Yes, the Thermomix TM7 really cooks. It can sauté, simmer, steam, blend, knead, ferment, slow-cook, sous-vide and prepare guided meals. But it is not a robotic chef, a replacement for every appliance, or a completely unattended cooking system.
The TM7 is best understood as a recipe-guided cooking system and precision food processor with heating. Its strongest results are soups, sauces, risotto, purées, doughs, desserts and steamed meals. Its limits include a 2.1-liter bowl, modest skillet-style browning, cleanup, noise during high-speed blending and an ongoing Cookidoo subscription.
What the Thermomix TM7 actually is
The TM7 combines a food processor, blender, heated mixer, steamer, kitchen scale, dough kneader, slow cooker, rice cooker, sous-vide appliance, whisk and recipe-guidance display in one countertop system. Thermomix says it can replace more than 20 appliances; that is a marketing claim, so the useful question is which individual tasks it replaces well.

The U.S. model costs $1,699, based on the price listed August 18, 2026. It has a 10-inch touchscreen, a 2.1-liter mixing bowl and a Varoma steaming attachment that Thermomix describes as 45% larger than the previous version. The package includes the bowl and lid, blade, Varoma dish, lid and tray, spatula, butterfly whisk and simmering basket. A two-year limited manufacturer warranty is included. #1 Best Overall
- Built-in bowl scraper saves time. Quickly process ingredients without stopping to use a spatula. Simply move the scraper from side-to-side to scrape the bowl while the food processor is running or the power is off — no need to remove the lid.
- Slice, shred, chop, mix and puree with 2 versatile attachments. The Hamilton Beach food processor gives you 5 processing functions and includes a stainless steel slicing/shredding disc and chopping/pureeing blade so you can tackle every job with ease.
- Powerful 450 watt motor. Make healthy salads, homemade salsa, hearty acai bowls and more. The 450 watt motor easily powers through the toughest ingredients, so you can spend less time processing and more time enjoying.
- Precise control with 2 speeds plus pulse. The low and high speeds plus pulse give you the control you need for a variety of recipes. Use the high speed when you need more power and select the low speed for processing or mixing delicate foods.
- 10 cup bowl capacity. The generous 10 cup bowl fits large volumes of food all at once, and the large feed chute saves you time by reducing the need to pre-cut food before processing or using as a vegetable chopper.
Does it really cook, or just process food?
It really cooks. The bowl has controlled heating and stirring, while the Varoma cooks food with steam above it. The official mode list includes Browning, Open Cooking, Steaming, Dough, Blend, Rice Cooker, Slow Cook, Sous-vide, Fermentation, Warm Up, Turbo and Pre-clean, among more than 20 modes. Thermomix’s mode guide explains the available functions and their requirements.
That does not mean every result matches the best conventional tool. A wide skillet exposes more food to high heat, an oven bakes and roasts, and a large pot handles bigger batches. The TM7’s advantage is controlled, repeatable cooking with fewer separate steps—not unlimited capacity or total automation.
What it does best
Soups, sauces and stirred dishes
Controlled heat and automatic stirring are particularly useful for soups, tomato sauces, custards, béchamel and risotto. The machine can maintain a temperature while stirring, reducing the need to stand over a saucepan. It is also well suited to foods that must be blended smooth after cooking.

The 2.1-liter bowl can also limit family-sized portions.
Steamed meals
The Varoma can steam protein and vegetables while rice, sauce or another component cooks in the bowl. In an independent three-week test, TechRadar reported tender steamed chicken and properly cooked rice from a layered meal. It also found that the bowl required cleaning between stages in some recipes. Read TechRadar’s independent TM7 testing.

- Simply stack and press to chop: The patented stack & press design makes it easy to assemble and use. Simply press the lid to chop and release to stop. Since all you do is stack the lid on top of the bowl, no difficult twist-locking is needed.
- Perfect size for everyday use: Chop and mix up to 3 cups of ingredients every day of the week with this 3 cup chopper. It's the perfect size for everyday use, yet small enough for easy storage.
- Easily chop, puree and emulsify with stainless steel blades: Durable stainless steel blades make easy work of a multitude of ingredients including onions, carrots and nuts. Oil dispenser on lid makes it easy to emulsify dressings, dips and sauces.
- Easy to clean: The bowl, lid and removable blades of the Hamilton Beach chopper are all dishwasher safe.
- Power through tough ingredients: This small food chopper has a 350 watt motor to provide all the power you need to prepare all types of food including onions, nuts, herbs, hummus, dressings and homemade baby food.
This is genuine multi-level cooking, but not unlimited family-meal capacity. A recipe may still require plates or containers for holding ingredients, a bowl wash between stages, or another appliance for finishing.
Blending and chopping
Blending is one of the TM7’s clearest strengths. It can produce smooth soups, hummus, sauces, smoothies and frozen desserts, while its blade can rapidly mince and chop ingredients. TechRadar praised both the blending and mincing performance.
Chopping is not always uniform. Quantity, ingredient shape, speed and blade direction matter. Thermomix advises reducing speed or using reverse rotation when a less-fine result is wanted, and increasing speed when ingredients are not processed enough. See the manufacturer’s functionality guidance.
Dough, batter and desserts
The TM7 can weigh ingredients, mix batter, knead bread or pizza dough, whip cream and prepare desserts such as sorbet. It can support proofing or fermentation in appropriate workflows.
It does not bake. Dough and batter still go into an oven, and roasting, broiling, crisping and oven-style browning happen elsewhere. Calling the TM7 an oven replacement would be inaccurate.

- AUTO-IQ TECHNOLOGY: Features 4 Auto-iQ intelligent preset programs that take the guesswork out of food prep, providing one-touch control for chopping, slicing, pureeing, and dough making.

Specialty cooking
Slow cooking, sous-vide, fermentation, rice cooking, thickening and egg-boiling modes are real features, but their value depends on how often you use them. Some functions require particular accessories or Guided Cooking. Turbo and Dough modes also have a practical restriction: they are disabled when the bowl temperature is above 60°C.

Browning is not the same as using a skillet
The TM7 includes Browning modes and Open Cooking, which can cook without the mixing knife rotating and, in specified circumstances, without the lid. But a browning setting does not automatically provide the broad, dry, high-contact surface of a frying pan.
Large quantities of meat may release moisture and need batches. The amount of surface contact, the color achieved and the fond left in the bowl will differ from a conventional skillet. The TM7 can brown ingredients, but buyers should not expect it to replace a skillet for every sear.
“One bowl” does not always mean minimal cleanup
The bowl, lid and accessories are dishwasher safe; the base must be wiped and should not be submerged. Sticky sauces can be more difficult to clean than quick-rinse instructions suggest, and TechRadar reported grease and smears on the Varoma’s black plastic.
One appliance can still mean several removable parts, a transfer container and a wash between recipe stages. A dishwasher makes ownership considerably easier.

Cookidoo is central to the TM7 experience. Thermomix says the platform offers more than 100,000 recipes, with guided instructions and meal-planning tools. TechRadar found many tested recipes under-seasoned and reported unclear directions in some places, including ambiguity over conventional versus fan-oven instructions.

Guided Cooking automates steps such as time, temperature and stirring, but it does not guarantee perfect seasoning or judgment. Taste when safe, adjust salt and acid, and verify oven instructions rather than assuming the screen is always culinarily correct.
Guided Cooking versus manual cooking
Guided Cooking walks you through ingredients and stages, which can make unfamiliar recipes more repeatable for beginners. The user still needs to measure or add ingredients, respond to prompts, scrape when instructed, transfer food, taste where appropriate and clean the machine.
Manual Cooking offers more flexibility and remains available offline. Downloaded recipes, planned recipes and recipes in custom lists can also be available offline. Online recommendations, tutorials and other connected features require internet access. The full connected experience uses Cookidoo 3.0; Thermomix support says older Cookidoo 2.0 access is limited on TM7.
After the eligible three-month trial, Cookidoo costs $65 per year in the United States according to the product page. The appliance works without full subscription access, but buyers who do not want to pay for recipes should expect to rely more heavily on manual settings and their own recipes.
What does it replace?
| Appliance | Replaced for some tasks? | Fully replaced? | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blender | Often | Not necessarily | Excellent blending, but different capacity and workflow. |
| Food processor | Often | Sometimes | Chopping, grating and slicing depend on quantity and accessories. |
| Steamer | Often | Usually for small-to-medium meals | The Varoma supports multi-level steaming. |
| Saucepan | Often | No | Large batches and wide-pan cooking remain easier conventionally. |
| Skillet | Partly | No | Surface area and high-heat browning are different. |
| Stand mixer | Partly | No | Dough and whipping are possible, but capacity and workflow differ. |
| Oven | No | No | Baking and roasting still happen elsewhere. |
| Rice cooker | Often | Usually for small batches | A rice mode exists, but yield and texture should be compared. |
Noise, safety and accessibility
Thermomix markets the TM7 as quieter than earlier models, but “quieter” is not the same as silent. TechRadar found high-speed blending loud enough to be problematic in an apartment at night.

Steam from the Varoma and hot contents can cause burns. Follow the manual when unlocking, opening, cooling and handling the bowl or attachment. A cooling period may appear even after cold food because the machine needs to stop rotation safely; it should not be interrupted. Consult the TM7 manual for operating and safety instructions.
Guided instructions may reduce cognitive load for cooks who find conventional recipes difficult to follow. Physical access is a separate issue: the machine and attachments can be bulky and heavy, and users must safely lift, pour and handle hot components.

The first-year U.S. cost is approximately $1,764 before tax, shipping, accessories, financing costs or replacement parts: $1,699 for the TM7 plus $65 for Cookidoo after the eligible three-month trial. Buyers who cancel Cookidoo after the trial pay only the appliance cost, but give up much of the platform’s ongoing convenience.
Counter space, dishwasher access and cooking volume matter almost as much as the sticker price. For a large household, a 2.1-liter bowl can make the machine less efficient. For a small household or apartment cook who regularly makes soups, sauces, dough and steamed meals, the consolidation may be more valuable.
Who should buy the TM7?
Buy it if you want guided, repeatable everyday cooking; dislike constant stirring; regularly prepare soups, sauces, purées, dough, rice, steamed meals or desserts; value integrated weighing; have limited space; own a dishwasher; and accept the Cookidoo fee.
Skip it if you mainly want an oven, air fryer, pressure cooker or large-batch appliance; expect restaurant-style searing; dislike subscriptions; prefer instinctive cooking; lack a dishwasher; live somewhere high-speed blending would be disruptive; or already own a good blender, food processor, stand mixer, steamer and cooker.
Final verdict
The Thermomix TM7 is not an expensive food processor pretending to cook. It genuinely heats, stirs, simmers and steams food, and it can produce very good results with less active labor. Its best case is a busy household or inexperienced cook who values guidance and consistency.
But the “all-in-one” label needs qualification. You still prepare ingredients, supervise stages, adjust seasoning, wash parts and use an oven or skillet when the dish demands it. The $1,699 price and Cookidoo’s recurring cost make the TM7 worthwhile only if you will use its guided cooking ecosystem frequently. For everyone else, conventional appliances may deliver more capacity and control for less money.
