DIYZ was a real home-improvement app launched in October 2016. Its unusual feature was live access to professional “Pro Advisors” by phone or video chat when a user needed help starting or completing a project. It also offered written instructions, segmented videos, tool and material recommendations, and project estimates.
However, the original pricing and availability information is from 2016. A current DIYZ app listing or functioning official service could not be verified from the available evidence in 2026, so readers should not assume the old app, advisors, or prices are still operating.
What was DIYZ?
DIYZ was designed for homeowners and renters who wanted to complete home-improvement work themselves but needed expert guidance. It was not primarily a contractor marketplace for booking someone to perform the job. Instead, it combined project education with remote professional assistance.

DIYZ’s launch announcement described the advisors as professional and licensed experts. That was a company description, not independent confirmation that every advisor held the appropriate license for every trade and jurisdiction.
How the contractor video chat worked
The appeal was real-time visual help. A user could choose a project, review its estimated difficulty, time, and cost, follow the written and video instructions, and contact a Pro Advisor if something was unclear or went wrong. During a video call, the user could show the advisor the work area rather than trying to describe it only by phone.
In practical terms, the advertised workflow was:
- Select a project.
- Review the instructions, estimated cost, difficulty, and time.
- Gather the suggested tools and materials.
- Begin the work using the written steps and videos.
- Call a Pro Advisor by phone or video when clarification was needed.
- Continue the project using the remote guidance.
This was remote advice—not a dispatched contractor. A video call could not provide an in-person inspection, pull a permit, guarantee code compliance, or take responsibility for completing the repair. Camera angle, lighting, internet quality, and concealed conditions could also limit the usefulness of the advice.

The 2016 launch material grouped projects into:
- Electrical
- Exterior work
- Lawn and garden
- Painting
- Plumbing
- Walls and flooring
- Windows and doors
Contemporaneous promotional material mentioned examples such as installing an outlet, building a fire pit, and edging a garden bed. Those examples show the scope DIYZ advertised at launch; they do not prove that every project remained available or that each task was appropriate for an inexperienced homeowner.

How much did DIYZ cost?
The only located pricing information comes from the October 10, 2016 launch announcement:

Its current operation cannot be confirmed. DIYZ was genuine and had an iPhone and Android launch in 2016, but the available evidence does not establish that it remains downloadable, maintained, or connected to active advisors in 2026.
The official DIYZ website did not provide usable current content in the available check. A third-party Nextdoor page still describes the service and contains older promotional information, but that does not prove that the app, payment system, or video calls still work.

That distinction matters: it is more accurate to say that DIYZ’s current status is unverified than to claim definitively that the company shut down. Anyone finding an old download link should check the developer name, recent update date, current reviews, operating-system compatibility, privacy policy, and support information before installing it or entering payment details.
What DIYZ could—and could not—replace
The model was attractive because a short consultation could potentially prevent wasted materials, rework, or an unnecessary service visit. It was especially useful for a homeowner who understood the general task but had reached an uncertain point.
It was not a substitute for local, hands-on expertise when the issue involved hidden or dangerous conditions. Remote advice may not reveal concealed wiring, water damage, structural movement, gas problems, improper prior work, or local permitting requirements. An app estimate may also omit permits, disposal, specialty tools, concealed damage, and rework.

Plunjr’s Google Play listing describes on-demand chat or video access to home-advisor professionals for areas including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, appliances, diagnosis, and parts lists. The listing observed in July 2026 stated that the first call was free and later calls cost $45.
Best for: A user who primarily wants a live human to troubleshoot a problem. It is not an in-person repair service or a replacement for a local inspection.
DIY Hero: broad video advice
DIY Hero’s app listing describes real-time video chat with experts in areas such as carpentry, painting, electronics, and gardening. The available information does not establish its pricing, geographic coverage, advisor credentials, response times, or maintenance as clearly as the Plunjr listing.

DIY Heartbeat: planning and project management
DIY Heartbeat presents a broader platform with visual guides, cost and time estimates, AR measurements, project tracking, and a Pro Network that includes paid video consultations. Its pricing page lists a contractor plan at $29.99 per month or $289.99 per year; that plan is aimed at contractors, not necessarily ordinary homeowners.
Best for: Larger projects where budgeting, documentation, measurements, and organization matter more than a single quick answer.
DIYProjectPal: AI planning rather than human advice
DIYProjectPal’s U.S. App Store listing describes AI-generated project plans, estimates, tool and material lists, integrated videos, AR measurements, and an AI inspection feature. The listing showed a free download with one free search and a $6.99 Professional in-app purchase, with iOS 18.6 or later compatibility.

DIYZ pioneered a useful idea: combine ordinary DIY tutorials with the ability to show a project to a professional when instructions were not enough. Its 2016 launch pricing and feature claims are well documented, but its current app and advisor network could not be verified in 2026. For a currently documented live-help alternative, Plunjr most closely matches the original video-consultation concept; for planning without a human advisor, DIYProjectPal is the more relevant model.
