Seattle-based TraceAir announced a $25 million Series B on May 29, 2024, led by PeakSpan Capital, with participation from Flashpoint Venture Capital and existing investors. The company said it would use the funding to extend its drone-powered site-intelligence platform into more land-development and homebuilding workflows. This was a 2024 financing—not a new 2026 raise.

What TraceAir does

Founded in 2015, TraceAir sells site-intelligence and construction-automation software for homebuilders, land developers, grading contractors, and related project teams. Its workflow combines drone-captured imagery and 3D site data with software for tracking site conditions and comparing work in the field with project plans. The company describes its product and service model on its website and product page.

  1. Drone flights capture site imagery and measurements.
  2. TraceAir processes the data into maps and 3D information for project teams.
  3. Users monitor progress, review earthwork and cut/fill, assess site balance, and compare observed conditions with design surfaces.
  4. Builders, developers, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders can review updates remotely and retain a time-stamped history of site activity.

TraceAir says its scans can be accurate to roughly one-tenth of a foot. That is a company-stated performance claim, not an independently verified guarantee for every site or flight. A site-intelligence platform can inform operational decisions, but it does not itself replace licensed surveying, engineering judgment, construction staking, legal ALTA work, or jurisdictional approvals.

Why land development needs its own information layer

Land development is not simply vertical construction management applied to a larger footprint. Before homes can be built, teams must assess land, coordinate grading and earthwork, deliver roads and utilities, manage drainage and permits, and prepare lots for vertical construction. On large projects, soil quantities, site balance, and deviations from design can have substantial cost and schedule consequences.

  • Early decisions: Land acquisition and feasibility work depend on understanding site constraints before construction begins.
  • Earthwork visibility: Grading teams need to track quantities, dirt movement, and progress against the intended design.
  • Distributed coordination: Developers, civil contractors, and homebuilders may be responsible for different stages or sites.
  • Persistent records: A dated visual history can help teams verify progress, investigate discrepancies, and document turnover or later questions.

TraceAir’s strategic position is the information layer between land acquisition, civil and site work, and homebuilding—not just a place to store aerial photographs. The practical value depends on whether the data is timely, accurate enough for the decision at hand, and connected to the team’s approved plans and working processes.

What the Series B was intended to fund

TraceAir said the capital would support new product development and the rollout of predictive analytics across land acquisition, planning, and construction workflows. The stated aim was to automate more decisions and give builders and developers data-driven insight across a broader portion of the development lifecycle. These were announced plans for the funding, not proof that every predictive capability was already generally available or that it had produced independently measured outcomes. The company’s May 29, 2024 announcement sets out the round and intended use of proceeds.

Investors, funding total, and company background

PeakSpan Capital led the $25 million round. Flashpoint Venture Capital and existing investors also participated; the announcement does not establish that every prior investor joined. GeekWire reported that the Series B brought TraceAir’s total funding to approximately $36 million. That cumulative figure is GeekWire’s reporting, rather than a total itemized in TraceAir’s funding release. GeekWire’s coverage also reported that the company had moved its headquarters to Seattle and identified Dmitry Korolev as CEO and Maria Khokhlova, Korolev, Alexander Solovyev, and Nikita Ushakov as founders.

TraceAir’s earlier funding announcement names XTX Ventures, Liquid 2 Ventures, GEM Capital, GPS Ventures, Metropolis VC, and industry participants among its investors. That earlier announcement described a $3.5 million raise and $7 million in funding at that point; it should not be read as a list of Series B participants. See the earlier company announcement.

What TraceAir has said about customer reach

In its 2024 financing announcement, TraceAir said it served the top 30 homebuilders across more than 40 U.S. states and Canada, and named D.R. Horton, Howard Hughes, and Lennar. Its current website makes a different claim: that it is trusted by 18 of the top 20 U.S. builders. These are company-reported figures from different dates and are not directly comparable; neither establishes audited market share, revenue, contract size, or current usage by every named organization.

A later example of the scale of work TraceAir addresses is its announcement about Placer Vineyards, a project it describes as covering 5,230 acres and planned for more than 14,000 homes. Those figures are the company’s description of the project, not a measure of TraceAir’s own customer count or performance. See the Placer Vineyards announcement.

How it compares with adjacent software

Option Best understood as Relevant distinction
TraceAir Site-intelligence software focused on land development and homebuilding Combines drone-based site data, earthwork analysis, progress monitoring, and development-oriented workflows; the company describes a turnkey capture-to-software model.
DroneDeploy Broader reality-capture platform Its civil-construction offering covers mapping, progress documentation, volume measurements, cut/fill and earthwork validation; its aerial product describes integrations including Procore, Autodesk, and Esri.
Procore and general construction-management suites Broad project and construction management More relevant when the priority is workflows such as documents, RFIs, submittals, financial controls, scheduling, safety, or subcontractor coordination, rather than land feasibility and recurring 3D site intelligence.

Procore announced an agreement to acquire DroneDeploy, a strategic development that could bring construction-management and reality-capture workflows closer together. The announcement alone does not establish that the transaction has closed, that the products are fully integrated, or that pricing has changed.

What buyers should evaluate

TraceAir may be worth evaluating for organizations managing multiple active communities or large sites where earthwork, grading, lot delivery, recurring updates, and dispersed teams make site visibility important. It may be more than a small builder needs for one or two uncomplicated sites, or redundant for an organization with a mature internal drone, survey, GIS, or photogrammetry operation.

Best Value
Sky High Bull's-Eye (24"x24") Drone Ground Control Point GCP - UAV Aerial Target for Mapping & Surveying (6 Pack) | Center Eyelet (Black/White Markers) | Pix4D & DroneDeploy Compatible
  • 24”x24” AERIAL TARGETS - Designed for low to medium altitude drone mapping and scanning, these drone GCPs were made for drone mapping up to 400 feet. The standard 24”x24” size is useful when scaling and verifying the map, providing a standard reference distance during post-processing.
  • DRONE GCP WITH CENTER EYELET - The center eyelet design allows the user to easily identify the center of the GCP with a survey rod without tearing the aerial target. The center eyelet can also be used to position the aerial target directly over existing survey nails for precision mapping with existing ground control points.
  • LIGHTWEIGHT & DURABLE AERIAL TARGETS - Using a weatherproof mesh material, these aerial targets were made to be highly visible yet lightweight, a big benefit when traveling or placing the ground control points in the field. The material is made with a matte finish which reduces glare from sunlight and overexposure on sunny days, which makes selecting the center of the target easier during post-processing.
  • WORKS WITH LEADING PHOTOGRAMMETRY SOFTWARE - Pix4D, DroneDeploy, Metashape, OpenDroneMap/WebODM, UAV4GEO Lightning, DJI Terra, Esri Drone2Map, Bentley ContextCapture, SimActive Correlator3D, 3Dsurvey, Propeller, Global Mapper Pro & RealityCapture
  • UAV GCP WITH CORNER ANCHOR POINTS - With eyelets at each corner to easily anchor the aerial targets, the corner anchor points prevent the GCPs from moving during mapping. The anchors also allow the GCPs to be left in the field if needed for repeat flights over a period of time, providing peace of mind that the aerial targets offer repeatable location data for high-accuracy mapping and photogrammetry.
  • Ask who performs drone capture and whether customer-supplied data is supported.
  • Define the accuracy requirement for each intended use and ask what conditions, control procedures, and benchmarks support any stated accuracy.
  • Confirm which deliverables are included: raw imagery, orthomosaics, point clouds, terrain models, and CAD or GIS exports.
  • Ask how cut/fill is validated against the approved design surface and how design revisions and audit history are preserved.
  • Test integrations, export formats, API access, permissions, audit logs, offline field workflows, and retention policies against actual project needs.
  • Clarify how weather, airspace restrictions, site access, or delayed flights affect scan cadence and service levels.
  • Request a quote that spells out the basis for charges—project count, acreage, scan frequency, users, storage, exports, and service level. TraceAir does not publish standard pricing in the reviewed materials.

DroneDeploy’s current pricing page directs prospective buyers to request a custom quote. An alternate indexed pricing page displays monthly tiers, but its freshness is uncertain, so those figures should not be treated as current prices without confirmation from the vendor.

What the announcement does—and does not—show

The financing establishes investor backing for TraceAir’s expansion plans. It does not by itself establish revenue, valuation, retention, profitability, independent accuracy benchmarks, or measured customer savings. The round’s strategic question is whether TraceAir can make site data useful throughout the development process—from evaluating land through grading and lot delivery—rather than limiting its value to periodic progress documentation.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
