Short answer: Suno’s Free Plan does not include commercial rights. If you want to use a Suno track in a monetized video, podcast, app, advertisement, client project, or release, check the licence for the paid plan you would use before publishing. The available product information lists paid plans from $8 per month, but it does not establish every permitted use, ownership rule, or clearance obligation.
What Suno’s Commercial-Use Information Establishes
Suno is a complete AI music workspace for generating songs with vocals, lyrics, instrumentation, and production. It also supports editing, remixing, extensions, section replacement, and stem export, with access through the web, iOS, and Android. Those capabilities make it practical for a creator building music for several devices or content formats, but the commercial permission depends on the plan terms rather than on the editing features themselves.

What “Commercial Use” Means For A Suno Project
Commercial use generally means putting the music into something that earns money, promotes a business, supports a client deliverable, or is distributed as a monetized release. Examples include a paid social campaign, a sponsored product video, a podcast with advertising, a game or app soundtrack, a commissioned smart-home demonstration, or a music release intended to generate royalties.

Before publishing, record the Suno plan, billing date, song version, and the licence wording shown at that time. Keep the downloaded file and any stems with that record. If the project changes from personal testing to paid distribution, reassess the licence before the change.
Rights You Still Need To Check
AI-Generated Material And Copyright
The U.S. Copyright Office says material generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable, prompts alone do not make someone the author, and protection may cover only the human-authored parts of a mixed work. If a registration includes more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, the applicant must disclose it and describe the human contribution. Treat a paid Suno licence as permission to use the output under its terms, not as a guarantee that every part of the recording receives exclusive copyright protection.

Voices And Artist Identity
Use lyrics and vocal directions that you have the right to use. Do not present a generated performance as an identifiable artist’s authorized performance unless you have that artist’s consent and the platform’s rules allow it. Spotify says vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it, and it supports AI disclosures in credits.
Covers, Uploads And Samples
If you upload audio, lyrics, or other source material for transformation, confirm that you control the necessary rights. Suno’s Free Plan lists an 8-minute audio-upload limit, but that technical limit says nothing about whether an uploaded recording is cleared for commercial transformation. Obtain permission for third-party recordings, compositions, voices, or samples before using them.

A Practical Suno Workflow For Commercial Projects
- Define the delivery. Write down where the track will appear, who owns the project, whether it will be monetized, and whether a client or platform requires an AI disclosure.
- Choose the plan before production. Do not build a commercial release around the Free Plan because its commercial rights are excluded. Check the paid plan’s current licence and download conditions.
- Prompt for the actual use case. For a smart-home walkthrough, specify a restrained instrumental bed, clear sections for setup, demonstration, and call to action, and a finish that leaves room for spoken instructions. For a product launch, specify the vocal style, lyric subject, instrumentation, and production energy you need, while avoiding a living artist’s name or an unlicensed lyric.
- Revise inside Suno. Use section replacement, extensions, remixing, or editing to make the arrangement fit the video or spoken track. Export stems when you need separate control of vocals, instruments, or timing in another editor.
- Keep a rights file. Save the prompt, lyrics, source uploads, plan details, licence text, export date, and final asset name. Note which parts you wrote or edited yourself.
- Check the destination platform. Confirm the platform’s current policy before release. YouTube requires disclosure of realistic altered or synthetic content that could be mistaken for a real person’s performance, while its inauthentic-content policy targets mass-produced, repetitive, or template-based uploads rather than AI use by itself.
How To Prompt Suno Without Creating Rights Problems
Instrumental Smart-Home Demonstration
“Create a 90-second instrumental track for a calm smart-home setup video: warm electronic pulse, light percussion, spacious midrange for narration, a gentle lift when the devices connect, and a clean ending for the final instruction.” This describes musical needs without asking for a named artist’s style or an unlicensed recording.
Vocal Product Explainer
“Create a concise electronic pop song about simple home automation, with original lyrics, a friendly non-identifiable vocal, two verses, a short chorus, and a clean instrumental outro for a spoken call to action.” Review every lyric and vocal result before publishing.

Revision Pass
After generating a draft, replace any section that competes with speech, extend the ending if the video runs longer, and export stems if your editor needs separate level control. Suno lists these editing and stem features, but the commercial licence for each resulting version still follows the applicable plan terms.
When To Pause Before Publishing
- The track was created on the Free Plan.
- You cannot find clear paid-plan wording for the intended use, territory, client transfer, or monetization method.
- The prompt or source material names an artist, uses someone else’s lyrics, or includes an uploaded recording you do not control.
- A platform requests AI disclosure or rejects repetitive, mass-produced uploads.
- You need exclusive copyright protection for the entire recording rather than permission to use it under a service licence.
Bottom-Line Decision
Suno can fit a commercial workflow when you select an appropriate paid plan, document your human contribution, clear every voice and source asset, and verify the destination platform’s disclosure rules. The Free Plan is suitable for personal exploration, but its lack of commercial rights makes it a poor starting point for a paid release.
