Understanding the Manufacturer Warranty on Samsung Refrigerators

For a typical Samsung refrigerator purchased and used in the United States, the standard manufacturer warranty provides one year of parts and labor. The sealed refrigeration system generally has five years of parts-and-labor coverage, while a digital inverter compressor may receive 10 years of parts coverage but only five years of labor coverage. These are typical U.S. terms—not a guarantee for every model—so the refrigerator’s model-specific warranty statement controls.

The phrase “10-year compressor warranty” therefore does not necessarily mean ten years of free repair. After the labor period ends, Samsung may cover the replacement compressor part while charging for labor or other service costs.

Samsung refrigerator warranty coverage at a glance

The following table summarizes typical U.S. Samsung refrigerator terms. Confirm the exact coverage for your model, purchase date, and product category in Samsung’s current warranty information and the written warranty supplied with the refrigerator.

Coverage Typical duration Parts Labor
Entire refrigerator, standard warranty 1 year Yes Yes
Sealed refrigeration system 5 years Yes Yes
Digital inverter compressor 10 years for the part Yes Generally 5 years
Ice maker Potentially 2 years Yes Yes

The ice-maker provision appears in some Samsung refrigerator warranty documents and should not be assumed to apply universally. Samsung’s general warranty page and individual model documents may contain different categories, addenda, or limitations.

What the standard one-year warranty covers

The standard warranty generally covers defective parts and the labor needed to correct a manufacturing defect when the refrigerator is used normally in a household, noncommercial setting. Warranty work must generally be arranged through Samsung or a Samsung-authorized service provider.

It is not an unconditional promise to repair every failure during the first year. Samsung’s written terms focus on defects in materials or workmanship. A clogged drain caused by maintenance problems, damage during delivery, an incorrect installation, or an unauthorized modification may not qualify even if the refrigerator is less than a year old.

Samsung may, at its option, repair the appliance, replace it, or refund the purchase price under the applicable warranty. Repaired or replaced parts or products generally receive the remainder of the original warranty or 90 days, whichever is longer, subject to the written terms.

What is the sealed refrigeration system?

The sealed system is the closed circuit that moves refrigerant and produces cooling. Samsung refrigerator warranty documents identify these covered components:

  • Compressor
  • Evaporator
  • Condenser
  • Drier
  • Connecting tubing

A sealed-system failure might involve a refrigerant circuit leak, a failed compressor, or another covered component in that circuit. However, not every cooling problem is a sealed-system defect. A refrigerator that is warm may instead have a failed fan, sensor, control board, wiring, defrost component, door gasket, drain, or ventilation problem. The technician’s diagnosis determines which warranty provision may apply.

Why a compressor claim can still produce a bill

The compressor and sealed-system warranties overlap but are not identical. The important distinction is between the part and the labor used to install it.

  • During the first five years, a covered sealed-system failure may qualify for both parts and labor.
  • A digital inverter compressor’s replacement part may remain covered for up to 10 years.
  • Labor for that compressor is generally covered for only five years.
  • After the labor period, you may face labor, diagnosis, travel, refrigerant-related, or other charges depending on the model warranty and service circumstances.

Do not authorize paid work based only on the words “compressor warranty.” Before the appointment, ask Samsung whether the visit, diagnosis, replacement part, labor, travel, and any refrigerant-related work are covered for your specific model and failure.

The longer compressor provision generally applies to a digital inverter compressor, not automatically to every compressor Samsung has used in every refrigerator.

What the warranty usually excludes

Samsung’s written warranty exclusions and limitations commonly address the following situations:

  • A removed, altered, defaced, or unreadable serial number
  • Commercial or other non-normal household use
  • Visits needed only to explain operation, maintenance, or installation
  • Improper plumbing, ventilation, storage, or installation where the model’s terms apply

The precise wording matters. Review the warranty for your refrigerator rather than treating this list as a universal legal definition of coverage.

Are shelves, filters, hoses, and lights covered?

Do not assume that every item supplied with the refrigerator is covered as a defective appliance part. Filters, hoses, water lines, shelves, lights, knobs, door liners, and other consumable, cosmetic, or nonfunctional components may be excluded or treated differently under the applicable warranty or service contract.

Samsung Care+ is separate from the manufacturer warranty. Its service-contract terms specifically contain exclusions for many such items. A replacement water filter or shelf is normally a maintenance or parts purchase—not a substitute for diagnosing a potentially covered sealed-system failure.

How to check your exact warranty

  1. Find the refrigerator’s model and serial numbers. Photograph the identification label for your records.
  2. Sign in to your Samsung Account and open My Products.
  3. Select the refrigerator and review its warranty status.
  4. If Samsung’s recorded purchase date is wrong, choose Review Warranty and upload proof of purchase.
  5. If the product is not registered, use Samsung’s product-registration or warranty-lookup process with the model and serial numbers.
  6. Contact Samsung Support if the online record remains inaccurate.

Registration is useful for managing the product, checking status, and requesting service, but it generally does not create the warranty. Samsung states that coverage starts automatically from the purchase date. Proof of purchase or delivery is still important.

Documents to gather before making a claim

Samsung may request an original dated bill of sale, proof of delivery, model number, serial number, and purchase or installation information. Save these items:

  • Retailer receipt or order confirmation
  • Delivery record
  • Installation invoice
  • Photos of the model and serial-number labels
  • Photos or video showing the symptom or error code
  • Prior service reports and technician diagnoses
  • Food-loss records, if another plan specifically requires them

How to file a Samsung refrigerator warranty claim

  1. Prevent further damage. Stop troubleshooting or disassembling the refrigerator if doing so could worsen the problem. Move food to safe storage when necessary.
  2. Record the facts. Note the model, serial number, purchase date, symptoms, temperatures, unusual sounds, leaks, and any displayed error codes.
  3. Read the model-specific warranty. Identify whether the refrigerator is within the one-year period, whether the suspected failure involves the sealed system, and whether a digital inverter compressor provision applies.
  4. Request authorized service. Use Samsung Support to schedule a visit with a Samsung Certified Pro or another Samsung-authorized provider.
  5. Describe the symptom accurately. Explain what the refrigerator is doing without insisting that the problem is definitely the compressor or sealed system.
  6. Confirm the financial terms. Ask whether the appointment is being processed as a warranty claim and whether the visit, diagnosis, labor, parts, travel, and refrigerant-related work are covered.
  7. Prepare the appliance. Make sure the refrigerator is accessible and unobstructed. The service agent may need room to inspect, disconnect, move, or remove it.
  8. Keep the records. Save the service-ticket number, appointment details, written communications, technician report, and final diagnosis.

Samsung’s service portal also provides repair-status tracking.

Is in-home service guaranteed?

No. Samsung’s refrigerator warranty states that in-home service in the contiguous United States is subject to the availability of authorized servicers in the customer’s area. If in-home service is unavailable, Samsung may choose transportation to an authorized service center. Depending on the circumstances and the written terms, the owner may be responsible for a trip charge or for bringing the refrigerator to the center.

The appliance must be accessible. If a technician cannot safely reach or service it in place, Samsung may require the owner to correct the obstruction or may remove the product for repair and return it.

The cited warranty is for products purchased and used in the United States. Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, Canada, and other countries may have different service areas and warranty terms.

Temporary warranty promotions

Samsung’s U.S. appliance warranty page currently displays a limited-time offer that can provide a second total year for eligible purchases, with an offer end date of September 30, 2026. This is a promotion, not the permanent baseline warranty. Qualifying models, participating retailers, redemption steps, deadlines, and eligibility restrictions apply. Verify the offer directly with Samsung before relying on it.

Samsung Care+ versus the manufacturer warranty

Samsung Care+ is an optional extended service contract for eligible appliances. It may provide protection for mechanical or electrical breakdowns after the manufacturer warranty, power surges, and certain refrigerator food-spoilage losses. The contract is governed by separate terms, service fees, exclusions, and enrollment rules.

Samsung’s Care+ terms provide a food-spoilage reimbursement benefit of up to $250 for an eligible refrigerator and covered breakdown, subject to proof of loss and all contract conditions. The standard manufacturer warranty should not be treated as automatically reimbursing spoiled food.

Samsung’s Care+ FAQ lists appliance terms of two, three, five, or seven years, with the selected term including the one-year manufacturer warranty. Pricing varies by product and term. Before buying, compare:

  • Total plan price and any service fee or deductible
  • When coverage begins and ends
  • Whether the plan overlaps with remaining manufacturer coverage
  • Parts-and-labor coverage
  • Power-surge and food-spoilage benefits
  • Repair limits and replacement or settlement provisions
  • Exclusions for pre-existing conditions, plumbing, filters, shelves, hoses, cosmetics, and maintenance

Samsung’s published Care+ information states that a fourth repair after three completed repairs can trigger replacement or settlement up to the original retail price, subject to the specific service contract. Do not generalize that provision to every Samsung protection product.

Out-of-warranty repair

Samsung currently advertises eligible out-of-warranty home-appliance repairs at prices starting at $369, as shown on August 18, 2026. Samsung says the service includes diagnosis, labor, genuine Samsung parts, and a 90-day warranty for the same issue. The starting price is not a guaranteed quote: the final amount depends on the product, diagnosis, repair, taxes, and service details. Check Samsung’s upfront repair pricing page before scheduling.

Paid authorized repair may be sensible for a newer refrigerator or a well-diagnosed failure. Replacement may make more sense when the appliance is older, has had repeated failures, or the repair cost represents a large share of a comparable new refrigerator’s price. Obtain the diagnosis and total quote before buying parts or approving work.
