Verdict: The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal is a compelling choice for homes with lots of hard flooring and recurring sticky spills: its UV Stain Detect system can find certain residues and send the robot back for a targeted mopping pass. But it is not a universal stain detector, and its large dock, high water use, mixed carpet results and premium price make it a specialist buy. It makes the most sense at a substantial discount—not automatically at its $1,299.99 US list price.
What the UV feature actually does
Shark’s UV Stain Detect combines a UV light with a camera to identify certain residues on hard floors. The practical benefit is not simply that the robot shines a light on a mess: it can record a suspected spot and clean it again during a separate targeted pass.
- The robot makes its regular cleaning run.
- While mopping, it scans hard floors for residues that stand out to its detection system.
- It returns to the dock to refresh the mop pad.
- It goes back to the marked area for additional cleaning.
That sequence is useful, but it means the robot generally does not stop and scrub each suspected stain the moment it sees it. WIRED observed it return to a sticky area where orange juice had previously spilled; PCWorld/TechHive and Vacuum Wars also reported useful stain detection and extra cleaning passes. These are real-world observations, not proof that the system finds every kind of mess. UV response depends on the residue, its concentration, the floor and the detection system. Clear water, non-fluorescent grime, residue outside the robot’s path and contamination hidden under furniture may go undetected.

Think of UV Stain Detect as a way to prioritize certain spots, not a guarantee that every invisible contaminant will be found. It is also not a substitute for promptly wiping up a large spill, pet waste, corrosive liquid or anything that could damage flooring or the robot.
How well does it clean?
Hard floors and dried-on residue
This is where the UV Reveal’s premium features are most relevant. Its broad mop pad agitates the floor rather than simply trailing behind the robot. PCWorld/TechHive reports that the pad scrubs at about 100 times per minute. Shark advertises “7× the scrubbing power” against its stated comparison basis; that is a manufacturer claim, not a universal independent measurement.
Independent reviews describe it loosening or revisiting dried food film and sticky spots. That does not mean every dried deposit will come up: old grime, grease, wax-like material and residue that needs a suitable cleaner or sustained hand scrubbing can still require manual work. Check the relevant regional owner’s guide and your flooring maker’s instructions before mopping. Do not assume mop mode is appropriate for unsealed wood, delicate stone, waxed floors or damaged surfaces.
Vacuum Wars reported a 183 score in its dried-stain testing. That figure belongs to that review’s own test and scoring system; it is not a laboratory-standard cleaning percentage and should not be read as “183% clean” or as a result every household can expect.

Carpets, rugs and pet hair
The robot can vacuum carpets and rugs, and Shark lists a mop-lifting function for transitions to carpet. That makes mixed flooring possible, but the machine’s main value is its hard-floor mopping system—not best-in-class carpet cleaning.
Vacuum Wars measured an 88% carpet deep-clean score in its testing framework and reported above-average pet-hair pickup, alongside roughly average suction and airflow. WIRED found it effective on a rug, but noted that pet-hair performance could be better. Vacuum Wars also reported about 29% hair wrap in its anti-tangle testing, a test-specific result rather than a prediction for every home. If your home is mostly carpet or pet hair is your main concern, compare vacuum-focused alternatives before paying extra for UV mopping.

Long-pile rugs, fringe, loose edges and unusual textures can still cause problems for robot vacuums. The ability to lift the mop does not mean every rug is safe from dampness or entanglement.
Edges, obstacles and navigation
The robot uses spinning LiDAR, a camera, lighting and other sensors for navigation and object detection. Vacuum Wars reported that it avoided 20 of 24 objects in its obstacle test—a strong result for that review, but not a promise that it will avoid every cable, sock, toy or pet accident in a lived-in room. Clear loose cords, sharp items and small hazards before a run.

There are practical layout limits. Vacuum Wars found weak threshold climbing at around 25 mm. The robot is approximately 4.1 inches tall, so it may not fit under low sofas or cabinets. WIRED reported that it stored only one map in its review, which meant deleting and remapping when moving between floors; check current app and firmware behavior if multi-floor mapping matters to you.
The dock: less routine work, not no maintenance
The NeverTouch Pro Base empties the robot’s debris, refills its water, washes the mop pad and dries it. Its bagless debris system avoids disposable dust bags, but you still need to empty and clean the debris container. Shark advertises up to 60 days of hands-free capacity; actual time depends on household size, pets, debris and cleaning frequency.

The dock is substantial: Shark lists dimensions of 18.15 × 14.3 × 17.5 inches. Reserve a permanent position with room for the robot to approach and enough access to remove the tanks and debris. A compact apartment or tight hallway may not have a convenient spot.
PCWorld/TechHive reports a 2.74-liter clean-water tank, 1.18-liter dirty-water tank and 0.21-liter water capacity in the robot. These are review-reported figures; check the documentation for your regional model. Shark says the base washes the mop pad with water heated to 185°F and dries it with 175°F air. Any sanitization claim should be understood as applying to the mop pad under the company’s stated controlled conditions and instructions—not to the floor, room or entire robot.

There is a cost to that wash-and-dry convenience. Vacuum Wars reported unusually high water use—up to about five times its test average—and drying times over 30 minutes. More automation can mean more tank handling and wastewater, not less. Expect to inspect and clean the wash tray, remove hair or debris, maintain filters and periodically clean the robot. “NeverTouch” describes reduced routine intervention, not a maintenance-free appliance.

Setup follows the usual robot-vacuum pattern: install SharkClean, connect the robot to Wi-Fi, name it, run an initial mapping pass, then choose vacuuming, mopping or combined cleaning and select the areas to clean. Reviewers describe room and multi-room selection. App labels and capabilities can change, so confirm current controls before buying if a particular mapping or scheduling feature is essential.
For US buyers, the black model is RV3020XE and the white model is RV3030XE; Luxe Collection variants use other model numbers. The UK version has been identified as RV3000XEUK, but US price, dimensions, accessories, warranty and app behavior should not be assumed to apply to it. Shark announced the product on March 3, 2026.
The US regular price is $1,299.99. Shark’s US site showed prices around $849.99–$899.99 during the research window; sale prices change, so check the current listing for the exact model. At that discounted range, the UV system and dock are easier to justify for the right hard-floor household. At full price, compare based on your priorities rather than buying for the UV light alone.
Who should buy the Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal?
- Consider it if most of your floors are hard, sticky kitchen residue or dried food is a recurring problem, and you value automatic pad washing, drying and refilling.
- Consider it at a discount if you have children or pets and want the robot to revisit certain detected spots, while accepting that detection is not guaranteed.
- Look elsewhere if your home is mostly carpet or maximum pet-hair pickup is the priority. The mopping and UV premium may be poorly allocated for your needs.
- Look elsewhere or measure carefully if you need dependable multi-floor maps, have raised thresholds, low furniture or little room for a large dock.
- Skip it if you expect a truly maintenance-free robot or already have a strong robot mop and rarely deal with dried or sticky residue.
Alternatives by priority
- Want Shark dock automation without UV? The PowerDetect ThermaCharged (RV2920XE) and PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro (RV2820ZE) are lower-cost directions to investigate; they do not have the UV Reveal differentiator. Prices and included features vary by model and promotion.
- Want balanced vacuuming and mopping? Roborock’s Qrevo range is a credible alternative cited for strong general-purpose performance, though it does not specialize in UV-assisted stain discovery.
- Need help with thresholds or complex layouts? Roborock Saros models and some premium Dreame models are alternatives highlighted for navigation and climbing. Check the exact model’s capabilities and price.
- Put mopping first? Narwal Flow 2 and premium Dreame models use different floor-washing approaches and may suit buyers who prioritize mopping over UV detection. Compare maintenance, floor compatibility and current model specifications before choosing.
Pre-purchase fit check
- Measure clearance under sofas, beds and cabinets against the robot’s roughly 4.1-inch height.
- Measure raised thresholds; testing found difficulty around 25 mm.
- Confirm whether your home’s floors are on one level and whether the current app supports the maps you need.
- Measure the dock location, including space to approach and remove tanks.
- Check your flooring manufacturer’s guidance and the owner’s manual for your regional model before using mop mode.
- Decide whether you are comfortable emptying dirty water and periodically cleaning the dock and robot.
Sources and specifications
Product features, dimensions, battery-life claim and warranty terms vary by model and region; verify them on the US RV3020XE product page or the applicable local listing. Shark specifies up to 180 minutes of battery life and a two-year warranty for the product and listed parts on its US page.
