

Contemporaneous reporting from 9to5Google identified an additional problem on some Pixel phones running Android 16. The Google Home Routines editor could place controls behind the status or navigation bars, making buttons such as Save, the close button or Remove action difficult to tap.
Rotating the phone or using gesture navigation reportedly helped in some cases. This was not a camera feature and was separate from Google’s official 3.34 changelog. A later report said the problem was fixed around version 3.37, apparently through a server-side change; it should not be attributed definitively to versions 3.35 or 3.36. - A static thumbnail of the event
- A larger animated preview
The interaction differs by platform:
- iPhone and iPad: press and hold the notification to view the animation.
- Android: tap the notification’s expand arrow to view the animation.
This changes how an event notification is presented. It does not improve camera resolution, change the detection model or increase cloud-retention duration. Because the feature depends on event detection and notifications, it may not appear when notifications are disabled, restricted, delayed or blocked by the operating system. Battery-saving settings, camera connectivity and account permissions can also affect what you see.

Swipe gestures in the camera controller
Version 3.35 also made navigation within the camera controller more direct:
- Swipe left or right to switch between the Timeline and Events list.
- Swipe down on the middle control bar to expand or collapse the player window.
- Swipe down on the camera player to dismiss the camera.
These are navigation improvements. They do not add another camera view, increase recording quality or change how camera events are detected.
Cast-controller refresh for Android Public Preview
Google listed a refreshed Cast controller for Android Public Preview, with a more reliable, better-performing interface aligned with the newer Google Home design. The Public Preview label matters: this was not a promise that the redesign was available to every Android user on the stable release.

The release notes also listed a crash related to generic specialization in Swift and a problem that prevented some devices from being linked through Works with Google Home. The Swift wording likely relates to an iOS-side implementation issue, but Google’s notes do not establish a specific affected iOS version, so it is safer not to infer one.

Google Home 3.36: targeted camera and stability fixes
Unlike 3.35, version 3.36 did not add a headline user-facing feature in Google’s changelog. It concentrated on reliability.
Fewer “No video available” errors
Google said 3.36 reduced cases in which a recent video was not yet available for streaming. This means fewer occurrences, not a guarantee that the message disappeared for everyone.
The fix does not recover footage that was never uploaded, nor does it solve camera power loss, Wi-Fi failure or subscription problems. If the message persists, check whether the camera is online, whether the event appears later in the timeline and whether the account and relevant service remain active.

Better recovery after power cycling during a live stream
Google fixed a specific sequence in which a camera was turned off and back on while a live stream was active, after which the app could show “Camera unavailable.” The intended improvement was better recovery once the camera returned.
This should not be treated as a universal fix for every “Camera unavailable” message. It targets stream recovery after that particular power-cycle sequence.
Setup interruptions after QR or setup-code entry
Version 3.36 fixed an interruption affecting new-device setup after scanning a QR code or entering a setup code. This is useful when adding Home or Matter devices, but it is narrower than a general pairing fix. Network isolation, unsupported hardware, incorrect codes, account restrictions, Bluetooth settings or device firmware can still cause setup to fail.

Other 3.36 fixes
- An Android issue that could show an incorrect outdoor temperature
- A significant crash related to suspend/resume partial functions
Google did not specify the affected temperature-device combinations, weather source or exact error pattern. Similarly, the suspend/resume description is a technical stability reference rather than a documented user-facing trigger.
Why a listed fix may not appear immediately
Release notes describe changes Google has begun distributing, not necessarily features that become available to every user at the same moment. Access can vary by:
- Android or iOS version
- Phone, camera or lock model
- Country or account configuration
- Device permissions and notification settings
- Public Preview participation
- Server-side rollout timing
Google’s release-notes page also says the notes are generated with help from Gemini and may require corrections or updates. Treat the listed scope carefully, especially for bug fixes whose wording does not identify every affected device.
What to do if the update or fix is not visible
- Confirm the app version. Check the Google Home listing in Google Play or the App Store. On Android, the version is also generally available from the system app-information screen. Store and system menu labels vary, so no single path is universal.
- Restart Google Home. Force-close the app, then reopen it.
- Check device connectivity. Confirm that the camera, lock or other device is online before treating an app symptom as a software fix failure.
- For missing camera previews, check notifications. Verify Google Home notification permission, the relevant Android notification channel or iOS notification settings, and battery-saving restrictions.
- For setup problems, retry correctly. Put the phone on the intended Wi-Fi network and keep Bluetooth enabled when the setup process requires it.
- Restart the device only when appropriate. If troubleshooting a live stream, note whether the failure occurred after power cycling. If troubleshooting an event, distinguish between a missing notification and a missing recording.
- Check rollout status. Confirm whether the feature is marked Public Preview or may be arriving gradually.
- Send useful feedback if the problem continues. Include the Google Home version, phone model, operating system, camera or device model and exact error text.
Should you install these versions?
At the time, updating through the official store was worthwhile for camera owners: 3.35 added useful notification and navigation changes, while 3.36 addressed several specific camera-reliability failures. Smart-lock owners and users with setup or status problems also had reasons to prefer 3.34.
In August 2026, however, the practical recommendation is different. Versions 3.34, 3.35 and 3.36 are no longer current. Install the latest official Google Home release available for your device instead of sideloading an old package. The historical changes remain useful for understanding when a feature or fix was introduced, but they should not be mistaken for a current support target.
