The best pressure washer depends on what you need to clean: a compact battery model can handle quick, small jobs, while heavily stained concrete may call for a more powerful gas washer. In The Spruce’s roundup, the Craftsman CMEPW1900VA is the best overall electric pick for routine homeowner work; it is not the strongest choice for stubborn stains.
The Spruce says it tested 34 pressure washers over several years, including plug-in electric, battery, and gas models. Its reported process included home testing on varied surfaces and long-term tests lasting at least six months. Which of the nine pressure washers fits your job?
Start with the surface, the amount of grime, and how large an area you have to clean. The awards identify different strengths rather than a single machine that is best for every job.

How much PSI and GPM do you need?
PSI (pounds per square inch) describes cleaning force; GPM (gallons per minute) describes how much water flows and how quickly loosened dirt can be rinsed away. The Spruce’s author, Jeremy Laukkonen, explains that PSI tells you how much power a washer has to knock off grime, while GPM indicates how quickly and efficiently it can wash away dislodged dirt.
The Spruce offers these broad selection ranges. They are general guidance from the review, not universal safety limits: the right setting also depends on the material, nozzle, distance, and soil.

More pressure is not automatically better. The review cautions that excessive force can damage delicate materials, while insufficient force may leave heavy grime behind. Choose for the surface and cleaning task, not the highest number on a product label.

Plug-in electric
For many routine home jobs, a plug-in electric model is easier to use, quieter, and lower-maintenance than a gas washer, according to The Spruce. It does require access to an outlet, which can limit reach or where you can work. The Craftsman, Westinghouse, DEWALT, Ryobi, Sun Joe, and Greenworks picks are electric options in this roundup.

Gas
Gas is the review’s recommendation for very large jobs or serious stains where greater cleaning power and water flow are useful. The Simpson Cleaning PowerShot is the gas pick here, but its 72.8-lb listed weight and less beginner-friendly setup are practical considerations.
Battery
Battery models trade runtime and power for mobility. The Spruce describes the Stihl REA 100 Plus as portable for smaller tasks, with about 30 minutes of runtime at its highest setting. The lighter-duty WORX Hydroshot is intended for small cleanup jobs, not embedded dirt. Check whether the specific package includes the battery and charger.

What to check before buying
- Surface and soil: Match pressure and flow to the material and grime. Be especially cautious with delicate surfaces; high pressure can cause damage.
- Reach and mobility: Compare hose length, cord access, unit weight, and whether you need to carry water. A bucket-capable model can help when a tap is unavailable, but portability does not make a low-power washer suitable for a large driveway.
- Controls and setup: Variable pressure can give more flexibility. Review the setup and hose connections if you want a simple start, particularly with a gas model.
- Included accessories: Check the exact package for nozzles, surface cleaner, soap tank, foam cannon, battery, and charger. Retailer bundles can vary, and accessories are not necessarily compatible across models.
- Storage: Consider where the washer and its hose, cord, and accessories will go. The Greenworks pick, for example, is described as effective but space-hungry.

The Spruce says its team tested 34 pressure washers over several years, covering plug-in electric, battery, and gas models. Its stated method included home use on different surfaces and evaluation of setup, operation, cleaning performance, design, noise, and value, with long-term testing lasting at least six months. For cleaning effectiveness, the review says it records the surfaces or objects cleaned, debris removed, nozzle used, job duration, and any damage observed. Those are The Spruce’s reported procedures and findings.
