The Hatch Restore 2 was reported at $144 on Amazon on December 2, 2024, down from $169—a $25 saving, or about 15%. That was described as its lowest price at the time, not a current August 2026 deal. Hatch says it stopped making and selling the Restore 2 in May 2026, so any unit available now is leftover, third-party, refurbished, or used stock. Tom’s Guide’s 2024 deal report and Hatch’s discontinuation notice put the headline in context.
The Restore 2 is not a general Amazon Echo replacement. It is a dedicated sleep clock with a gradual sunrise light, sleep sounds and simple bedside controls. It may suit someone who wants a quieter wake-up routine; an Echo remains the more versatile choice for Alexa, timers, music and smart-home commands.
What the $144 deal meant
The reported price was $144 against a $169 reference price, a difference of $25 (about 14.8%). The “lowest price” claim belongs to that December 2024 promotion. Without a complete historical price record, it should be understood as the deal coverage’s claim for the price observed then—not a guarantee that $144 was the all-time low, and certainly not a current price.
Because Hatch discontinued the Restore 2 in May 2026 to make room for Restore 3, current availability and pricing depend on remaining inventory and individual sellers. Check the exact listing, seller, condition, return window and warranty before buying. Confirm that the box includes the power adapter, that the model and plug suit your region, and that the device can still be registered and paired with the Hatch app. Do not assume that a third-party or used unit carries Hatch’s current warranty or support terms.

What the Restore 2 does
The Restore 2 combines a dimmable clock display, bedside light, sleep sounds and a sunrise alarm. Its light gradually brightens before the alarm sound begins, and the physical Rest and Rise buttons let you start or interact with routines at the bedside. You set up and customize alarms in the Hatch Sleep app; after setup, the routine can be used without picking up your phone. “Phone-free” does not mean app-free ownership.
The alarm can combine a light and sound, with adjustable brightness, sunrise duration and volume. Hatch lists 13 free preloaded alarm sounds. A quick tap of Rise snoozes an active alarm for nine minutes; press and hold it to turn the alarm off. As with any sunrise clock, the light may make waking feel less abrupt for some people, but it is not a treatment for insomnia or a guaranteed fix for difficult mornings.

Choose the Restore 2 over an Echo only if the sunrise light and focused sleep routine are the point. Choose an Echo if you want broad voice-assistant and smart-home utility, or simply need a speaker and alarm. Echo features vary by model, and a setup using smart bulbs to imitate a sunrise is not the same as a dedicated alarm clock with built-in light.

No. Hatch says the Restore 2’s core functions do not require Hatch+: sunrise alarms, sleep sounds, light options, four curated Unwind combinations, some sunset options, a Rest reminder and basic Rise-button behavior are available without the subscription. Hatch’s current information lists Hatch+ at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year, with a 30-day trial associated with the device experience. Those are current stated terms, not the terms of the 2024 deal; subscription prices and trial offers can change. If all you want is a sunrise alarm and basic sounds, the subscription is optional.
How to set a sunrise alarm
- Connect the Restore 2 in the Hatch Sleep app.
- Open the Restore 2 home page and scroll to Sunrise Alarm.
- Tap Add Alarm.
- Choose a sunrise light and sound combination.
- Set the alarm time and select the days it should repeat.
- Adjust brightness, sunrise duration and volume.
- Tap Save.
For a one-time alarm, deselect all repeat days; Hatch says it will run once and then delete itself. The app’s alarm controls and behavior are detailed in Hatch’s Restore 2 alarm guide.

Should you buy a Restore 2 in 2026?
Consider a remaining Restore 2 only if you specifically want its sleep-clock features and find a new, returnable unit from a seller with clear warranty coverage at a meaningful discount. The historical $144 price is a useful reference point, not proof that today’s listing is a bargain. For used or refurbished stock, weigh the lower price against condition, return rights and the uncertainty of discontinued inventory.

If you want Alexa, music, reminders and smart-home controls, choose an Echo that fits those needs. If you want only a basic sunrise alarm without an app or connected-content ecosystem, a conventional sunrise clock may be simpler. The Restore 2’s strongest case is narrower: a dedicated light-and-sound wake-up routine with physical bedside controls.
